Lets see some Div 3 related comments here. While the division may not offer some of the highest level ball it does showcase some scattered talent and has proven in the past a launching pad for some of this states elite. Some of the VBA's most interesting characters grace the diamond each week in Divvy 3 and it does also boast some great rivalries among it's teams.
Will Williamstown have a premiership hangover? Will Richo achieve 200 strikeouts? Will the Elephant & Wheelbarrow be packed after a St.Kilda match? Will Footscray win a game?
Feel free to post your Div 3 news here........

They are a stronger club now than Ormond are. - Richo's arm is sore... be interesting to see how much he throws this year. - Is anything packed after a St Kilda match? Oh sorry.. we're talking baseball. - Do footscray still have that pitcher who smiles all the time?

Agreed! Willi should definitely be in Div 2, a very well balanced side. They seem to execute all the 1 %ers better than most.
Richo at only 80% would be enough to challenge a majority of the hitters he would face.
Can't think of a reason any Footscray pitchers have had to smile about lately.

Ahhhhhhh, Divvy 3.......Interesting isnt it...to see that willy beat the best team for the last 4 years in divvy 3 and didnt get anything to show for it.......Yet ormond and Werribee are still up there..I agree with junior criteria, but when a team only wins 3 games with the numbers they have, surely someone has to look and say, are they good enough to compete in Divvy 2. Preston should be better this year, S'vale still to dominate. Willy may not be as strong but the whisper is that they are playing more youth than ever to get game time for new competition changes next year.......Port to struggle still but should be there abouts..St Kilda... ??Berwick are the unknown quantity i think

Going to be a keenly contested top 4 thats for certain.
I expect Berwick to continue the improvements made over the last 2 seasons, especially at home.

They will be starting 0-1 if they are playing Port first week.

Richo at 80% might be better than at 100%! Why? Control issues at 100% may be tempered by the fact that if the arm is a bit sore, he'll be more focused on hitting the zone, getting ahead of hitters early and then relying on the occasional fireball to put them away. Don't think he'll get 200 if he's not 100% healthy. For one, he may end up throwing less. Second, he'll then be relying on the defense for outs a bit more.
I agree, Willy shold be up in Divi 2. Shame they don't have the youth numbers, but that's because most of their youth is playing in their 1's now!
Preston WILL be better this year and expect to be in the final four at the very least!
Anyone know when the schedule for this season is due to be released? I'm guessing.....October 4th?

I'd be very interested to know who the in's and out's are in Div 3. Generally it will be the out's being players who have really shown a bit elevating themselves to a higher div and the in's being players who are looking to service a div 3 club in their twilight years.
The hard thing for Div 3 clubs is junior development. Tremendously hard to blood your own future prospects from there. Basically it's a long way back from Div 3. Particularly for the likes of Willi, Preston & Port. All clubs that have had a taste of higher Div's but due to junior numbers have to stay put.

What sort of contest do you think it would make if Div 2 All Stars Played Div 3 All Stars? I suspect the game would be played closer than a few people might think?

Great question sonuthascray...I think you are right in your assumption there. I have a friend who plays ball in a 'men's league' in the States very similar to our league here, except of course on a larger scale. The league has an All-Star game about midway through the season and it's a big hit in the league. Would be great if we did something similar here!

But does this league also have a National Championship going on mid-way through the season like we do?
The All-Star game would be made up of guys not playing Claxton Shield - then it really wouldnt be an All-Star game would it??
I'm not trying to bring it down, I would love to see it as well, but unfortunately, playing club ball and Claxton Shield is a big work load, esp for pitchers and catchers.

Yeah very true, and there in lies the major reason why there are no All-Star contests. Claxton Sheild is the showcase and as such contains the states finest players.
The question I was trying to raise initially is how would Div3's Top 9 players plus pitching staff fare against those of Div 2.

I think divvy 2 pitching would dominate over divvy 3.......other wise, it would be a close contest

Yeah Pitching stocks is where it would be won I agree, and Div 2 deffinitely have more depth in the Bullpen.

Div 1 vs Div 2??

I have to say it would be even more closely fought, with Div 1 marginally outclassing their lower opponents. You just never know what would happen 'team wise' if you put your 9 best on the feild at once. I have seen plenty of dream teams self destruct on Queens birthday weekends over the years.

Div 1 clearly. Better pitching depth, (only one clacko pitcher in div 2 that I know of?) and hitters that are more used to regularly seeing quality pitching.

Chins/Cam, Some of the teams that went down to Div 2 this year had better pitching staffs than the teams that won it.
I think a Div 1 all star team v a Div 2 all star team would be a great tussle.
From memory the Aces had a nice mix of Div 1 and Div 2 players (last years teams). RJ, Dewar, Rutgers, Blackmore etc I know these blokes will be in Div 1 clubs this year. But they weren't last year and Div 2 will still have atleast a Div 1 worthy all star 9 players.

Div 1 worthy is very different to div 1 best though snackdog. Agree with your point about last year's clacko team, my prior point was based on this coming seasons allocations.
I'd have to say there seems to be more talent going up than coming down based on Vic Aces jerseys.

Certainly. But the only guys that went up from finishing top 2 last year were RJ & Blackmore. No one else. Rutgers will go up because he is jumping ship from Mulgrave.
Guys going down to Div 2 are Cassidy, Harman, Blackely x 2, Gourlay, Ellis. Albeit some of these wont be wearing the same uni's come first game as they were last year. They are 4 of Vic's best pitchers though & Oz's number 1 SS.....respect where respect is due.

it would have to be like mikes top 50. a "pre-season" team based on expectations for the coming season.
