Lets also not forget that it wasnt that long ago that Blackburn were in Div 3 and Williamstown were in Div 1. Someone might be abe to confirm this for me, but I think I remember Blackburn Playing Williamstown in a game where both teams scored 40+ runs. Late 90's I think when both teams where in divy 2.

Blacky scored 52 - Willy I think was 10 or 11. The score sheet is framed in the clubhouse.

Loooong time ago I played for Williamstown - 1997 or 98 I think. I didnt play that many games. We had myself, Ben Risenger, Mark Respondek, Jimmy Waddel, Clayton Byrne, Jay Willis - wasnt a bad team to be honest.

Hey Chardy,
Will you be playing at St. Kilda this year or was that just a bit of 'fun talk' on the mill? Sounds and looks like you're pretty entrenched at Blacky.

i forgot my father always told me dont get into arguements with drunks and idiots, looks like i have found 2 on one blog Now that I'm sober, I stand by my previous comments, but I reckon there still might be at least 2 drunk people on this at any one time. Stick to the point and tell me that I'm wrong, "hakuna mutada" to all the Lion King fans out there.

chardy - what players were on both teams on the scoresheet. i recall this game and willamstown were from memory a fairly competitive side. who had the home runs for blacky that day. think blackburn broke the vba record for runs scored by a team that year. think blackburn might of had dicker, johnno, hubbard, hubble?, burton? cavagnah, darren white

It was also tin bat days. I heard at the time that one of the Willy players hit a bomb and started popping off as they ran the bases, despite being 40 odd runs down at that point. Not sure how true it is but I'm pretty sure that rumour did the rounds at the time.

there was abit of anger in the game, apparantly blackburn didn't let up all day - kept stealing etc. even if it was in the tin bat days - i dont think there would of been to many teams at that level to of scored 50 runs in a game, so credit were its due

Didn't mean to take anything away from the feat. Tin or wood, 50 runs in 7 innings is a massive feat. If johnno was playing, he probably wasn't swinging anything anyway. Just looking at the ball real mean and it hit itself out of the park so it wouldn't get hurt.

HA HA HA - Johno hasnt posted for a while, must be getting his back piece finished!!
PS - tin bats are cheating - period. Having said that, i've never seen a team score that many runs, I think 30 is the most i've heard of.

I remember stories of that Willy/Blacky game. Not one stolen base just hits! So there was no aggro until that guy popped off all the way around the diamond after a homer in the last. The umpire nearly took a swing at him. Their coach was James Waddell clipped him over the ears when he got back to the dugout. Willy scored 7 in the 7th to make it 51/10. Ian Hubble went 7 for 7 (10 PA- 3BB) with 2 HRs and David Tierney got 7 hits as well. Burton didn't play as his daughter was born on the morning of the game.

Chardy, One of your old teams ACT - beat New Zealand a couple of years back 53 - 0 in the first game of the tournament.( and with wood)NZ were a team of kids and nearly went home straight after the game. Wardy coached, and though they were all hits he didn't back off either. Then they wondered why they got jeered through the rest of the tournament.

I heard about that... What do you do in a situation like that? Stop stealing is one, not advancing on pass balls might be another - but do you ask players not to swing the stick? Do you tell a player in the middle of the tournament to not take every AB as one where you want to get a hit?

A couple of guys went 7 for. Do they need that may at bats against ordinary pitching? Every other team used the opportunity to give their pitchers and fringe players a few cuts.

chardy you talk so much dribble, now you are canning the bottom 4 in division 1 and div 2 and div 3 teams, the reality is that if clubs like yours doncaster melbourne malvern and a few others would stop poaching players from other clubs then they would be competitive against the better teams. clubs like preston develop talent for clubs to steal their players, you guys have probably 2 home grown players on your team START DEVELOPING YOUR OWN PLAYERS INSTEAD OF STEALING OTHERS, my club would be in Div 1 if its players werent poached. i cant believe your comment about having 10 teams when you guys and malvern have no home grown players, you guys should be in Div 2 for not developing your own, you guys are disgraceful I love your passion skyhigh but seriously, stop for a second. A club of fee paying players is a fragile thing. People come and go for work, family and becaue they want to play somewhere else. This might be for friends, money or maybe because they feel they'll be happy somewhere else. The point is you should be doing everything you can to make sure your club has a seniors culture that people want to be a part of when they come through. It's a sport of ameaturs and when people move clubs it's because the WANT to. I mean if someone came and asked you to leave would you? No. I wouldn't because I'm happy but some people feel they'll be happier elsewhere and they move on. The point I'm getting to is I'd be taking a good look at your club and starting asking the question "Why do people leave?" Rather than pointing the finger at Blackburn, Malvern and Doncaster for having a club culture that people want to be a part of.

It is interesting to note that one of these clubs that has taken players from everywhere to keep it up is now NOT allowing anyone to leave. I thought the one year no clearance rule was to protect a clubs young players from poaching. It seems to me if you invite them in they should also be free to go as well. A club can get a bad reputation if it behaves this way.

Think about a just relegated Div 1 club which has no home grown players in its firsts

I tend to agree with SkyHigh, with one caveat - I think it is fine for clubs to actively top up their lists with players from other clubs WHO ARE NOT GETTING OPPORTUNITIES and to fill EXISTING GAPS in their club. HOWEVER, I hate clubs poaching other players when they have capable players coming through their own system who then get shafted.
I also hate clubs that don't have their own junior and development programs in place using other struggling clubs as their own farm system (*cough* Heathmont, *cough* Blackburn).
