clubs are going to do whatever they can to win premierships. unfortunate but no use complaining about it.
baseball in vic in now in a situation we're there's talk of reducing 3 divisions to 2 and losing 2 clubs. reality is there are not enough juniors currently playing to top up the current amount of senior sides (about 100).
what needs to change is for BV to encourage clubs to promote their own junior programs - and provide them with the adequate support to do so.
unless that happens the new structure will probably lead to more player movement as the path for clubs to reach div1 is shortened and the proportion of contenders in any given season is reduced.

I tend to agree with SkyHigh, with one caveat - I think it is fine for clubs to actively top up their lists with players from other clubs WHO ARE NOT GETTING OPPORTUNITIES and to fill EXISTING GAPS in their club. HOWEVER, I hate clubs poaching other players when they have capable players coming through their own system who then get shafted. I also hate clubs that don't have their own junior and development programs in place using other struggling clubs as their own farm system (*cough* Heathmont, *cough* Blackburn). I am confused ? Isn't one a winter club and one a summer club? Aren't winter and summer clubs better off to work together to get kids to play and keep them playing?

yeah, i heard that certain Division 1-turned Division 2 club had given 1 or 2 clearances this off-season... but told all the younger players they weren't going anywhere... if so, seems pretty bogus... and is it true that next summer will go from 3 Divisions to just 2? I have heard a few different things, would love a definitive answer (is that even possible here?!?)

The only clearance I have heard of is for a retired player to go to Essendon as an assistant coach. Young and old players have been told they are going nowhere. There is no decision made as yet on the make up of any Divisions beyond this season. It is all under review now by the Pennant Committee. Hope they get it right.

ok. id heard rumors of 1 or 2 clearances from last years team, but they were only rumors that i'd heard, i dont have any fact to support it.
yeah ive heard that at the Pennant Committee meeting, the idea was voted against to bring it to just 2 Divisions... ive heard a few along those lines, n a few saying it will happen next year...

here we go again Chardy with your BORING comment, just goes to show you have no interest in the deveklopment of baseball in victoria, you sound like one of these guys who go out and plays and puts nothing back into the game, why dont you go down to your club and help the juniors and develop them, you keep telling everyone who listens how good you are get down and coach the juniors maybe you can develop some of your own instead of stealing others. your club really needed Booth, moylan, wilson, hogan etc ever heard of kill and eat your own. you are so lost
i bet when your club goes down you will be off to the next club. you are soooo loyal

sorry, boring is getting a little... well boring isnt it.
try this one - *yawn*
PS - how about we talk about Div 3 in this thread and leave the Blackburn bashing in another thread.
How many times do you need to be told that guys like myself, Moylan and Booth came from Malvern???

As a Div 3 player, I know what it is like to call the bigger clubs "poachers" etc. But realistically, the standard of baseball in Division 3 is poor, and for guys like myself trying to develop its tough to keep going back to play that standard week in & week out knowing that you could perhaps perform at a higher level.... its not necessarily Div 1 clubs poaching, its guys that want to go and test themselves at higher levels that wish to move clubs... not that im entirely defending the way it happens, but its a circle thats been going for ages, and probably will continue...

itsasecret, this is my piont, i dont want to sound nasty here but you are part of the reason your club is down in 3rd division, what i mean by that is that you are a small part of getting them there by not winning, my answer to you and others is get better, dvelop within work harder as a club, build from the bottom up and you will be a force in no time, it needs team work from everyone in your club.
simple minded people like chardy wouldnt understand that

Yes, i can see where you're coming from. But then, you should also see that it is not right for clubs to put the responsibility of bringing a club up from Division 3 solely on the shoulders on young kids. When a club is in its glory days, it should do all it can to prolong the future of its club by maintaining its Juniors program and blooding them into Seniors so that they dont go down divisions.... instead of waiting til everyone has left, and then deciding its time to start rebuilding....
fair enough point?

simple minded people like chardy wouldnt understand that I'm simple minded because I don't agree with your opinion?? I'm just tired of reading the same things over and over from a select few about how we don't develop juniors and so on. First of all, I have no idea what club YOU are from so I can't tell YOU what YOU are doing wrong.
