Seems a good time to get this going with clubs AGMs probably happening around this time.
We had our Preston AGM tonight and there were 30-40 people and the good thing (sort of) was that most were not players, and many that were there have now openly and enthusiastically gone on Junior and Senior Committees etc. And the same group/committee members that did such a good job last year have also decided to stay on in those important roles, so a good solid start to the Pirates venture back into Div 1 I'd say.
Some interesting dialogue also about a range of baseball related issues/matters from the ABL and Insurance, to ground conditions, designated First Aid-ers where possible at Junior games (ideally) and a new website soon and improved match reporting throughout the grades.
Congrats to Alex, Stu and all the new and old 'Pirate crew' as it was a very interesting and encouraging night in terms of Preston putting its best foot forward in Div 1 this season. :-)

Seems like a new sheriff has arrived in town via BV to shake up the way umpiring is to be done, delegating jobs, shaking up the old guard, remember a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Don't know that any changes will be as drastic as you suggest, baseump.
As a result of nominations and voting by authorised BUAV members, Ian McKenzie becomes the new Director of Umpiring and Phil Box his Assistant.
I believe that BV has ratified the results and has wished both men well whilst again expressing its appreciation of Mark Gooding's outstanding contribution.

The Rebels have been busy this winter, big big news: Mulgrave Rebels BC Senior Club Coach has been announced as Ash Winton. Ash was the 07/08 Rebels Club Champion, Division 2 batting and home run award winner. Mulgrave have also secured the services of US import Dan Rogers. mulgrave.baseball.com.au/?ID=77682 Big year ahead for the Rebels.

Speaking of coaching appointments, Richo, is Bonbeach close to one? Who's the man most likely to get the nod?

Can he throw 180 pitches but? Those 180 pitch outtings obviously served markus well. He currently has an era of 0.71 in his first season of professional baseball at the rookie ball level for the twins.

I think the mighty 122 year old fitzroy lions announced their club coach for upcoming season last night at the AGM. I'm sure a press release will be out soon.
Exciting times for one of the leagues oldest and most successful clubs.

It's the end of July and a number of clubs have already started their pre-season for 2011/12.
It might be an opportune time to assess where we are at with coaching appointments and player movements.
Below is what we seem to know about coaching appointments. Any additions, to coaches and/or player movements (facts, that is, not rumours - which can go to the appropriate thread)?
DIVISION ONE:
Waverley: Phil Dale Geelong: Nathan Holmes Essendon: Peter Giles Blackburn: Dominick Ruggiero Cheltenham: Hayden Dingle Upwey: Brad Harman Doncaster: Michael Daykin Fitzroy: Matt Kemp Malvern: Adam Burton Werribee: Earl Byrne Melbourne: Matt Kent Preston: Stuart Medland
DIVISION TWO (club list has not been finalised by BV, with the status of Waverley and Footscray not yet clear):
Sandringham: Daniel McGrath Newport: Grant Weir Springvale: Mulgrave: Ash Winton Moorabbin: St Kilda: Bonbeach: Mark Jones Sunshine: Berwick: Mick Poole Williamstown: Ormond/Glenhuntly: Footscray: Waverley: Port Melbourne:

There's a fair 'All Star' line up of former players in the Div One ranks. Wouldn't mind them on my Div one line up: Phil pitching to Matt Kent, Dingle, Burton, Medland, Harman, Daykin, Ruggiero, Holmes. Byrne (R)

Does anyone know of the clubs, if any, who may have applied for the D2 spot. Applications closed yesterday with BV.

Interesting interview. Well done, guys.
I look forward to Baseball Victoria having the same positive media relationship with Fitzroy that it has enjoyed over the past few seasons.
Matt will again be a terrific asset to a grand old baseball club.

If Port Melbourne's new webpage is correct, then Shane Caulfield is back at the helm.
