Frita I am pretty sure some genius suggested the same thing a couple of years ago and was howled down, and as far as BV reading the forum goes I can tell you this.
A former BV development officer in her first month on the job thinking she was doing the right thing posted some info on an up and coming junior development day and and was promptly given her first official warning.

Posted in 2009. One other big problem for clubs (especially juniors) is the Christmas break. Kids that seemed keen prior to the break disappear when the games are to resume. Even senior sides suffer from the month break and then half a dozen games to the season's end. Perhaps the seasons could be realigned with the "winter" season running from Feb to July and the "summer" running from August to Dec. Most Minor Leagues finish at the start of Sep so the pros would be able to play for their Clubs if they wanted too. The Claxton Shield might even benefit from no Club games in January and Clubs playing in the extreme weather of Jan -early Feb could be avoided. Crowd not much better if at all....had a bigger crowd at the first game at Preston between Ess v Melb and a bigger crowd there as well for the masters finals. Surprisingly very poor turnout for the first div 2 final between sandy v Mul. Let me ask why you would not have been there with the team and watch the final as a group. Everyone talks about supporting the game but not all step up. pirates, considering all our players paid fees to particpate this season, their commitment to participating in a 33-game Summer League, their assistance in umpiring junior games, assistance in running our canteen, and volunteer support while hosting two National Championships, I think our players stepped up in support of baseball this year. We took the opportunity to spend some time together socially... one of the top reasons our players pay money to be a part of our club is to spend time with their mates, not because they have some altruistic need to support baseball... Their season was finished, they wanted a low key event to spend some time together, they didn't want to watch baseball (they watched Miss Universe contestants compete in Minute To Win It!).

Im all for thinking outside the box as to the way Summer and Winter seasons co-exist with the Aces and Junior and Regional championships and school holidays and the hottest and coldest/wetter months of the year etc etc etc.
Im not saying there is a better way but when this Fourm goes quiet (from now on usually) maybe its worth another look in a new thread ?
While we are at it maybe some thought can be put into how the Masters season (including Masters specific rules, ages, and ground allocations etc) might look next Summer too !

In mentioning attendances I was certainly not being critical of any person for not spectating at Grand Finals... In the end, people have to want to be there. Sorry KC, didn't mean to infer that you did... I was being a little proactive in anticipation someone might want to use my comments to support the arguement the schedule is too much and we should play less. farnt, TJ, pirates, authentic, theolderiget I agree with you all... as a manager, it's a constant balancing act between asking your players to commit and not burning them out (and has been since we began playing 27 games)... it's important players can spend time with their families, friends, or whatever other priorities they have. pirates, I completely agree it's time to look at a restructure of our competitions... I think your idea is a strong concept, and imporantly identifies the length of season as a major concern, not number of games as the problem... Our pre-season started in August last year, eight months!!!! frita, I'm not sold this is all BV's or ABF's fault... I think we (the clubs) should take some responsibility for changes not occuring... until we unify ourselves and present a consistent message to our administration, there will never be the big, dynamic changes we're talking about.

theolderiget, I apoligize for repeating old ideas! aueagle30, I am not saying 'everything' is BV or ABF's fault and I do agree that clubs should take some responsibility for change but there is no doubt that BV and ABF 'should' also take some resposibility for the poor state of baseball at state level. I have no intention of getting into a debate about this but I will pose a simple question of, in your time coaching Geelong (i think you've mentioned about 10 years) give me the most positive changes in baseball at state level in that time? You mention consistency 'from' clubs to BV/ABF, this I agree! What about the other way? SO you get together with your tough team of 'grown men' and watched Miss Universe contestants compete in Minute To Win It!. I can't believe that dumpy Miss New York won!...........sorry anyway might you have tuned in (playing in the background) to a USTREAM coverage of the finals series or is that still to complicated to arrange?

... in your time coaching Geelong (i think you've mentioned about 10 years) give me the most positive changes in baseball at state level in that time? frita, I didn't intend to suggest you were laying the entire blame on BV, just highlighting the clubs' role in creating and correcting problems... positive changes include the increase of games, increase of Saturday fixtures... and now I'm stretching... pitchers using metal cleats at Altona during the playoffs... and now I'm done. There have been other periods of positive developments, but unfortunately they haven't proven sustainable (Regional Development Managers, Manager's Meetings... stretching again) I know what you're saying... major changes don't come easy... perhaps they shouldn't?? SO you get together with your tough team of 'grown men' and watched Miss Universe contestants compete in Minute To Win It!... anyway might you have tuned in (playing in the background) to a USTREAM coverage of the finals series or is that still to complicated to arrange? We searched for the live coverage of the game but weren't able to find it... was it promoted prior to the weekend? was the link to it on the Summer League web site? Unfortunately the best we had was following the score updates on the Essendon BC twitter feed.

Sorry Nate, I didn't explain myself properly, My point was that Ustream did not happen! I am by no means having a go at you here and I understand what you mean by "stretching things" but don't you find it frustrating that these are the only examples of change we have? Just think about yourself and some of your club people and the length of time you've devoted to the sport and this is all we have? Increase of games is by no means set in stone and could change at any moment! Metal cleats just this season for a handful of games? (Altona must be about 25 years old now and rumoured to be used for soccer??) Is that true? You and your club (along with others) have been very proactive in the Saturday games issue which came around with clubs ignoring BV and just doing it regardless of what was said! I wish clubs would be more pro-active in the changing/running of the game but after years of being beaten down clubs have decided it's not worth it! This forum is still a thorn in the side of "the establishment" and will continue to critisize "the establishment" and the best they can do is deny reading it!

Out of interest (just throwing it out there), would there be an interest in viewing a Ustream broadcast once a fortnight of a midweek game from either Altona or Preston?
As a whole we didn't UStream a thing this year, while Brisbane did all their home Bandits games and Grand Finals.
If we had a once a fortnight affair with a single game starting at 7 or 7.30, would anyone seriously be interested in viewing baseball in Melbourne?

I would Stu. Missus has made me retire from summer. Missed it big time this year. I was that desperate I watched some of the Brisbane finals. I dont have Foxtel so dont get the MLB and I dont no if one will do it again this year so come next summer I would love to watch local ball along with the Aces
