What needs to happen for the Aces to be competitive next season? I'm not the smartest person, but I would say they need to win more games.

What needs to happen for the Aces to be competitive next season? They need to find players that can bat and players who can pitch.

It's tough, but it's gotta be done.
It wouldn't be that bad if the side was all home grown talent, but half of them aren't and worries most people is that the imports don't do enough to warrant being infront of the home grown player. There seems to be a lot of hoopla at the start of the season, but that dies away pretty quickly as mediocrity settles in and seems to be accepted as a matter of fact

I'm pretty confident that Justin Huber's role with them from here on forward will surely see an improved squad and effort and of course outcome.

Did the Tommy Thompson experiment work? Will he be back? If not who should they go with?

Odds at the moment appear to favour a high-profile ticket involving two former Victorians - one (now living in Queensland) as Manager, with an Assistant relocating from the west.
If it comes to fruition, this would be an exciting development for a club that has to improve dramatically in 2015/16 for the ABL to gain momentum in our second most populous state.

Fantastic news to hear that Wardy will be moving back from QLD. About time he hooked up with his old mate from Sunshine....

When a business had passed it's used by date,The old saying was "On the way out, turn off the lights and close the door". Somebody only remembered Part 2 0f the saying.

The other saying is " the lights are on but nobody is home", which has been the case for the last few years in Aces land.

After talking to a certain big man of the game. My money is now on Wardy to manage the Aces and Lloydy to be part of coaching panel.

Heard a whisper that maybe the aces might be looking for a new naming rights sponsor after burning bridges with Jet. From what I've been told, it's the fact that they've asked for a lot more coin to top in, yet have informed the couriers of choice across the baseball community, that they can't have their game day facities exclusively. If that is try then that will leave a gaping hole in the aces budget going forward, knowing the money the Shaun and Brett have put in over the years. Why bite the hand that feeds? Stoopid Stoopid stoppid!

Wouldnt want to tarnish a good water cooler topic with too much truth but before everyone that reads the thread starts to believe the previous post, let it be known that whilst there may be some facts there regarding the use of the sponsors corporate box, the attempt to reclaim the space or perhaps make it a shared zone was not something that came from the Aces. Think you might find a certain group that control a certain facility may have something to do with it. The Aces don't own the facility therefor don't call the shots. I too hope it all gets sorted as I certainly have seen and appreciated all the work Brett and the boys have done in and around the stadium along with the general support over the last 5 years. They would be a huge loss to not only the Aces but the carry on effect to baseball in Victoria might be larger than we or a certain group may realise. Perhaps some due diligence before bold claims, stoopid stoopid stoopid.

Driving past Altona last night, the lights were on and curiosity got the better of me. Stopped in and there was a game going on between the mighty Stingers and what looks like to be a young Aces squad. Game was being officiated by league umpires and looked to be very competitive. No scoreboard so not sure what score was but was a good level of baseball. No idea if this is a league thing or even an official thing. Bar was not open......d**n

Well everybody, John Deeble was going to be appointed as Melbourne Aces new manager and John wanted to be appointed but due to the most incompetent organization in Australia and the sporting world ASADA, this will not happen.
ASADA has interviewed John regarding the Essendon FC drug saga. Yep that is not a joke. Because of this John has decided to do nothing for the next two years just in case. As ASADA are trying to find a scape goat and they don't seem to care who gets caught up in it. they are doing there best to undermined the integrity of all Australian sport.
when will this joke of an organization that WADA has even criticized for being incompetent, take responsibility for dragging the investigation out and turning it into a circus.
ASADA are completely incompetent and you can thank them for now effing up baseball.

Gez we need to be careful with this stuff as we are talking about people's careers.
I think we need a little perspective around this and we need to address only what is known.
Firstly, Jon has not been 'implicated' in anything to do with the Essendon scandal. Stephen Dank was facing a series of charges relating to distribution of peptides illegal for athletes to take. He was found guilty of distributing these to Jon (matter of public record).
It is CRITICAL to note that it was not illegal for Jon (or Hird, Goodwin, Hobson et al) to take these products for their own use as coaches/staff. Hence no charges against them, and none forthcoming.
Correct me if I am wrong, but ASADA indicated they are not pursuing anyone else relevant to the Stephen Dank case. As such, pending the WADA appeal, this matter is closed.
As such, there is no legal or moral reason why Jon cannot hold a position in baseball. ASADA are not an organisation that can vet employment terms and conditions. Think of them like the tax department; you have either complied or you have not. Based on this information in the public domain, he has complied. ASADA interviewed hundreds of people in this process, and naturally if there was an association with Jon, he would be interviewed. I'm not understanding how he is a scape goat.
Any coaching position with the Aces is up to Jon, the Aces and the ABL.
Any coaching duties with the Australian team if his contract has expired is between Jon and BA.
I don't think anyone could consider ASADA's handling of the Essendon scandal to be anything remotely close to a well handled investigation, but considering baseball's deplorable history of performance enhancing drugs, I think it would be in our best interest to keep our heads down and get our own house in order before we shoot from the hip. FYI there were two more positive tests resulting in two year suspensions over the summer gone.
As the saying goes: "Before you save the rainforest from the parasites that are ASADA, try delousing your own closet"

Great comments mc15. Sorry if I made it sound like John was implemented. Not my intention.
I still stand by everything I say about ASADA. They are nothing short of a debacle and are running on hidden agenda and looking for scape goats. They don't care who it is they want someone. Just go read about what they did on the weekend. They are just a disgusting organization. Trust me, I know all about them as im a journo.

Yeah they are an interesting mob. I deal with them a lot with my day job. I think the challenge is to understand their role. Like I posted before, I think of them as an equivalent to the tax office. They have a compliance role than needs to be fulfilled, and the only reason they exist is because of the behaviours of those past.
I get why they are in place and I get their role. In my dealings with them, I don't think of them as with me or against me. They are there for compliance only. The only stick they wield is distasteful... I.e investigations and suspensions, thus they are always going to look like the bad guys, just like the ATO.
I don't buy the talk of agendas with them. They have no purpose outside of compliance that requires an agenda.
As for the Essendon Districts team getting tested, if you sleep with dogs you wake up with fleas. Dank presented at a function at their club providing the players and associates with information on substances to take. One of ASADA's briefs is to investigate where there are behaviours that could lead to an anti-doping violation. Therefore, if they became aware of Dank's content at the presentation, and deemed it to be at risk, under their own code, they are obliged to test the athletes.
And of course, if you haven't done anything wrong then you have nothing to fear with the tests. All a bit of a beat up in my mind

Again, fair comments and point taken.
In summary I have it on good authority that John was asked and his answer was love to but not under the current climate

Not necessarily, chief man. You should be waiting on an official announcement rather than latching on to rumour or wishful thinking by administrators.

Looks like the powers to be are replacing the netting of the batting cages/pen at Altona. Should make the place look better while providing some safety for the boys.hopefully they use the opportunity to lay the artificial turf down and clear out the huge rocks in the tunnels too.
