What happens if the league isn't around for the next 10 years, will they get a refund?

Does anyone know if the All-star games this weekend are being broadcast online? The traffic is terrible and I don't think I can make it from Bali to Laverton in time!

Being 48hrs away from first pitch on opening night are rosters finalized? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know who will be taking the field.

Just had a look on the ABL website duckfart and all teams have listed players on each of their club rosters. Must have just dropped this arvo.

At last. Oh well lets hope they get off to a good start. Glad to see the list has some young talent, national and international but has still got the likes of Harman and Davies to lead them. I look forward to seeing them come together.

Darryl George as a pitcher??? Please.....This is thanks to the complete bulls**t that Tommy Thompson dribbled all over the club last season. That idiot came to Melbourne and poured his sewer mouth and opinions all over the club and the league. Go home, stay home and never come back.

Wrong. I've spent plenty of time around this co*k smack. Courage......please. In a previous interview I asked him why he is so ego driven and has nothing but putrid rubbish to say about the game. I am banned from all Winston Salem home games. So you say Courage. Ive courage enough to still apply for a season press pass every year.
the guy is a joke and trust me I've told him this to his face in Chicago and Australia. Ive also expressed my utter contempt for him to your Justin Huber and our own Eddie Einhorn. I'm assured he wont go any further in the organisation.
So your reply has been a complete failure. You obviously subscribe to his vitriol of baseball hatred. Real people of the game despise these type of characters

Interesting Comments Parkman. I don't understand why you blame Tommy for Daryl George being named as a pitcher this season? From all involved last season, I only heard high praise for Tommys commitment to the Aces and the effort he put in with developing the playing and coaching staff and funding he had, or didn't have more importantly. That he swore a bit doesn't detract him from being a friendly and honest man who came to Australia and showed us a style of baseball many hadn't seen before. He backed our young players and supported the imports. I think we are better for having him here and I believe the team played for him as best they could. I know he won't care too much about your point of view, and that's fine you are entitled to it, but if he had come back and you had the chance to to meet him, I reckon you'd change it. That said, it's a pretty brutal attack on anyone in a public forum without putting your name to it. Might see you at the park tonight to see how Daryl goes. Tim.

Our comments were posted simultaneously it seems, I read your post after I had clicked send. Not interested in debating team selections with you, the people at the Melbourne Aces are doing the best they can with what they have and I'll back them for it.

Nothing against the Aces, I'm a big fan of Justin and what the front office is trying to achieve. The Aces have taken a giant leap forward in appointing Joe Vavra. This is a guy who is a baseball dictionary and a stalwart of the game, I've interviewed him several times and he is a delight to question and be around.

Parkman, having played under Thommy last year and getting to know him pretty well i would have to strongly disagree with you. Sure he was loud and boisterous but the wealth of knowledge he brought to the clubhouse and game day was extremely high. In baseball you meet many different characters and Thommy was certainly one to remember but to drag him and his name through the mud like that isn't right.
I learnt a lot from him last year and not only about baseball. I think it's quite funny about how much gets overlooked because of a youtube clip or word of mouth. If you asked any of the guys last year from the aces or i dare say guys Thommy has coached previously you would be surprised at how much respect and fun they had when he was around.
On the George thing, it was no experiment. As you may or may not be aware Georgey threw as a kid as was pretty darn good too. Did you ever think it may of been his (Georgey's) own decision to take the mound. The guy was recently released from his organization and it could have possibly been a new avenue and still be an avenue for him to play minor or major league baseball. I say good luck to him, keep chacing the dream anyway possible.
Everyones entitled to their own opinion and this is mine

Parkman.
Darryl George is a very handy pitcher. It was his decision, along with Tommy's encouragement to persue this avenue of his baseball career. He throws an easy 90 which is not very common for a fresh converted position player. As Mitch has said he threw plenty as a junior and if it gives him another opportunity within the U.S professional system, why not?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to jump on this forum and slander someone's name anonomously is a pretty weak, low, dog act. It should be pretty obvious to anyone who knows Tommy on the baseball field, and behind the scenes at the Melbourne Aces that your comments are fueled by some sort of personal agenda against Tommy Thompson. If you had even the slightest bit of the insight you claim to have you would know Tommy cares passionately about the organisation he represents, and the men who play under him. He was passionate about the improvement of every person on the team last year and his game day knowledge and intensity would be rarely matched in this country.
You write like you know Justin personally, you know George personally, s**t you even know Joe Vavra personally. You are in a position where you have 'been assured he will not move any further in the organisation' (Tommy Thompson) yet I can't think of who you possibly are.
I want anyone who reads this forum to know that people who know Tommy Thompson personally, strongly disagree with your previous comments. Until you are prepared to put a name to your drivel anything you say carries absolutely no weight on this forum.

Melbourne Aces V. Sydney Blue Sox. Game 1, Aces 3-Sox 0. Game 2. Sox 7-Aces 3. Game 3. Sox 1-Aces 1, bottom 5th. just now. OK !!! Best start to a season for the Aces in a while, the home stand must agree with them. 2 games to 1 up with one more to come Sunday. Even if it's a tied series it will be the best of starts in recent years and a series win will be the best of the best starts. C'mon Aces! Every game counts.

I went to each of the games during the last home stand and Justin and his crew deserve a big pat on the back for the product they are now offering. Everything is run smoothly, the mid innings entertainment is fan friendly and doesn’t hold up the game like it has in the past, the field itself along with the fan facilities has never been better. The food and drink on offer is very good and when it comes to sporting venues not overpriced. Even with all this being done as good as possible (on what I’m sure is a shoe string budget) there was still only ever around 200 people at the game.
I know it’s flogging a dead horse to go on about Altona, but it has to be said regardless of how well the club does with the “product” and even if they could put together a winning team, the Aces are still never going to draw a crowd above a couple of hundred on a consistent basis while playing at the White Elephant.
To continue to use this facility year in year out is truly flogging a dead horse.

In the way of incentive to make the trek to Laverton for an Aces home game against Perth Heat on Sunday 15 November, all Australian Baseball Alumni members will be admitted free and will be feted with food and drink by one of our generous sponsors in Fielders Choice. Our first Members' Day. May there be plenty more of 'em. Wot? You are not already an Australian Baseball Alumni member?www.abpaa.com/

What's your thoughts on the new import rule? It seems as though the Aces are the only team using it, they start an Aus player and after the 1st they replace than player with an import.
I am not a fan of the rule, you cant have a go at the Aces for using a rule to their advantage, surely the league need to amend the rule so that the player at least need to get an At-Bat or play 3 inning inning before being replaced?

Bobby I inadvertently posed on the 2013 thread the other day question why pitchers were starting the outfield and then being replaced after an inning. Johne answered the question as to why which is the point you raise in your post.
Like you no issue with the Aces doing what they are, but why have a rule that is designed to force the playing of Australian born players if it can be so easily circumvented.
Maybe the rule needs to be tweaked that you must have a set number of Australian born players in the line up at all times, not just the starting line up. And BTW make that number at least half.

I like it Regg, I guess the only problem I can see is what if a player gets injured?
Is it a reflection of the standard of Vic based players? Do the good players not want to play? The are some side questions that also need to be asked.

The rule is somewhat of an amendment from last year which mandated a restriction on imports at all times, however there was a loophole which allowed an Australian pitcher to throw to the first hitter of an innings and that would count as an Australian for the entire innings, even if he (and it was usually Wayne Ough) gave up a baserunner and an import came in and got three outs.
The rule for this season was largely for Canberra to take advantage of (IMHO) given they have extra imports...two of which amazingly count as Australians (don't get me started), but if its within the rules...
In regards the local talent - a few of the players missing: Blackley, McGrath, Thorpe, Gibbons, Hussey, Stenhouse, Street, Madden, Moylan, Beresford and I've probably missed a couple of other signees. Add to that Lindsay who is playing club ball, Spence who hasn't played for a year or two, and Russell (a former club MVP) as former signed guys who haven't come back (and that isn't a shot at those players by any means - they are not mandated by any means). Elliot Biddle walked away, Huber has retired, Wearne is back at club ball among even more others. There's some fair talent in those names alone. But looking at the roster, the lack of locals in their mid to late twenties which is what Perth has had and Brisbane is gaining is most important for mine. I've no doubt the team is giving the best they have, but there's a void or two in some key areas at present.

Hey Stu,
The majority of the guys you mentioned are pitchers, the Aces are playing Aus pitchers as position players for the 1st inning then replacing them. Russell, Warne and Biddle would be what I classify as veteran players so where are the young up and coming position guys? I wouldnt count James Beresford because he has never played in the ABL (after 140+ games in a MiLB season I can understand why).
What happens when guys like Harman and Davies call time on their ABL careers?
