Moved from Rumour Mill Winter 2011.
ingrownhair said........--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So 33 games is NOT having an impact, then why is an historically strong Div 1 club, MALVERN discussing dropping to Div 2 ? Players not playing for "various reasons"? Clubs having trouble getting anyone to coach them and even discussions about ditching the women team for obvious reasons!! AAHH good times!!

p26 said........Kc/goblin, should we move the last comment to a new summer 11/12 rumour file? Would that give newport a new lease on life? I'd be curious as to how much of malvern's predicament is to do with 33 games. Look at their team prior to the 33 game season and it was full of veterans. How many would have retired regardless of the extended season, what was their succession plan like? How many of the players that stopped were over 35, heading over to college or switched clubs and how many because of 33 games? As for clubs not finding coaches, are there any clubs other than malvern facing that problem? They considered div 2 at this time last year if I remember correctly and not only decided to give div 1 a crack, they also qualified to stay up! Rumour has it a lifelong burner has the job at Doncaster, or is almost signed sealed and dilivered. Interesting to see if there are any more coming across. Has been known recently to bring a few players with him. Just not sure who it is. I can never tell the difference.

P26, obviously you know most of the guys who were at Malvern, so I'm not surprised that you're right.
IGH, not sure where you get your info from, but it's 50/50 right. Yes Div 2 was DISCUSSED (not decided). P26 is right, we have suffered badly from pretty much all of our senior guys from three years ago retiring. In fact, Barbs was the ONLY player still playing from that team.
A few guys from this year's ones have also informed the coaching staff that they will not be available for next season.
Our successful junior program will prove fruitful for us, however that will not be for a few years.
It was smart of our committee to look at the stats and put an option to the members of the club that we play in Div 2 next season.
The number of games was NOT part of that equation, nor was it why our senior guys retired. Like me, they were just getting old and had more important commitments (work, family etc).
That's pretty much all I will divulge at this stage as our new president and recently appointed committee are currently putting plans together for next season and the seasons beyond.

Elevateandcelebrate et al, I can catagorically and factually state that there has been no club coach appointed at Doncaster. We are still taking applications and have started interviewing some candidates. Whilst it is true that the person whom you refer to was offered the job before LAST season, this year presents a totally different application process ie start from scratch. I personally am appalled at this rumour as it may be 'scaring off' potential applicants who falsely believe a decision has been made. End of rumour.

I'm not being coy p26.
Note, I'm not on the committee, but as far as I know, interviews have not started yet. It's not a done deal.
I do know a little more, but seeing that the process is ongoing, it's not appropriate for me to comment. I hope the forum members understand that.
Geez those young Westgarth boys are travelling well.

Whispers floating out of the kennel are that Footscray will be entering a side in the Division 1 womens comp this coming summer.
Also floating about is that the men will be dropping to Division 3.

Chelsea up and Footscray down, I would hope not.

I personally feel that Footscray should have been in Div 3 and not put up into Div 2 with the re-alignment. Very hard for a side that had gone winless for a number of seasons in Div 3 to compete with many sides in Div 2.

Chelsea up and Footscray down, I would hope not. Chelsea came up in place of the Waverley Wildcats. If in fact Footscray are going down it's happened since the draft fixture came out last week.

If Ballarat enters teams, look for Waverley coming back and Division Two organised into East and West conferences, with crossover finals being played.
Or is this fanciful?

What's the likelihood of Ballarat teams in for 11/12 KC?
Would you have a junior element to the club as well?

I haven't spoken to anyone about this for a week or two, Stuart, so I don't really know.
At last report there were positive moves afoot to enter a couple of senior sides, with certain concessions being granted by Baseball Victoria.
My understanding is that, for the first season at least, BV would be happy with Ballarat running its own summer juniors competition (of four, five or six teams). The expectation would be that Ballarat would work towards a more comprehensive junior involvement in coming years.
In the interest of baseball development at regional level, I'd love to see teams being entered for 2011/12, especially with the new, fully lit facility and a moderate resurgence in the sport locally.
But there's some history here. The move to summer was within an ace of happening a decade ago, before a few short-sighted though no doubt well-intentioned people scuttled a similar plan.

Any word on why waverley would pull out of div 2? Seemed to be a success?
