You can't use commonsense! One persons idea about what common sense is is completely different to another persons idea of what is common sense! They teach that in work place o,h&s courses, and it rings true here.

I have been watching this forum for a while and I gotta say I love reading all the different opinions and have not felt the need to post anything but d**n this whole pre-game drink thing is just rediculous.
I mean seriously are we talking about an ameture sport or are we talking about a professional sport where we all get paid to play and that is our job.
I dont have a problem with guys having a beer before a game, I have been known to do it myself, but we all know our limits and we all know that 9 times out of 10, ney 10 times out of 10, we just make oursleves look stupid on the field as we cant perform if we go too far.
Reading through the rules on the earlier link there was nothing to say that I couldnt sit on the side line and smoke a bong or shoot up post game (dont get me wrong I'm in no way condoning that). Unless the cops showed up and took me away there is nothing that any-one could do for a few weeks until the urine tests were back. This just shows the hipocracy of the whole situation.
As others have said I have 1 beer and I'm unsafe to play right field for the F-Troop down at Upper Combucner West but I'm safe to drive a car load of people home after a game...
Get over it, stop whining and trying to have a rule for every bloody thing that might just happen in a game that has so many unknowns.

Just because this has been happening since Jesus played full back for Jerusalem (don't forget he'd also turn water into wine for the blokes on his team!) , doesn't mean it's right 2,012 years later. I'm sure a lot of us can remember when we were kids for e.g. in my case good old uncle after Xmas lunch (paying homage to Jesus) and a skinfull would pile all the kids onto his ute and drive around the streets for half an hour singing carols and the occasional bawdy ditty. Try doing that today. I feel for the blue who made the decision, 'cause if he was made aware of the drinking and some juniour got pegged by a waylaid pitch or legged by an over exhuberrent runner guess who the angry litigeous parent would be gunning for? The umpire is responsible for the safety and well being of those on the field of play but ultimately players should be responsible for themselves and the consequence of their actions. The lower the grade, the more likely 1 or 2 beers or JB's will make a difference to ability levels. p.s. Moses was a mid fielder, you know parting the waters and all that.

I have now come to my senses and realised that Jesus was playing full back and Moses was controlling the midfield and Satan was running the bar and enticing all us aging athletes to the demon drink prior to start time to increase our ability to get through the warm up without fear of pain. It really is up to the individual to take responsibility of his actions and where and when he does have a tipple, and probably should come back to the Clubs to monitor sales.

Back to baseball, an interesting weekend in the Bendigo competition.
East and Dodgers clashed in the last round before the break, both hoping to gain some steam before the break. Dodgers jumped early and at one stage were 9-0 up. East then cranked up their hitting and cut the margin to 9-8 until the Dodgers were able to plate 3 more late to finally run out 12-8 winners. A surprising high score line, although the top pitchers from each team did not throw to be as fresh as possible for this weekend.
In the other game it was Falcons v Scots. Falcons were able to jump early in the top of the first, plating 5 runs. Then Falcons defence really went to work, with a number of spectacular plays, keeping Scots off the basepaths. Scots were then also able to restrict the Falcons offense, with them only scoring 3 more for the game. However Scots for the match were not able to advance a runner past 2nd base, Falcons running out 8-0 winners. After the top of the first it was a well pitched game on both sides, with zero walks for the match.
With the week-off marking the half-way point of the season the Falcons sit on top of the ladder, followed by Dodgers, East and Scots. Good luck to all completing this weekend in Geelong (unless you are playing Bendigo of course) looking forward to a good weekend.

Should be a good weekend of baseball if the weather permits. Just waiting to the team announcement of the DBA and see what the make up will be. Last time I was at Geelong in February, there were canoe races across all playing fields it rained that hard and long.
