Word has it there was some fisticuffs out at Port today, and when the guy who started it copped the worst of it, did the manly thing and called the cops. Mulgrave won both games pretty easy.

Both the A Thirds and A Fourths at Melb today won in the bottom of the final innings by Melb against Doncs. Errors cost the away team in the fours with the winning run a bang bang play at the plate with Burgoine Senior taking a heavy hit and flip in a fair baseball collision. Solid hitting in the thirds got Melb over the line with James 'tight pants' Roy knocking a 2 rbi double to RF to plate the game closing run.

Pretty tough walking 3/4 way towards the pitcher with a bat in your hand as well, puma! Thought they were supposed to be tough down at port?

Mully grubs to face the tribunal again, 2's coach copping 8 weeks for verbal the other week, should be an interesting week to see how many you get for going 3/4 to the mound then starting a bench clearer,

It wasn't the Mulgrave player who went to the mound. Sad day all round really for the Port Melbourne BC, who the he'll tries to get assault charges laid over a dust up in a ball game, even the coppers were embarrassed to be there

Shame the police where called. Also a shame that the mulgrave player laid into the port player as he was picking up his hat from the ground (once the scuffle had finished).

Not a joke at all, hence this should be a testing week on how getting ejected goes

Who said the scuffle was finished, this isn't Primary school mate, if Toddy wanted to give him another one good on him, Port blokes been a clown for 25 years. Also, he may have been going to pick his hat up, but he certainly wasn't bending over to pick up the hat. Can't believe he, or his team mates did nothing about it, what the hells happened to your baseball club?

On the flip side a really enjoyable game was played yesterday that ended in a 9-9 tie between the Pirates and the Scraggers in Div 6 !

I'm sure it will all come out in the wash especially with the director of umpiring watching the game from the sidelines if my mail is right.

Is that a joke? Plead guilty to saying a few chioce words to the ump, first time up in 30 years and gets 8 weeks. The same night a willy guy got 2 for striking. Go figure.

If its true that a bloke ran at the pitcher with a bat in his hand and wasn't tossed, I hope he wasn't there or the 2 blues might have some explaining to do.

I'm sure the director will make something up, and throw the book at whoever they want too! It was a baseball fight, it happens from time to time. Long time rivalry, and I'm sure it won't be the last time two teams come to blows in a game. Just some poor form to call the cops when your just as guilty as the bloke your trying to lynch! I've been involved in plenty of argy bargy with port, but not many of mulgraves current first side would have a clue about the history between the two clubs. but as knucklball stated some things, or people just don't change!

I think of the Port team on the weekend only 1, maybe 2 would have had any memory let alone involvement in the old Port/Mulg rivalry. That rivalry has been doormant for some years though with a huge turnover in playing personnel at both clubs. As you said things happen within games and its disappointing to see at any stage when police get the call to attend any event.

Wyatt33, the director of umpiring was at the game performing his usual duties of reviewing and providing feedback to his reports. Ian is a very well respected former player, former umpire and should receive this in his current role. Both umpires yesterday also have an extensive playing and administrative history within baseball.
I’m sure that both the umpires themselves and in conjunction with the director, will or will already have had a discussion about the game and their complete on-field performance as would normally happen at a game that Ian attends.
In the same way as we do as players, I’m sure umpires will self-assess and think to themselves how they would handle various situations again in the future. Remember, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
It was disappointing though that what was a normal baseball incident (that is a HPB – in the top of the 2nd dig with no prior notable history between the sides so definitely not intentional), did blow up very quickly and for the boys in blue (for those playing at home the umpires were wearing red yesterday so no reference to them!!!) to be called is simply not on. Once this sideshow was over, It was great to see both teams moved on from the incident and played the rest of the game out as all games should be, without any further incident, not even a minor niggle.
Larry42, I agree completely with what you said. I am now in my 9th season at Mulgrave and have no knowledge of the ‘rivalry’ that Wyatt refers to. There are only 3 players in our current 1’s squad who have been at the club longer than I and all 3 are younger than me also so I would not know if they have any knowledge either. Well and truly gone I would suspect.
Dogboy, I’d be very interested to know when the last ‘brawl’ involving Mulgrave Baseball Club was? “another baseball brawl” – very interesting comment where you have clearly made some assumptions without any knowledge of this situation, let alone the recent history of the club.

every1 has been popped by a baseball. suck it up and take your base. do you think the pitcher was thinking, hey this hitter has been in the 4ths for the last 5 years, he looks dangerous, i think ill pop him in the second dig to set up a double play. if you run at a pitcher with a bat in your hand, you desrve what ever you get. if your upset about getting hit by a baseball, go play marbels.

He didn't run at the pitcher he walked, bat still in hand, got to about a metre from the bottom of the mound. And you are correct, he wasn't red carded for that, nor was he even spoken to by either umpire. That's where the problems begun.

my bad on the running, its like chinese whisper, the stories get better and better, but if you walk to the mound with a bat in your hand your still a dope. funny the ump didnt jump inbetween them. normaly they are stright on it and walk the hitter up the line. still if you wanna be a hero and wave a bat around, be prepaired to be in a barney rubble. i cant fight my way out of a paper bag, thats why i just take first when i get hit, along with all the other players that get hit.

5-all draw Preston-Reservoir Buccaneers Vd Fitzroy Lions in Div2 Masters tonight - game was one of the more bizarre games I've ever played in for so many reasons that I cant even begin to explain. Game went only 3 digs and Fitzroy didnt get a hit yet plated 5 and could nearly have won it Im still shaking my head !
