Why is it a bad move? To give a young coach a chance to work with and grow with a young team? Or to not give it to Mike Deeble?
I think Pickles and Brendan will make excellent coaches, both have earned the respect of the playing group and both will lead by example.
Proof is in the pudding guys, if the two young guys take the club to finals next season what then? Still a bad move?
Mike Deeble is an excellent coach and may have been very good for the Dragons, but i see no problem with giving to young and knowledgable young guys a chance.. Maybe its just me?

Agreed OB, while my shift key seems to be failing ( not ... now it works) the two boys are well and truly hard working and have a strong raport with all of the playing group, while Mike will have that too, is he still going to be coaching at the nationals? how much time would that take away from the club job? its a huge commitment being a club coach, but that combined with state trainings and the tournament could be overbearing... Both pickles and macca have been showing their leadership qualities and had even started to get involved with coaching last year during trainings, if they're keen and they've got ideas... why not give them a try?

Malvern Baseball Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Burton to the position of Head Coach for the upcoming 2011/12 summer baseball season. This year will be Adam’s first as a senior coach and Malvern Baseball Club firmly believe that he is the right man to lead the club into a new era of success.
As a player Adam brings a wealth of experience to the position having spent 3 years in the College Baseball System with FCCJ Jacksonville in Florida and a further 3 years in the Minor Leagues as a member of the GCL Orioles and the Idaho Falls Braves. Between 1990-2001, Adam played 11 seasons in the original ABL representing the Waverley/Melbourne Reds and Brisbane Bandits, highlights included: - ABL League MVP in 1999 - Winner League batting title in 1996 & 1999 - Was a member of the ABL All Star team 1995-2000 - Represented Australia between 1997-2001 - Member of Australian 2000 Sydney Olympics Team - Member of the Gold Medal winning Australian Team at the 1999 Intercontinental Cup Adam’s knowledge/understanding of the game, training and preparation techniques will be vital as the club begins a complete overhaul of its senior and junior coaching structures. When asked, incoming Club President Andrew Vartan was quoted to say “Malvern Baseball Club was established in 1898 and has a long and proud history in top level baseball in Victoria. We are keen as a committee to do whatever it takes to restore Malvern as a force in Division 1 baseball. We see Adam’s appointment as a key step in this development.”

Dont get ahead of yourself richovie.
My issues with the current format have more to do with how we have to squeeze in 33 games (please refer to "flogged to death" on other threads) and certainly had nothing to do with Malvern's coaching.
My winter coach on the other hand...
