Not gloving ground balls cleanly.... the ground looks bad, if it plays like it looks, surprised there aren't more. There was a seemingly straight-forward muffed double play in the 7th or 8th that hurt, but the damage was done in the first dig.

For those that missed it, after ending the innings on a fly, Jimmy B lobs the ball into the stands, hit our friend Authentic right in the back. To top it off, someone vultured it! So it looks like the 50 I slipped Jimmy was worthwhile

oldracer, I can testify that pakkyp has it right with his assessment of the infield ground condition. It is truly appalling. I took a wander out to the ss area after game 2 to check for myself, and the ground is just as if it has been furrowed with a plough through deep loose dirt. James was injured in the last inning of game 1 when a routine groundball veered away from his glove and bent a fingernail into the end of a finger of his bare hand. And it gets worse; his throwing error in game 4 was due to his feet becoming stuck in the dirt so that he could not swivel to deliver the ball to 2b. I am surprised (amazed?) that the ABL is prepared to ratify the ground as being a safe workplace.

unfortunately IRB, that's what my instincts told me, when does it get to the point that it did a few years back when all players were allowed to wear cleats at Altona when the Chinese Taipei team were here, something about workplace safety or the terminology as it was then, mouthguards would be a must in the kit bag.....

having played most positions in the infield at the show i can tell you that the surface isnt fantastic but it is getting better each week. as long as we are getting good crowds and support it doesnt matter about the surface, it hasnt had to much of an impact on games and the whole place has a great atmosphere about it. im sure i speak for most of the team in saying we would rather have people in the stands than a great playing surface. although the way the surace is goin next yr we will have both

lets not worry about the players or the ground condition... there are plenty of fields in Vic that are worse, and I'm sure these guys would play on worse to play at this level... For my first experience of The Show, I think it has good potential. The small bar area is of concern, especially if the finals come to town. But more importantly, my $4.50 hotdog was luke warm at best... guess I'll do the thermos and DIY hotdogs next time.

Gotta ask Goblin. How are you managing to take and upload such great footage? Is this a handycam or a phone?

Hi Joker, I use this one sanyo.com/xacti/english/products/vpc_cg10/index.htmlIts a handy flip one that is small and easy to carry around and use. Whilst I don't possess to have any skills in this area I'm happy to put forward some vision highlights for those not in attendance.

pakkyp, to suggest that we should "not worry about the players or the ground condition" is to ignore the fact that MLB is the primary stakeholder in the ABL. If MLB were to deem that players contracted to their clubs were exposed to injury due to ground conditions then it is reasonable to assume that MLB would respond adversely to that. The Cavalry played one of their infielders out of position due to their concern as to how Cincinatti would react if the player were injured. The Twins have offered the view that one of their players should not be exposed to these conditions. These should be understood as at the very least early warning signals from the driver of this competition.

The footage is great, and while the boys on the field may not realise it yet, they will come to appreciate having the video available to them in years to come. The old ABL video cassettes have all worn out by now, and there was precious little available at the time anyhow. BTW - which colour one do you have?

We have a few old ABL tapes TJ (credit the wife for the taping though). They are mainly Reds games though.
If I knew how to get them from VHS to DVD and then put them on youtube, I would. Might have to have a word with the great Goblin on Thursday night.
Still haven't gone through the entire catalogue as we only found them again recently, but will have a look through, for old times sake, soon enough.

I have the black colour model
