Looking at the radar right now the next 30 minutes will tell the story - just hope it misses the Showgrounds (but it doesnt look too good right at the moment). Fingers crossed for all concerned !

Dark clouds coming from NW but they look like they're breaking. 40 mins til first pitch and hopefully the weather will break up by then.

Did hear something on the PA saying they are now looking at double headers tomorrow and Sunday.
Sunday 1st game to start at 12 noon
Didn't catch what they said about tonight ticket holders.

Must be. They'd be crazy not to. On the topic, curious why tix are for specific dates rather than just tickets to a game that can be redeemed at any game. Surely they're not banking on a bunch of sold out games already?

They have done a good job with setting up the the homerun fence with containers all the way around.
Only downside would have been the condition of the playing surface. Whilst improved greatly since Sunday, it was far from ideal as a surface for 1st grade baseball. (looking from the stands that is)
Left field was approx 290 and the short porch at rightfield was 272. The short porch was compensated by double stacking the shipping containers

Imagine running in to one of those full tilt chasing a fly ball. A park that small i'd say it's more than a remote possibility.

Tonights tickets can be used either tomorrow or Sunday. I'm looking forward to seeing some baseball too. I think the venue has some real potential.

Agreed trober - aside from a few small things you'd swear we had our own little minor league park. Perhaps the only surprise is that the containers in right stop about six-eight feet before a small foul pole. Had they got to the edge we would have had a situation where anything off the containers was a home run, now it's a bit of guess work (and that foul pole is surprisingly small. Yes, its disappointing that we got rained out tonight but we've waited a decade to get started...another day won't kill us off. Sad for the people who have spent so much time in getting the place as good as they did but we can't control what comes from the sky too much - at least we will get four games in over the weekend...hopefully! For the Aces people, it was a bit of a slow go getting out of the car park as no one really knew where they were going but one crowd controller found a set of keys to the gate at the Government Pavillion and we were straight out. No reserved seats for members who braved the rain a couple of weeks ago was a bit disappointing, but hopefully will be rectified soon. The ground will be right in time as will the whole set-up. The first few weeks were always going to be the toughest, but to me, it looks like all is heading in the right direction. Go Aces!

To bad if you your busy tomorrow and Sunday! Nah not really, but it would be tough to claim you did have tix when they took them off us at the gate with no stub or anything! They also need to sort out licensing and toilets! To make the only bar in the place as far away as possible to the dunnys is just plain cruel! Besides that lots of possible upsides to that venue, except travel, parking, weather etc!

Here's a personal thanks to all of the hardy souls who turned out at the Showgrounds tonight.
I've gotta tell you, the players & staff were all excited with the vibe. What a bummer that the weather got in the way. There are plenty of other who need to be thanked but that can be for another time. Hope to see you all back at the Showgrounds, what a sporting city Melbourne is, with the best sporting public in Australia.....pis$ing down, the ground crew working their backsides off to get the ground finished, and we still get a great crowd who were willing to sit it out to see the first pitch. Only in Melbourne.
Thank you all.............see you at the next one.

Phil,
Was fantastic to see the players almost desperate to get out there and put on a show - no doubt everyone is ready for baseball in Melbourne and it was clear players/officials and the groundcrew were doing their utmost to get a game on.
A special mention to that groundcrew as well. A fortnight ago I was there in pouring rain and to see what was there then to now and considering the traffic that's been on it recently, the job done has been nothing more than first class and will come up in the coming weeks.
Not noticed tonight were the army of volunteers who got drenched like those there a fortnight ago did - no complaints from any of them - they were all there doing their best to help us enjoy the night. Thanks to them as well.
Will be at all four games over the next couple of days Phil, rain, hail or shine, memberships in hand ready to watch our team go hunting for four wins.
Good luck to all - lets hope the rain stays away.

This is a small tidbit that I took about 75 mins before game time. It shows the ground layout. Hellofa lot of work had been done since Sunday to get it up and running. Unfortunately the weather god was against us. By scheduled game time a very healthy crowd had arrived. Look forward to many pleasant games there.

Thanks Goblin, really get a sense of it now.
With Adelaide and Sydney losing tonight it tightens things up a little at the top, and with 25% of the season behind us but with all of our home games to come it would great to win 3+ of 4 this weekend (weather permitting) and put Canberra in our rear vision mirror and then go after the 4th spot of the ladder (and a finals berth) hey.

Amazing to see the ground crew and volunteers working their butts off there tonight. Special kudos to the two guys who spent the entire evening sopping up the area around home plate with large sponges. Relative to what I had heard the field itself looked fantastic and is a testament to how well the ground crew prepped it. Hopefully the base dirts aren't too sticky. I was looking around trying to guess which people in the members area are frequenters on this forum. Don't know what any of you look like. What's something we can do to distinguish ourselves? It was worth the trip out just to see the fork lightning over center field and the amazing sunset to the south-west. Here's hoping the weather holds off tomorrow for some play. At least it's going to stay warm!

Aces management has informed us that this afternoon's game (set to start at 4.30) has been called off. It will be rescheduled to a date to be fixed.
Tonight's game (7.00 start) is slated to go ahead.
Tomorrow's two games are also scheduled to go ahead (12.00 PM start and 3.30 PM start).
Patrons from Friday's night's rainout are reminded that they can redeem their entry against any of the weekend's other Aces games.

Don't know, wyatt. I didn't ask.
You'd hope that last night's patrons would be allowed entry to any upcoming game. I expect that they'll make an announcement on that, but will wait to see how this weekend plays out first.
