The big question at the moment
Will the Showgrounds be ready in time for the 1st game ?
This weekend Equitana is on at the showgrounds from thurs 18th until Sun 21st.
With horses and carrages tearing up the main arena, what state will the playing area be at.
No work will be starting on creating the baseball playing areana until Mon 22nd.
That leaves 4.5 days to create a baseball field from scratch.
Whilst the weather look fine for the 1st part of the week, showers expected latter in the week.
Unfortunately they are also predicting showers for friday.
Is there a fall back position ie: Will the series be shifted to Altona if the ground does not come up?
Also note the game 4 is to be played Sun 28th at 3pm in competition to the BV competition..... will make it tough on viewing numbers.
So many questions, so little time to make it happen

The MLB groundsperson responsible for the Canberra development will be in Melbourne tomorrow (Sunday) and I believe is supremely confident that everything will be in order within a four-day time frame.
If it comes up as well as Narrabundah then we should be pretty right. The word from the Aces camp is that Canberra is "first-class" and that he has done a fantastic job.
But yeah, it's a tight time frame......

Your positive outlook and "glass half full view" on next Friday's home opener is brilliant Goblin...

Why aren't there playing double header on Saturday, not a very smart move.

Why aren't there playing double header on Saturday, not a very smart move. They are playing the double header on the Saturday. Prob is that Game 1 is on the friday night, 2 and 3 sat and 4th Sunday. I would say the problem would be compounded by the ground not being ready to play before the friday which forces the situation

all they need to do is delay the start time till 7pm in stead of a 3 pm start. Most true baseball fans will be playing or just finished their games.

I don't know if that will happen webber. You'd think that the visitors would be locked into travel arrangements and that the ABL wouldn't want the series running into a work day on the Monday.
Let's look at it another way. Running the game concurrently with club baseball would prevent most of the baseball faithful from being there. But it would also provide an opportunity to assess the degree of broader community support at this early stage of the season.
I'm sure the league could cop a loss at the gate. If no-one turns up, yep, they'll know that more promotional work has to be done. But getting even a half-decent crowd there would make it an interesting exercise.
We need to remember, too, that a Sunday game has the potential to attract women's baseball interests and other players who have Saturday games next week (there are a few of them).

I know myself and quite a few of my team mates are all making the hike over from the south east. Should be a cracking night (if they get a game in with the weather). And I tell you that beer had better be bloody cold because I plan on consuming quite alot of it. You're all more than welcome to join us for some post game "entertainment" at a venue yet to be confirmed aswell. And no I don't mean strippers. Chances are we'll be visiting some of my old stomping grounds from my days as a Western Suburbs kid. Hopefully get up to some of my old tricks too!!

The Mrs has some tickets through her work but cant attend as im a junior coach on friday nights... cant attend sunday as i will be playing at 3pm.. So that leaves saturday for me to try and sort something out... I know it must be hard to organize the schedule but you would think they would think about the fact alot of us play sundays and alot of kids play friday night.

Four games to be played on a weekend and you want to rule out Friday and Sunday? Double header on the Saturday not good enough for you - you want a quadruple header?

No change of venue for Friday night announced on the Aces website, so the Showgrounds must be ready. They couldn't change the venue this late in the week. Could they?

Someone from the Aces posted 5 photos of the work at the showgrounds on facebook yesterday.
10 mins latter 4 were removed.
1, which I guesstimate was taken Sun or Mon evening, showed that they had cut in the bases and mound. Problem was that the ground condition was a disaster.
Other 3 photos showed shots which I guesstimate yesterday in daylight hours showed the ground in a slightly better light. By the looks there was a a ride on roller working on the ground. Also showed crane truck working on netting.
Also, instead of the 30 ft fence they said they were going to erect at the short porch at rightfield, they were stacking 40ft containers.
Whilst I believe that the ground will be ready, no guarantee on the condition of the surface. (anyone got some spare green paint)

These might give an idea of where we are at with two days to go. Don't know about projected attendances, but at least the horses have gone..... And how about that Blue Monster?
