Port Melbourne Melbourne University v. St Kilda Monash University v. Diamond Creek Plenty Valley Redbacks v. La Trobe University Waverley v. Westgarth Werribee v. North Coburg Rebels Croydon v. Could someone explain registration fees to me. My Bv rego is $125 for summer and $35 for winter. The rego for my 9yo is $93 for summer and $77 for winter.
How can it possibly cost more to register a 9yo for 12 months than it can for a senior? How does this attract kids to the game?

MWBL If played Summer and now Winter it is the same charge for Juniors and Seniors, $35 If Little League (9yr old) is playing Winter ONLY it is $73. The major diff is the ABF component which is only paid the once per season.

my understanding is a re draw after a qualifying number of games. along the lines as it was years ago during the summer season. all teams started in div one and then split up as per the teams ladder position mid season. not a bad way to go as you always start in the same division giving you a chance to keep you your younger players from being enticed to move to a div one club.

The DBA is kicking off on the 8th April with only the A grade playing the only fixtured games of the round. All the other Grades will start on the 22nd April after the Easter Break from what I am led to believe. The A Grade from what I am told will have 8 teams in the comp. Bonbeach and Boneo coming back into the Fold and Pakenham dropping back to B Grade. Upwey will be venturing into B Grade this season. Good luck to all competing DBA Clubs and Good Luck to all Winter Clubs and Associations for Season 2017.

Terrific Opening Day of competition at Geelong Baseball Centre today, with A Grade teams each playing a doubleheader. Guild won both of its games, while Saints, Deakin, Bellarine and Lara had a win apiece and Mounties remains yet to open its account. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

Well folks, it's on again for one week, then back in a fortnight after Easter. The DBA having had a restructure to the Executive have produced a first up for the A And A Reserve this weekend. First up is Bonbeach making a return to A grade after a few years in B Grade and they take on Berwick at Berwick. Berwick have a couple of notable ins being Blake Cunningham and Cain Hillier. Not sure what is happening down at the Bluejays, butb they might struggle this week and for me Berwick to have the win. Dingley take on Boneo, the other club to get back into A Grade down the road to Rosebud. Should be an interesting tussle as Dingley have no real change to their personel but from what I am hearing from down the road, Boneo have recruited reasonably well for their foray back into A Grade, Dingley just to scrap through. Mornington head to Cheltenham and in the past have done quite well against the Rustlers. The Anderton boys make their respective debuts for the Rustlers with the rest of the side being as you were from last season. Mornington being lead by Jay Willis will take on a diffeent approach this season and should sneak by the Cheltenham team this week. And finally, we have the match of the round between the Tomatoes and the Angels whom will be playing for the coveted George Dicker Cup. Frankston have managed to get Steve Hughes from Berwick to move over which will bolster the pitching stocks at the Patch which will be looking to improve on last season Preliminary Final finish. Dandenong appear to be pretty much the same as last year with the exception of young Lucas Taylor being convinced to continue his baseball under the tutelage of Dave Clarkson. Should be an intriguing battle withe the BOYS getting up. Good luck to all players from all Association this weekend, get a hit, get a play and have fun.

Starting in fine and beautiful weather and finishing up a complete torrential down pour made for a fascinating Saturday for the DBA Opening Day. First up we had Berwick taking on BonBeach with Berwick getting the lollies witha 7 nil victory. The BIG suprise of the round was Boneo hosting Dingley and Boneo causing the upset with an 8 to 7 victory. Congratulation to the Braves on their winning re-entry to A Grade. In an interesting tussle between Cheltenham and Mornington saw Cheltenham prevail over the Jay Willis led Pirates 8 to 5 and finally with the George Dicker Cup on the line Dandenong were hosting Frankston in the Traditional first up game. Both sides started with left handed Pitching Dandenong with Mark Surtees and Frankston with Mitch Bowen. Both pitchers did a good job in trying conditions for pitchers at the Angeldome. After the 3rd Dandenong led 3 to 1. Steve Hughes came into the 4th and gave up the 1 run to get the Angels lead out to 4 to 1. Just as the weather was turning a bit blowy(Tornado like) and drops start to fall from the heavens, Frankston mounted a comeback against Jesse Gavin, Frankston had bases load with none out and two runs scored when the game was called to Cyclone Pepper passing through and staying for the rest of the day leaving the final score being Dandy 4 Frankston 3. Look forward to see what comes out of the second round.

The Penguins beat Ringwood 3 to 2 at Heathmont. All pitchers were dominant. Gibbons and Wilson for Heathmont. Hodgson and Jones for Ringwood. Josh Hendricks hit a massive home run to right center which proved to be the difference between the 2 teams. Heathmont won the A res 2 to 1 in Lachlan Cravens last game.

A couple of big wins in the GBA this week, with Guild blanking Mounties 14-0 and Bellarine posting a 10-1 home win over Saints. Extending its great start to the season, Lara prevailed 9-4 over reigning premier Deakin Blues.

Round two of the DBA was played in fairly good weather and the results kept coming. Boneo upon their re-entry to the top grade made it two wins on the trot by defeating fellow re-entry team BonBeach 16 to 7. Dandenong flexed their muscle a bit and out hit Berwick 12 to 7 to give Dandenong their second win. Cheltenham and Dingley played out an exciting 6 all draw to give both sides their first points for the season. And finally we have Frankston travelling to Mornington to play for the Jordan Penpraze Memorial Shield. A well organised day by the Mornington Baseball Club was topped off by an all encompassing game that went right down to the wire. Jayson Arthurs started for the Pirates and Mitch Bowen for the Tomatoes, Mornington got on board in the first with an unearnt run and the game stayed that way until the 6th when Frankston tied it up at one apiece. Steve Hughes had relieved Mitch Bowen and did a stirling job in holding the Mornington offence. Josh Mulherin relieved Jayson Arthurs and started where Jayson left off. Nick Veale relieved Steven Hughes and the Pirate bats scored a go ahead run to make it 2 to 1. Top of the 9th and the Tomatoes came alive with the short game interspersed with the odd hit and put up a five spot to take the lead 6 to 2 where the scored remained with Nick Veale picking up the win for Frankston. Looking forward to Round three. Bring it on.

As we enter Round three for the A Grade in the DBA we have some interesting games that lie ahead. First up we have Frankston fresh from their come from behind win over Mornington travelling to Berwick in which should be an intriguing tussle. Frankston seem a more rounded unit this year relying on youth and should get up in a close game over Berwick. Mornington travel to Boneo to play for the Neil Williams Cup and should be a test for Boneo. Mornington would be smarting from losing last week to Frankston and will be trying to make amends over Boneo. I am tipping an upset and Boneo to stay undefeated and beat Mornington. Cheltenham take on the reigning premier team and should make for an interesting game, Cheltenham are redefining their team while Dandenong continue to pump through the youngsters and combine their experience, I feel that Dandenong will be too good for the Cheltenham team. And finally BonBeach duck down to Dingley, so far although the Bluejays haven't posted a win, they aren't far off, Dingley are still finding their straps and won't take Bonbeach lightly, in a close game, Dingley to get up. Have a good weekend of Baseball and may the rain stay away long enough to have fun.

The results for Round Three in the DBA sort of went as you were. First up was Frankston heading down to Berwick for what normally ends up as an interesting tussle. Frankston jumped out early by 8 runs for Berwick to comeback with 5 in the 5th. That's where the score line stayed, with Frankston picking up their second win. Mornington trotted off down to Boneo for the Neil Williams Cup and had an intriguing battle all day eventually coming out on top 6 to 5. Cheltenham and Dandenong had a solid tussle all day with not between the two sides with Dandenong eventually prevailing 5 to 3 and finally Bonbeach played Dingley at Dingley. In their first season back in the top level, they are still adjusting the the tempo and requirements of A Grade and struggled against Dingley finally going down by 11 runs. Dingley wins.
Round four and Round Five will be played a a weekend doubleheader for the A Grade.
Good luck to all next weekend.

The first of the three double header weekends for the DBA is now completed and the ladder is now taking shape with results that are coming in. First off, on Saturday, Boneo kept the fine start to the season rolling by knocking off Cheltenham at Cheltenham 11 to 7. Dandenong travelled to BonBeach and after a spirited effort from the Bluejays Dandenong got up 14 to 8. Mornington taking on Berwick tore the heart out of Berwick to the tune of 15 to 5. And to finish the Round 4 for Saturday Frankston played Dingley where the Frankston bats came to life early and took to the Jackson Boyd offerings, Rick Wheeler hitting a Psuedo Grand Slam, one player didn't quite touch home plate reducing it to a three run slam. Mitch Bowen continued his fine start to the season pitching 5 innings giving up the one hit while collecting 9 strike outs. On the Sunday, Boneo traveled to Dandenong and came back to earth with a thud losing to the Angels 16 nil. This leave Dandenong undefeated on top of the ladder. Cheltenham and Berwick faced off against each other with Cheltenham keeping Berwick to their miserable start to the seasson by defeating Berwick 10 to 6. Mornington took on Dingley and the Pirates continued their good start to the season by defeating Dingley 9 to 2. Finally Frankston took on Bonbeach with Nick Veale taking the mound throwing five well controlled inning with several strike outs holding Bonbeach to the solitary run while accumulating 16 runs to imply the mercy rule after 6 innings. Steve Hughes hit his first home run for Frankston in a very dominate display of hitting. The top four at this point of the season is Dandy on top, Frankston 2nd, with Mornington and Boneo rounding out the top 4 after 5 rounds.
Have a good week.

Round 6 in the land of the DBA which is a repeat of Round 5 but just played 6 days later. How novel and imaginative. Anyway, here we go. First up is Frankston travelling to BonBeach for the return match. The Jays will be looking for an improved effort while the Tomatoes will be looking for another solid outing. I feel that the Frankston pitching will be the big difference in this game as the Frankston pitching staff have been almost lights out for the season so far. At this stage, Frankston should get home and retain the "Muscle". Dandenong travel to Boneo and will be hoping to dish out more of the same as last Sunday when the handed Boneo a baseball lesson. Boneo should be bolstered by some players that were unavailable last Sunday, looking for an improved effort from the Braves, but the Angels to get up. Berwick are trotting off down to Cheltenham in what should be a reasonably even game, this game will be won by the toss of a coin and I feel that Berwick will get back up for a return win. Finally, Dingley heads down to Mornington who are travelling quite nicely at the present and should have to many weapons for the struggling Dingoes. Pirates for mine in a buccaneering fashion.
Good luck to all this weekend, and can someone show me a map to Pakenham, haven't been there for a while, might get lost.

Round 6 has come and gone with no real suprises this week in the DBA. First up we had Dingley trotting off down the highway to Mornington and putting up a much improved performance managed a draw with the Pirates 3 all before the light disappeared. Next up Dandenong traveled a bit further down the highway to Boneo and found a much better equipped Braves outfit than last week but still managed to run out relatively easy winners 10 to 3. Berwick trekked across to Cheltenham hoping for a better performance and delivered very nicely reversing last Sundays result 9 to 2. And finally Frankston went down to BonBeach for the return "Muscle" game. Frankston got off to an ordinary start by the pitcher Mitch Bowen gifting the Bluejays their first run by committing a couple of personal errors. The game stayed way for three innings. John Halse was pitching quite well to keep the Frankston hitters in check until the fourth when Dayle Selleck launched a two run moonshot which was followed by three more runs to take the game away from the Bluejays. Mitch Bowen was relieved after the fourth with the score at 8 to 1 and replaced by first gamer Kade Burns who kept the Jays intact for the next two innings, only giving up the one run. Further home Runs to Nick Veale and Will Keys padded the score out to 12 to 2 with Jai Nelson closing out the 7th and 8th to give Frankston their 5th win for the year. The top four at this stage is Dandenong on top with Frankston 2nd, Mornington 3rd and Boneo hanging in there in 4th spot.
Bring on next week.

Forrest Hill was to good for my Penguins today. 6 to 1. Wilson and Gibbons battled hard on the hill. Taylor was great for the Eagles. We just couldn't get anything going offensively. Heathmont won the A Res comfortably.

Round 7 has now been and gone and even at this early stages of the season, the writing is already starting to appear fairly large on the wall. Starting with Berwick playing Boneo, this shaped up as a defining game with Berwick starting to hit their straps and out slugging Boneo to the tune of a 12 to 3 run victory. Itnow appears that Boneo is finding that the honeymoon is over and the reality is setting in. In the second game we had the replay of last years GF, with the Angels completely shutting out the Dingoes to the tune of 5 to nil to keep the Angels on top undefeated. The Mornington v Bonbeach game has no scores at this stage due to no one from Bonbeach putting the scores in. And finally, Frankston hosted Cheltenham in what was an important game for both sides, Frankston got out early to a 2 nil lead that came back to 2 all in the third due to some wayward pitching and at times an interesting baulk call that nobody knew what for. At that point, the Tomatoes put the hammer down and scored 5 runs in the fourth to take the game away. Cheltenham replied with a run in the sixth and Frankston replied with two of their own. The game was called because of light in the seventh with Frankston leading 9 to 3 to consolidated second spot on the ladder. So much for the forecast. Magnificent baseball weather. Bring on next week and one week closer to the SWC.

The A grade Penguins won a high quality game against GMBC 2 to 0. Sam Gibbons tossed 6 innings and Matty Wilson 3 innings for a combined shutout. Andy Mann pitched all 8 innings for the away team. We scored both runs in the second inning after 4 consecutive good at bats. Ayres double, Nicholas RBI hit, Hunter moved the runner up 90 feet and a RBI hit to Hunkin. The A Res was a 9 all draw.

Round 8 has now gone and the ladder is now taking shape for what looks like the finishing positions even at this early stage of the season. First up we had Dingley and Boneo having a crack with Boneo out hitting Dingley but also having more errors on the day to allow Dingley to win 18 to 13. Next up we have an undermanned Bonbeach playing Berwick and the scored showed the state of the teams with Berwick winning 9 to 1. Cheltenham travelled down to Mornington looking for improvement from the week before and ran Mornington all the way finally going down 4 to 3 giving Mornington a consolidating win. Finally Frankston took on Dandenong in a tightly fought tussle. Good pitching was coming from both sides with Mark Surtees quelling the Frankston bats while Mitch Bowen giving 3 home runs still managed a tidy 5 innings of work. Cain Bumpstead sent two long balls sailing and Nick Thompson the other. Final score was Dandenong 4 to Frankston 1. The only real difference being was the lack of hitting from the Frankston line up that only threatened in the later innings. Next week sees the final round before the SWC in Geelong. The games are Boneo v Frankston, Cheltenham v Bonbeach, Dandenong v Mornington and Dingley v Berwick. See you all next week.

This weeks crystal ball look in for Round 9 has a couple of defining games for the season already. Let's look at Frankston heading down the freeway to Boneo, Boneo needs a win to stay in touch with the four after a fine start, and Frankston needs to get then bats going early to consolidate their fine start to the season. Frankston by four or five runs. Berwick take on Dingley, Dingley are in the same boat as Boneo needing a win to stay in touch with the four. Berwick need to win to stay in the four, should be an interesting tussle, just depends on which Berwick turns up. I feel that the Jack(Coach of the YEAR) Larner led Dingley might just get up. Mornington take on Dandenong in what Mornington would call a statement game. They need to put up a strong effort to either win or have an honourable solid loss by only one or two runs. Dandenong are travelling very nicely and should sneak home. Finall Bonbeach take on Cheltenham and will be looking to break their duck. Cheltenham will be looking for a consolidating win, should be an interesting game. I just feel Cheltenham will have one to many guns to take the points. Have a good weekend of Baseball. May the hits fly and the runs score freely.

The Penguins beat Essendon 8 to 1 in the A grade. Wilson 5 innings and Gibbons 2 innings were dominant. Mitch Ayres knocked in 4 runs. He went 3 for 3 with a jack. Josh Hendricks went 2 for 2 with 2 walks. Ross Hunter hit a 2 run shot. The A Res was won by Heathmont.
