Another week of Baseball and more results needed by a few sides. First up in DBA A Grade we have Berwick hosting Dingley, This is an important game for both sides, Berwick needs to win to consolidate 2nd spot and Dingley just have to keep winning to keep any hopes alive of September action. In an upset, Dingley to sneak in. Bonbeach have invited Cheltenham up the highway to for a game that is very important to Cheltenham who have to keep winning for them to also keep their chances going. Bonbeach have shown improvement and will have to be at their best, however, Cheltenham to win. Frankston head down the Peninsula link to Boneo and need a win to keep their spot in the four comfortable, after to close loses last week the Tomatoes will be looking to atone in a big way. Frankston in 7. The game of the round is on Sunday when Dandenong trek down to Mornington in what should be a beauty. Probably the two form sides at present locking horns. Mornington need the win to keep 3rd spot at present, while Dandy are travelling very nicely under Clarko's guidance. Dandy in a thriller.
Briefly in BGrade, Frankston take on Chelsea in what should be a reasonably class game. Frankston needing the win to keep third spot should suprise and win. Dingley take on Berwick in an interesting tussle, Dingley at home should get the job done. Paken host Cheltenham and should win comfortably and finally Upwey take on Dandy with Upwey needing the win, Upwey to win. Good luck to all the competing sides in the U/14 SWC being held at Frankston. May the weather be kind and game the winner.

Some serious excitement in Geelong Baseball Association, where Bellarine pegged back a deficit before posting a 9-6 win over Guild and Mounties YC smacked eleven in the first en route to belting Deakin 21-5. Meantime league-leading Lara continued its winning ways with a solid 8-3 result over East Belmont Saints. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

The Penguins went down 7 to 5 to Research. Bookluck hit a 3 run shot in the bottom of the last to win it. Mackay and Gibbons both pitched great. Hendricks hit 2 bombs. Tom Dicker hit a grand slam. Leslie led off the game with a homerun. Some amazing catches in the outfield by Leslie and Nicholas. The A Res was won by Heathmont 18 to 0.

Here is the wrap up for Round 16 in the DBA. Dingley went down to Berwick after leading for most of the game. It was a game that Dingley needed to stay in touch with four and now needs several miracles to feature in post season play. Berwick on the other hand consolidated 2nd spot with the 8 to 6 win. Cheltenham took on the improving BonBeach looking to more wins to keep the Rustlers in touch with the four. Cheltenham did the right thing by themselves by picking up a percentage boosting win. This keeps Cheltenham still with a faint hope of seeing Finals action. Dandenong took on Mornington in the Sunday game and appears to have had a comfortable win 9 to 3. This keeps Dandy on top while Mornington drop to fourth spot. Finally, Frankston ventured down to Boneo in what should have been a comfortable game to regain that winning feeling. All started well when at the end of the 5th, Mitch Bowen came out of the game with a lead of 6 to 1. That quickly evaporated to become 6 all before Frankston scored the last 5 runs to come away winners 11 to 6. Frankston moved to third on the ladder, but with the coming games, nothing will be settled until the last round.

Round 17 and it should be a beauty. First up in A Grade we have Frankston trotting off to Berwick in a 2nd v 3rd game of vital importance to both sides. A Berwick win puts 2nd spot a bit more safely into their hands whereas a Frankston win will give them back 2nd spot. In a tight game that will come down what I feel will be a pitchers duel, Frankston in a tight one. Nornington head of down the road to Boneo playing for the Neil Williams Cup, Boneo have been hot aqnd cold of late while Mornington have been quite impressive, especially with the bat, Mornington to get up comfortably. Danenong host Cheltenham at the Angeldome and if the Angels play to their full potential should put to end any hope os Cheltenham having a crack at the finals. Cheltenhams form has been a bit like a Brides Nighty, Dandenong in a close one. Finally Dingley are still competing for a spot in the four is someone slips up and should account for BonBeach at Wearne Field. In B Grade we have Chelsea playing Upwey. Chelsea have been impressive and deservedly owns top spot, while Upwey will give them a competitive game early Chelsea should prevail. Cheltenham host Frankston who will be looking to come back from their close to Chelsea last week and take care of Cheltenham comfortably. Dandenong and Berwick probably hold the match of the round as Berwick will be looking to dislodge Dandenong from 4th spot, in a toughy it will go with Dandenong with no great confidence. Finally Dingley take on Pakenham with Pakky needing the win, with that said Dingley should get up and take the lollies.
Good Baseball this weekend

With the protest hanging over frankstons head (which i hear is going to be upheld) if this is true a loss to frankston against the dodgers and a win for dingley against bonbeach will see them tied for 4th spot on 18 points.
Interesting week ahead! And an exciting run into finals

Well slypig, unless you sit on the Executive, I do believe you may be guessing the outcome. And if you do sit on the Executive, you are talking way out of turn. Or maybe you are from Dingley swinging on a hope and a prayer, similar to winning an U/14 GF last year I think.

Double play i do beleive if you check the ladder the protest has gone through and although dingley didnt get the points frank has lost the 2. So id say my comment was pretty accurate. As said previously a frank loss to berwick today and a morno loss to boneo has created an interesting run into finals.

Breezy conditions today across the GBA, where Bellarine downed league-leading Lara 10-7 in A Grade, Guild dispensed with Deakin 9-2 and Mounties YC held on for a 7-6 result over East Belmont Saints. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

As said previously a frank loss to berwick today and a morno loss to boneo has created an interesting run into finals. Slypig I am a bit confused here, although I acknowledge not knowing any details of the protest. The ladder does seem to indicate Frankston have been "docked" 2 points - 10 wins but only 18 points. My understanding of the rules is that when a protest is successful the game must be replayed from that point. Maybe this is going to happen & the points will then go to the winning team but on face value it is confusing. Interested to get something official from either the clubs or the league.

That was always my knowledge also however i cant see this happening. Either way its confusing for us all especially having it take 4-5 weeks for the decision to be made.

I believe the protest was over the illegal use of a junior catcher so there is no need for a replay.

Thanks Puma, appreciate the clarification.
My question would still be why the other club (Dingley I think) don't get the points.
In our league if you play ineligible or unregistered player you lose the other team wins.

I would hazard a guess and say that the protest hasn't been heard yet and no points have been awarded to either team pending the outcome.

That sounds like a pretty fair explanation. With the importance of next weekends double header would seem though needs to be resolved one way or the other very quickly

The Penguins went down 4 to 3 against Forrest Hill. Wilson and Gibbons pitched great for us. Taylor and Ley were a bit better. Quality game considering the windy conditions. Big last 3 rounds in the A grade with a congested top end of the ladder.

To try and clear up what the DBA problem is, a young player who pitched in the morning, came into replace the Frankston catcher who was injured in the 4th innings. Nothing was said during the warm up, then after the first pitch, Ash Riddiford comes down protesting that the young player can't pitch and catch in the same day. The player is swapped over after one pitch that resulted in a ground ball out at second. After the game continues the result just increased from about 3 to 1 at that stage to I think 6 to 1 in the end. yes I concede there is a rule covering this event(25.b), but there is also no penalties printed for that offence. From what I understand, there has been no please explain except for some emails going back and forth, but no hearing as such. It does seem a rather silly and stupid rule that allows a junior to catch both morning and afternoon(25.c) But in the DBA rules, there is nothing covering Pitching in the morning then pitching in the afternoon(25.a)This is allowed as long as the pitcher stays under the 100 pitch count for the weekend(U17). IMO, this has not been handled well from any angle that you look at, it has taken 5 weeks to resolve with no litigation at all. I don't this is finished at all.

Heathmont lost a heart breaker at GMBC. GMBC scored 2 in the bottom of the last to walk off 2 to 1 winners. Ben Leslie hit 2 doubles for the Penguins. Ryan Booth hit a solo bomb to lead off the bottom of the last. And a 2 out bloop hit over 1st base ended it. Great pitching by Sammy Gibbons and Matty Wilson for the Penguins. Andy Mann was outstanding for GMBC. Heathmont comfortably won the A Res.

Lara has ended an heroic late-season charge by Saints for an A Grade finals berth with a thrilling 3-2 win in Round Sixteen of Geelong Baseball Association, while Guild forced a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Bellarine and Mounties dealt a 16-7 crushing defeat on Deakin, which will limp into the finals after a bruising second half-season. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

The Penguins beat Essendon 23 to 5 yesterday. Ben Leslie was the standout with the bat going 4 for 4 with a bomb. Chris Nicholas and Matty Wilson had 3 hits each. It was a very dominant offensive performance. It's going to be an exciting last round of the year with Forest Hill, Research and us all fighting for a top 2 finish (double chance). Nth Balwyn and Watsonia going for 4th spot. Heathmont won the A Res comfortably.

I was approached on Saturday to find out why I haven't posted any DBA scores or predictions for the last week or so. The honest truth is that I have lost faith in the DBA as an entity. There is so many aspects of this asscoiation that needs addressing that this is not the forum for these matters to be raised. These concerns are my concerns and not to do with any Club that I may be associated with. I do this as a volunteer for a bit of fun as I do with the Radio Show. Therefore, no more write ups as I have found better things to do with my time. Enjoy the finals series and maybe someone from the Executive might find time to become a media person for the finals series and keep the people informed.

That's a shame Boof. Was good to get the DBA word out there each week about the happenings across the league. I'll give it a crack for this week (we'll see about the remainder of the season...)
4 huge games were played across the weekend, 3 of which had results that made an impact on the final standings, but I'll get to that shortly.
Dandenong defeat Berwick 5-4, in the 10th inning. Mornington squash some Tomatoes 10-3. Dingley made light work of Cheltenham, 14-1. and finally, Boneo played out a 6-6 draw with Bonbeach.
Now the interesting stuff with 1 round to play...
With Dingley winning and both Frankston and Cheltenham dropping their respective games, the top 4 sides are decided. Dandenong will finish 1st and Dingley will finish 4th... Mornington and Berwick are tied for 2nd, Mornington hold the better percentage out of the two sides heading into the last round of the season where Mornington play Dingley and Berwick will play Cheltenham.
All the best to all the junior players, coaches and supporters participating in finals baseball, which begin this coming weekend.

With the A Grade ladder settled in Geelong Baseball Association, the top three teams all had decent wins in the final round, with Lara trouncing Mounties 23-2, Guild getting away from Saints for a 12-7 result and Bellarine thumping fourth-placed Deakin 16-4. GBA Semi-Final Schedule and Preview will be posted by Monday evening.www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

The Penguins finish the regular season on top after a hard fought win against Watsonia 4 to 3. Cooper Goodman hit a walk off infield single. Ross Hunter hit a solo homerun in the 2nd inning. Ben Leslie hit a massive 2 run bomb to level the score at 3 all in the bottom of the 5th. Good pitching by both teams. 1st final at Heathmont next Saturday against Forrest Hill.

The Penguins are into the grand final in A grade after a 18 to 7 win against Forrest Hill. Mitch Ayres hit 2 bombs and a double. Daniel Mack went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's. Ben Leslie and Cooper Goodman hit home runs. The big blow to Forrest Hill was a 9 run 2nd inning for the Penguins where they had to use 3 pitchers to get through the inning. Forrest Hill showed a lot of fight scoring 7 runs from the 4th inning onwards. 7 runs this season would win most games. The Penguins racked up 17 hits, 4 hpb's and 5 walks.

Guild has qualified for its ninth GBA A Grand Final on the trot by thumping Lara 14-0 in the Second Semi-Final. The Wildcats will have a second chance in the Preliminary - where they will meet Bellarine Bears, who knocked Deakin out of contention with a 13-3 result. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/
