It seems every team or pitcher has their bogey man. Just can't get them out! I always remember Cam Hubbard carving us up. You could throw him every pitch you had and he would still get 4-5 hits and go long! Another was Ian Hubble at his Reds time. Couldn't strike him out and he always hurt us.

Bruce Dicker in the day was a tough out. Possibly the toughest out I can remember in the VBA......He would put a high price on his AB's, was a great contact guy who could also go deep.

Spot on Luca, BD is up there, I'm sure the mention of Michael Klinger would give instant nightmares to any pitcher that faced him. In more recent times I think Scott Dawes was the best clutch hitter in the state for a long stretch.

Ross Drinkwater in his younger days would always hurt us. As he got a bit older the curve and change would get him, maybe his eyes started to go. When he hit it , it stayed hit!!!

And the last two couldn't run out of sight on a dark night so that makes it even more admirable that they get so many hits and put so much value on each at bat.. I once saw the boys at Geelong timing Holmesy running between the batters box and first base and noticed they were using an hour glass rather than a stop watch

Hey vet... appreciate the rap mate, but no need to stoop there... and besides, nobody's bothered timing me on the bases since I was 13! And I'm pretty sure Sticks will be happy thrown in a pairing of treacle-footed burners along with me!

Agree, Holmesy is a pain in the ass, so is Benny Utting - glad he plays with me these days!! I've also given up my fair share of hits to Dawes. Justin Whitford can also swing it but I would say overall, Hayden Dingle is a guy you would rather walk 9 times out of 10.

....but I would say overall, Hayden Dingle is a guy you would rather walk 9 times out of 10. does that mean dinga hits .900+ each year ? I know what you mean tho chinny. Benny Utts I would have to say is the hardest to strike out always seems to make contact. Tamburrino when healthy gets on base more than anyone!!!! other tough outs imo are; Land Newport, Moore Sunshine, Hodges Waverly, McIntyre Essendon, Nicholas Doncaster,

Love you aueagle30.... Cecil Fielder couldn't run either big guy.
And I'm with you Johne with that praise of Tambo... If he stays healthy he could massive for those Essendon boys
While we are talking hitters I want to throw in two righties
Dean Marnell and Chris Nicholas are both really hard to strike out and always seem to be getting on base and under the skin of the opposition sides

I'm gonna go ahead and say Harman, Tambo, Sticks, Booth and Dingle. Tambo and Booth wont hurt you with the longball as often but they don't strike out either. Berg is rediculous when on but i'm gonna go ahead and say Wearne when he played every week was maybe the best overall hitters i seen in VBA. Never struck out and took me deep further than anyone ever has over the second set of lanes on springvale rd. If he plays this year and has protection in the lineup so guys have to pitch to him, he could be amazing this year with whoever gets him. He hits to all fields with power as well! A blast from the past was Rohan Brasher! He could hit the piss out of the ball as well! I bet there aint many out there who owned that guy!

Brasher owned everybody. So much power for such a little guy too.

i think that Andy tierney and dave Tierney r the hardest players to get out at the plate. Always making contact, they dont strike out to many times though out the year.

Darren Mclean, easily the best hitter ever to grace this fine game. Just as him!

I would say Tambo, Andy & Davo, these days are so hard to get out. But back when I pitched Jason Hockey was always tearing me up. just to throw in a couple more guys from down geelong way, I'll throw in Butch Viney (hit a ball that went out over a house over the road and into the school across the street MASSIVE) and Mark Jefferey, I could never get ghost out.
