BV slow on the build up for round 1. Not so slow on handing out fines for minor infractions (not phoning scores in) Priorities. Chicken or the egg. Time wasted by clubs not entering teams/phoning in scores stops them working on publicity. Not a hard task to phone in some scores. Massive job chasing up results from all teams in all clubs by the middle of the day Monday if this doesn't occur Thought emailing the scores through would suffice. Albeit at 7pm, but have a baseball club to run aswell.....

Just worked out where the stuff up about Liam Spence finishing the game with a home run in the BV write ups came from. Copied from Wakos post.

Where are these BV write-ups? All I can find is the "Weekly Weekly Wrap" promo with some preview stuff posted last week.

'player', it seems that at least an attempt to inform the baseball public is being made by way of BV's facebook page but is yet to make it onto their home website. I can only hope that more detailed wraps and or reports will find their way there in a timely fashion, i.e. before weeks end. Might I suggest that people upload any photo's and personal thoughts on games to the BV facebook page which may in turn assist BV in prompt reporting on their website so that people interested in Baseball who are considering joining in will be met by the most current of reporting with updated photo's are available to them.

Good start for the Bluejays on the weekend defeating Williamstown in the last innings 10 to 9. Great effort to come back from from 9 to 1 down halfway through the game. Good start to Matty Priors coaching gig.

Probably deserves its own thread, but something has to be done about Baseball Victoria’s and by extension the Summer League websites. When you compare them to other sports, even real minor players in the sporting landscape like lacrosse, gridiron and ice hockey we are so far behind it’s not funny. Other sites have great up to date reporting on all levels, photos, videos and fantastic professional looking and functional pages, all updated daily. These other sports all seem to have mastered their social media profiles as well in twitter, Facebook, YouTube and instagram. In comparison BV has no YouTube or instagram as I know and their twitter and Facebook involvement is the bare minimum. In this day and age a website and social media presence is no longer a luxury it is an out and out necessity for any business or organization that wishes to grow or even survive. Is there a full time web/media liaison person at BV? If not there needs to be immediately and if there is they need a kick in the A55.

Agree wholeheartedly johne and I believe that it has actually gone backwards in the last couple of seasons.

Websites: crap. Hard to navigate, they look unfinished, the mobile versions are garbage.
Social media: a few scattered reports but no continuity. Compared to the ACES Facebook page the BV one is a bleak wasteland of occasional unstructured text.
Reporting: I haven't actually bothered to pa*** it through a checker to get a readability score (I might do this after dinner) but it wouldn't rate highly. Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, factual inaccuracies, each and every report is very basic and compared to the old ones that our local wordsmith KC produced the standard is laughable.
I didn't mention anything last year but they have had plenty of time to actually get this basic stuff right and they just can't do it.

Why bother having a link to the non nationals if your not going to update it?

Puma, you could say the same about stats. What a waste of time that is, totally inaccurate and never up to date.

I am stunned. Almost lost for words, but obviously not quite.
I had aimed to stay away from Forum discussions about BV coverage of the game, but here goes anyhow.
I was not at a baseball game today but I stumbled across a link on the Summer League website inviting people to follow the Melbourne vs Blackburn game live – that is to say, SCORED live, but not even by an existing club scorer or a qualified scorer working on behalf of the league.
The system used was Game Changer, a basic scoring and game reporting programme that has been around for a while and is probably OK for amateur and junior baseball in teaching people how to score games, keep statistics and the like.
Game Changer will also generate a post-game summary that is, again, very basic. It is clearly computer-generated, without any flair or human insight – because of its very nature. The system is already used by a few summer and winter clubs who are obviously trying to do the right thing by their members.
I joined Game Changer a couple of years ago, out of interest. When I logged in today to see what was happening in the “Game of the Day”, I found that all I could access was box scores, total hits, errors and players’ names. No Play by Play, no recaps, no detailed statistics.
Unless, that is, I PAID FOR the Premium Fan Access, at a weekly or season rate!
Well, excuse me. Is this really what we have come to? Is Baseball Victoria really committed to adding another amateurish, almost childlike dimension to its coverage? One for which its members already pay, and one for which, now, any online visitors are expected to pay?
Our club scorers do a fantastic job, bless them all. Many clubs have embraced social media and have been consistently able to keep supporters in touch by that means of online communication. If we are relying on this amateurish Game Changer option – which is no longer free - as the front line of our baseball coverage then we have really plumbed the depths.
While there are good and positive things happening in specific areas, sometimes I despair for this sport.

Here in the UK thats all they do KC, they dont have scorers as such, its all run online. I even saw a 1b coach with an ipad during the finals series here. Yes he was running his team, coaching 1b and scorering all at the same time.

Just got home after a really long day at Jack Guiliano field, Preston led 1-0 in the bottom of the 6th with Sandy's lead off on none out then the heavens opened about 5 then we got going again about 6.15. Sandy tied it up after the restart but couldn't get ahead Preston added a run I think in the 7th and 2 in the 9th with Sandy unable to answer, Preston 4-1. Sandy 2's won 12-1 or 2, not sure of the scores but Sandy 3's won and Preston 4's won. I am going to have a couple of reds and fall asleep in my chair.

bobby, I accept that may be the trend in your current neck of the woods, although it does not say much about the state of UK baseball - especially its funding and its professionalism as even a lower tier sport than it is here.
My concern, on the basis of what I have discovered today, is that Game Changer has the potential (for us) to evolve into another fiasco along the lines of the IMG contract negotiated by Baseball Australia - that is to say, a dud system foisted upon us from above, one that will prove over time to be just another commercial arrangement of no real benefit to clubs or the baseball public.
P.S. Great to hear from you, fuzzy. I might have a couple (more) myself.

I tried to follow my 16yo Grandson's first game in the ones on the Baseball Vic site today and was surprised to see that I would have to pay to follow the Game. I can't imagine anyone except for absent family and friends that would be looking to keep track of the game and charging them (us) for that seems a bit rough.

Game Changer looks, feels and reads like a computer from the 1980's is having a crack at doing a write up of a game... talk about lifeless & meaningless drivel! Absolutely no chance of finding out how the game played out... give me the literary musings of KC any day of the week or failing that surely there are some budding sports journalism students who could earn their stripes on getting some work experience!?!?! Failing that, enjoy your 30+ games write ups being almost identical... just the names have been changed.....

Here goes....something positive! Rebels vs Ormond at gods acre, Ormond jumped out of the stalls leading 5-1 after 3, then slowly the grubs started to chip away. Going into the 6, with a score line if 5-4, with mully none out, runners on 1st and 3rd....god got involved! After a delay of probably 40 odd minutes and the entire rebel massive springing to action, we got another chance! And we took it! I don't want to go on too much but we won....and it was rad! Final was 9-6 but it could have been 1-0 because after the rain all we wanted to do was prove a point. Things are god at the grubs! Great crowd, kids playing and a club united in a common goal...success! Wokka is a gem, and he's got a ones team that wants to play and win for him. It's good for the rebels, and hopefully going forward we can achieve something special! Go Rebels!

southpaw22, you have nailed it.
There has to be another generation of baseball or sports-loving young people out there keen to develop or enhance their skills. Qualified people, articulate people - or at least committed people who want to develop their language skills and learn about the game.
In this instance (with Game Changer), the Australian baseball community is being taken for mugs. Maybe we are mugs. Maybe we are too trusting, too forgiving.
How about we let our capable and qualified people score the games? How about we engage capable and qualified people to report on the games, with the assistance of those scorers, club officials and other stakeholders?
How about we recruit the assistance of enthusiastic younger people who we are prepared to mentor and to help in establishing a media career? How about we draw upon the great grassroots resources that wyatt33 and many others have to offer?
Damo's post (above) is about the most uplifting and positive reflection on Victorian baseball that I have read for some time. Give me this sort of insight, and this level of passion any time.
Game Changer? Computer-generated reports? Lack of accountability of paid employees? Pffff......

Thanks KC. It's nice to be alive at the minute, and I've been critical of the future of the game here in victoria. Maybe it is warranted at times, but being a little old school still, I leave the technical stuff to the smart people and keep racking up rbi's and errors for the gravies! But I'm Happy to right reports on this forum and others, in regards to our games. It's nice to hear the positive stuff happening out there. 3rd div is super competitive this year, and there won't be any easy games. I'm hoping that we can use our experience the same way clubs like springy, willy and moorabbin have used it as a springboard to bigger and better things. Be nice to see Ballarat do the same. All clubs out there deserve their time in the sun, and what better way to do it than playing our great game across this great state. Look forward too this season at gods acre!

Terrifically competitive Division Two game between Ballarat Brewers and Berwick Cougars in perfect conditions at the magnificent Prince of Wales ground this afternoon. Ballarat starter Ricky Howell tossed seven quality innings and his club's offence delivered the goods as the home side bludgeoned its way to an 8-3 win over a well-drilled Cougar outfit. Wow.
No Bright and no Hussey on the hill for the Blackburn side was always going to make it tough for them, but forty-four runs scored in a Division One game??
Where are those record books again? Oh, that's right, deleted along with just about everything else compliments of our inspired changeover to IMG.....
