It has been decidedly quiet for info, goss' and opinion on the forum of late, even a lack of whinging and vitriol. What's happening in your neck of the woods? Where else can we get our info about specific Vicco news?

I've suggested to a club that does great in-house online reporting to maybe consider this site as a worthy one to c.c. their reports (amongst others). Sure they would be parochial but also give the reporting some personality not to mention added exposure for current and potential club sponsors. Waddya think?

The build-up to the new season for both BV and the Aces has been underwhelming, perfeckt. No doubt about that.
I am not sure what our much-maligned Forum can do about it, though. To many we are still the bad guys.
It seems that both BV and Aces are paddling in the communications area. If they do not have it sorted, then the clubs and the paid members should be demanding that those organisations look for proper help.
The members own this sport, after all.

I agree kc which is why a c.c. recipient for clubs postings could be the league that they are currently involved with and also Baseball Victoria. There could then be no end of info for current activity and game reports with the added bonus of securing what has been asked for by Baseball Victoria for several years and indeed promoted by your goodly self, amongst others. There are quite a fair few clubs across several leagues that have developed a strong ethos of online reporting within their respective clubs complete with photographs and indeed 'live game' updates. A free volunteer resource to be utilised by B.V. I know that the various governing bodies cannot afford to provide enough funds for a proper media reporting department that is dedicated to it's local playing members which in turn makes this approach an invaluable resource for them. I also understand that not every club has the constituency to be able to undertake such reporting but to me that is a way of freeing up the limited resources of the said governing bodies to report on such clubs and competitions whilst the larger clubs that can, do some of the heavier lifting. I openly ask B.V., why not? Please correct me if I am wrong: B.V. provide a disclaimer on virtually every report they make which presumably gives them indemnity for incorrect or potentially libelous reportage. If so what have B.V. got to lose by a copy and paste approach to club reporting. It hasn't in the paste, er, I mean past.

I could go on..........so I will. On the weekend past there was an annual commemorative game played between Upwey Ferntree Gully and Blackburn. I'm sure most diehards know of it as the 'Hoppy Shield' and the League made much of it some time ago. This time around, nix. You can read about the day on the Orioles Facebook page for example and it's replete with plenty of action and documentary style photographs. p.s. I'm sorry if I am remiss as I have not yet looked at U.F.G.'s website or page. Then again....has B.V.?

Steve, as always your suggestions are thoughtful, creative and grounded in simple common sense that seeks to utilise and build upon existing volunteer resources. I see no reason at all why BV should not avail itself of all possible assistance from clubs, associations and other bodies while acknowledging its sources and its contributors. It just takes a modicum of leadership and a degree of negotiated cooperation to get things going. Before I started my part time role with BV in seasons gone by, my predecessor asked for and was readily granted publishing rights to my then media work with winter baseball in Geelong. Proper acknowledgment was always made and I had no problem at all with what was an arrangement beneficial to all of us in the best interests of promoting grassroots baseball. I simply do not understand some of the apparent thinking (or lack of it) on the part of baseball governing bodies. For example, you may be familiar with some of the unpaid work that Australian Baseball Alumni personnel do in promoting the sport and raising funds for our emerging younger players. Although we have actively encouraged governing bodies, associations and clubs over the past twelve months to link to our resources and to use our material (with simple courteous acknowledgment), hardly anyone wants to take us up (with the exceptions of Baseball WA and Perth Heat - coincidentally and far and away the most progressive league and strongest ABL club in the land). We are not competing with anyone, nor trying to show anyone else up. We are just trying to help with promotion and advancement of Australian baseball, as are the committed and progressive clubs to which you refer and who you quite rightly commend. There are some odd and very insecure attitudes around Aussie baseball. We have to be collectively better than that. P.S. you are absolutely right about the Hoppy Day....it is a major event on the Baseball Victoria calendar, especially for the two clubs directly involved. It is a respectful, reflective occasion - naturally imbued with sadness - that brings like-minded people together in celebrating family, friendships and club connections. As always over the past several years, the Blackburn and Upwey clubs appear to have done themselves proud.

Any thoughts or info out there in regards to the VSBL season that starts this weekend? I'll start the ball rolling by mentioning C.B.C. Rustlers. After successfully retaining the middle ground over their last several seasons 2015/16 could be a break out year for them even though there have been quite a few changes of late. With the departure of the likes of previous club coach Matt Taylor, former club coach and player Hayden Dingle and dependable Daniel Mack (amongst other wise heads), Cheltenham loses some very experienced and respected baseballers. A club veteran of 20 years and still only 25 Nick Rossell has parted company with the Rustlers after last years Batting award and All-Star selection with the Aces U25 squad at the Nationals and will suit up with the Orioles as will 'DMACK'. Cheltenham will once again suffer for their successful club development of juniours, one of the best in the country. I say that because there are quite a few of the younger players that are already formidable players but will be lost to the playing group through overseas sign ups, State and National duties etc..The success that hinders C.B.C. is also their salvation as it has provided them with great depth throughout their senior Div'1 group with yet more junior players champing at the bit to step up and play senior ball the future is bright. This year I see them retaining the middle ground and quite possibly challenge for post season finals. The competition has never been tighter and I acknowledge that with the 2 conference system anything can happen and will. Good luck to all clubs. Go Rustlers, prove me wrong and take the flag!

This membership payment system is without a doubt the worst most poorly designed payment system in the world.

It is one way of getting the season payment out of the way. No part payments to be seen.

Don't want to harp on about the media again but if that is a paid role those previews are appalling. At least 2 players mentioned as playing vital roles for their clubs have been cleared to other clubs and one game is wrong. On the plus side we seem to finally understand the difference between a preview and a wrap.

Geelong will be in trouble if Troy Snarey is leading our offence, he tore an ACL in the GBA semi-finals...clearly minimal research done.

Whether anyone give a toss, rebels wolloped research 14-3 at lower plenty. This is not the same rebel outfit that battled last year. Only 4 players from that lineup, but the addition of some quality across the board sees us with three very competitive teams. Lead by Stuey on the mound and everyone thru the lineup getting hits, it was a good day at the gravies.

After gaining promotion this season, Ballarat Brewers posted a first-up 6-3 Division Two win in a hard-fought contest against Port Melbourne. Tossing five scoreless innings for the win, Brewers starter Seth Haehl was pretty much untouched as his side stormed to a six zip lead and held on as the Mariners rallied later in the game. www.ballaratcitybaseball.com.au/#!round-one/c1f76

BV slow on the build up for round 1. Not so slow on handing out fines for minor infractions (not phoning scores in) Priorities.

BV slow on the build up for round 1. Not so slow on handing out fines for minor infractions (not phoning scores in) Priorities. Chicken or the egg. Time wasted by clubs not entering teams/phoning in scores stops them working on publicity. Not a hard task to phone in some scores. Massive job chasing up results from all teams in all clubs by the middle of the day Monday if this doesn't occur
