Does anyone else put the fact that the ABF have had a funding cut of some $450,000 just happens to coincide with the rush to push the charter groups system through. Surely your not insinuating that BV / BA are using LL to prop up the salaries of existing employees. As I understand it LL is not for profit and relies on volunteers to make it a success. I believe the $500,000+ per year LL CEO himself has stated this. I wonder if it was him that offered the LL membership drive tip for running a successful league in the LL documentation to not include the cost when announcing registration days as it will drive potential players and volunteers away.

" So $420 for each child playing Charter covers ... juniors umpiring ... " It's pretty good odds that (very much often lower-level) club players will be umpiring these games, as BV does not have enough umpires to cover junior and senior games. If they did, then no player would ever have to umpire any game. Do non-accredited ("club") get paid by BV? I somehow doubt that this will be the case.

I'm not sure you'll get them.

Part of the direction that BV want to take with the Charter Academy Program is that they try to encourage older juniors in to umpiring these games which will take place on a Saturday morning. These kids are to be paid to do so. Will they get them - who knows. Is it a good idea - it has merit but lets see in the application.

For what it's worth, the local junior footy club has ten 12-15 y.o. kids (all players themselves) umpiring the U/8, U/9, and U/10 games each week. At $42 a game, it's extremely good money for an 11 year old => quite popular, so much so that they have to take turns being rostered on. And they do a very good job; it also helps their own game (I believe) as they develop an understanding of what the umpire is seeing and deciding on. The club AND the league have very strong, very supportive, and quite protective policies about umpiring. All in all, it works very well. If the Charter program can achieve even half of this success, then that would be a great outcome.

As of the other night the Yarra Rangers Charter is no more (at least for the next few years) as Waverley move in to the Eastern Rays and Berwick move in to the Southern Mariners.
Good situation for Berwick and Waverley as they both move in to charters that allow more vibrancy and growth.

Almost at the Xmas break and what are people's thoughts of where the Charter system and the Academy baseball is at?
