Im not 100% convinced of there being 1800+ but that's of little matter.
Being at the game tonight there were enough good signs for the club.
Schlehuber busted his butt on a pop-up to help his catcher. Massey was diving head first for balls when 10-3 down. Casteel looks dangerous at the dish too. Huber not far away from a good night too.
Hussey threw well and the defense missing balls can't be on him. Flores came in and threw strikes and Smith simply challenged hitters.
Harman joins the team for Friday which should see the defense move a bit (davies to second with george and schlehuber on the corners...or wearne at 2nd and davies in left perhaps?).
Lefty steve kent going off for canberra. First Australian to start a game for the Cavalry since the final game of season two when Tim Atherton lost a game that would have seen Canberra make the playoffs.
At age 39, Freddy Flores tonight became the oldest player to represent the Aces tonight.

Perhaps KC my call is early and unjust! Time will tell. Considering the Aces have yet to win a series away from home in 3 completed seasons and have been continuously sub 500, even when finishing in 2nd in season 2, the committed fans need to be shown that the corner has been turned. Did last nights game do that? The error of George cost us another 2 runs IIRC so I do consider that costly. Instead of an easy out the runner got to first base and the safe hit next at bat scored 2 runs. You could also see the Cavalry lift after that. Until that time I thought we had matched them pretty well However in a season where our continued existence may depend on our on field performances attracting supporters to the game, last nights game was a poor start. Despite what our manager may think about video streaming people do watch the game and will form their own opinion of what they see, even if like me, it is an uneducated view of the game. Neil W

Great to see that the games are being streamed live, broadcast on ABC Digital and now via a commitment with SEN in Melbourne.
However, can we please, please be spared the monotonous and universally despised on-ground music/sound effects that Canberra (and others) keep trotting out?
Namely, "Everybody clap your hands...cringe cringe cringe", "Dayo...dayo..." and that tired old Addams family theme.
What about something new, refreshing and maybe unique to our own Australian Baseball League?

Can't argue KC. Very repetitive though the effort of the night was an Eminem song being pulled after only a few obsenities.
One thing they play that does go down well is Sweet Caroline. It has always been well received when played in Melbourne but for some reason we don't want to play it.
tough game tonight but if you didn't see how this team was coming together after tonight then you're missing out. For mine the Aces were the better side tonight in all but two categories - runs scored and RISP where we were 1-10 but in several instances hit balls hard and were unluckily doubled up.
We are going to be good. Have seen enough to know that.

Good first up effort from Mr Burns who pitched well for his 5 innings. Showed good control and started well. Definitely a better game than game 1 and the Aces did well to level the game in the 9th. Unlucky not to snatch the game at the death. Still have concerns over our bull pen though. Perhaps a tad hasty judgment after game 1, though time will tell. Neil W

Heart breaking loss, aren't they all, in extra innings in game 1 of the DH. Canberra going for the sweep though aces playing better than the Cavalry in all areas except on the scoreboard.

Having witnessed the series first hand in Canberra, there's plenty to be happy with regarding the opening series of the new season.
With a bit of luck and execution, we'd have won the series, but to lose game two the way we did, and then game three, to win game four was the big thing that stood out for mine. Last season in Adelaide, I recall the team blowing the first game of a double header and then being blown away in the second leg. This team is a different one, and they bounced back to win game four, and the camaraderie amongst the group following the double play to end the game was something I don't think was evident last season.
No doubt the team will have been disappointed by some of the execution in certain situations, but that will improve as the season goes on. At times, the team drilled balls straight at fielders for double plays that would have been multiple RBI hits only a handful of feet either side of the defender. Canberra's luck this time - ours the next.
The coaches have had a series to work out their best line-ups, rotations and bullpen set-up. An extra two games this weekend won't hurt either.

"Our team" still feels more like an imposition than a collaboration four years along. I'm still unsure what makes this "our team"?

To quote an old Jazz legend (Fats Waller) "This joint's a juppin".
Just knocked over with excitement over the imminent opening of our season at home as displayed here. Is anyone interested at all? Or should we allow the crickets to chirp away unmolested.
Considering the Bites position on the ladder this series will give us a pretty good idea of where we sit in the scheme of things. Sitting 2 - 6 after series with Brisbane (Away) and Perth (Home) Adelaide needs to show something here or struggle for the rest of the season. We on the other hand MUST show ourselves to be strong at home as our on road record leaves much to be desired. Whilst I am pessimistic about our team Stu Capel believes we have recruited well and have turned the corner. Lets hope so.
Adelaide will grow an extra leg as they always do against Victorians. They appear to have recruited well and they looked strong on the vision stream I watched last weekend. To me the jury is still out regarding Perth though winning form is good form they say.
Two things may yet put a damper on the Ace's first home stand, being of course, the weather and the fact that like Brisbane we copped that ridiculously early BYE. What's that about? Had we played last week we would've had perfect weather for the series.
Anyway get along and support them in this 3 game series.

The Aces commentary team are certainly behind their team - IF I heard correctly, they told everyone that their new closer "thingyed" up his first 2 outings. Way to go TEAM!
That is "c$cked up" Use your imagination as the word was auto amended. Funny, the word is too rude to be displayed here, but fine to say on the live stream.

Took the wind out of my sails a bit that one. Beautiful day for it, glad to get back to the ballpark for the new season but it was a mission and a half to sit through that game.
Wiggins was good. But not much else to hang our hat on to be honest, Adelaide made solid defensive plays and we didn't. They kept getting hits and we couldn't. A flogging.
Stagg Chilli sponsorship was a winner in my books, love a good chilli dog.

So if the Aces return from Perth winless is it time for Phil and his band of merry yes men to be given the boot and start afresh?

Good read from KC of the preview of the Heat series.
Only 1 correction to his article being that the only Vision streamed game appears to be that of the Sunday game. All other games have radio commentary only.
This seems to be a backward step for the Heat, who along with Brisbane were the pace setters of the vision streaming for the ABL. Or is it pay back for the Aces refusal to stream Perth Games when they visit here?
I enjoyed the commentary if not the result.

Just setting up for the use of 6 cameras on Sunday. I would suggest that you have a look then. As stated previously, we hope to broadcast the game live into Canberra on the GWN network and some regional affiliates in W.A I have attached a Stats Pack for the game tonight. It is in Zip format and there are many interesting stats in there. Also here is the link to our game report: web.theabl.com.au/news/article.jsp?ymd=20131122&content_id=64130144&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t4068&sid=t4068Hughes, Adamson, Lamb and Wise are back to add strength to our team. The series that we are playing now is crucial. Need to get through that and then travel to Sydney next week. I think you are getting to the stage in the season that every game is important. The standard is very high and our Shortstop Joey Wong has helped filled in a position, where we were not that strong in last year. Our pitching staff led by Mike Ekstrom - who is real quality and pitching tonight, after his efforts in Taiwan - is starting to come together. Attachments:Stats 23-11-13 zip.zip (620.86 KB)

Well done Perth on a come from behind win after trailing the Aces through 8 innings. With the series now lost in Perth we sit 2 and 7 on a 222% and 5.5 games behind. With 1 game remaining in Perth and the upcoming series against what should be a refreshed Cavalry at home, where to from here for the Aces? Neil W

Hello masters and old racer, the gun was being pointed last season and with the start to the season being just as ordinary, maybe the gun should be pointed again in the direction of Phil and his merry men. It is Phil and his cohorts that pick the squads so there maybe one bullet fired in the direction of the selectors could start the ball rolling, but I just believe that a complete rejuvenation is required to get a spark into the team. The message is old and well worn and now needs an injection of new passion and probably a different direction. Looking at the Perth model would be a ripping start. Then maybe the players become more accountable for their performance otherwise the Aces will record another sub.500 season again. With that said, let the resurgence begin.

While some are pointing the fingers at the coaching panel, for all the losing, it would be perhaps timely to give them some credit for tonight's win over Perth.
Having lost the first two games and being down early (by a run or two) in game three, the pitching changes ensured the game stayed close, and a five-run last innings propelled the team to an unlikely victory.
Lets hope after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory a few times over the first few series, that snatching wins becomes habit.
