Did Geelong make a boo boo with Durston on the weekend?

Puma, Masters
Not my understanding of the rules, and absolutely not the way the rules have been applied over the previous three years of this playoff structure.
Since the Firsts and Reserves/Thirds/Fourths playoffs are not in sync (i.e. this past weekend had the Firsts compete in a semi-final, while all other grades played a grand final), the games are considered part of different rounds and therefore, no restrictions on movement between(other than regular eligibility rules).
This has been the interpretation for the past three years, and I recall no discussion or memo to note it had changed.

au, this is the whole Q & A. I would hate to think Berwick's finals chances were quashed by someone not knowing the rules?
Now a slightly tricky question. Our player ________ has played 8 games in the 1sts and 10 in the 2nds so he qualifies for 2nds finals. The question is, can he play on Saturday in the 1sts which is the regular season, and then play finals in the 2nds on Sunday? He will still qualify for finals with 9/10 games.
Rule 38 Two game/one day rule doesn’t apply as there is no double headers. Play can only play one game.

Puma, just last weekend, Nathan Rogers of Essendon played in the Division One Firsts game on the Saturday and then played in the Division One Reserves final on Sunday.
Last season, Adam Bright of Blackburn pitched in the Division One Firsts Semi-Final (Game Two) on the Saturday and then played in the Division One Reserves grand final on the Sunday.
I can't speak to any correspondance you've received, but the rules have been applied this way for the past three years to ensure clubs have adequate resources in playing a three game finals series.

No worries mate, but you can clearly see we were told different by A BV staff member.

In regard to playing condition 38, the two games/one day rule, the rule refers specifically to the situation of re-entry where two games are played on the same day.
It has applied in one situation I can remember where a Firsts game was rescheduled, but he Reserves game remained on the same day... Playing Condition 38 was enforced because the orignal fixutre had the games scheduled on the same day and the intent of the rule was to prevent player from playing in both games on the same day.
There are no rules that prevent players from playing two games on the same weekend.

That was David's response. Maybe we should protest.

I forgot a more recent example... Essendon's Michael Formisano drove in the winning run in Saturday's Division One Firsts Semi-Final (Game Two) before starting in rightfield for Essendon's Reserves in yesterday's Grand Final.

Just because it's been done, doesn't make it legal. The question was asked and answered. It cannot be done as per BV's advise.
No ifs or buts.

Maybe you can play in both but not not be a starter in the first game only a sub masters, again, the two game/one day rule applies to games played on the same day.

Any player qualified in both grade could play both games on the week end for the same reason a pitcher could pitch both games... They are different rounds. The firsts round were semi finals and the seconds were playing a grand final

After a quick glimpse through the GF results over at the vicsummerleague website I just wanted to say how fantastic it is to see so many different clubs experiencing grand final success. If my maths is correct, in the men's and women's comps combined, there have been 13 grand finals played with 11 different clubs receiving a flag;
Footscray and Ormond have 2 whilst Waverley, Geelong, Malvern, Cheltenham, St.Kilda, Berwick, Fitzroy, Blackburn and the Titans have also experienced GF success.
With the opportunity for Essendon to win Div 1, one of Willy or Mulgrave to win Div 2 and with either Springvale or Doncaster winning the Div 1 women's crown there will be at least 13 different clubs (and possibly 14) celebrating the 16 premierships available. Nice to see such a spread of success across the baseball fraternity.
(Apologies if I overlooked someone in there somewhere)

After all the negative stuff over the last week or so that is a great post stk09. Throw in Masters and you can add Preston/Reservoir and Melbourne to your list (and another premiership to Geelong).

Are you sure you asked the question with total clarity Puma?? Perhaps they didn't understand your question??
Also do you think you are the first person to receive bad advice from a far from professional organisation??? Perhaps you should've double checked the information given???
For years pitchers have been hitting in the 2nds after throwing the day before, not suggesting this is the be all and end all but still?? if I was unsure i would've seemed advice as you did and if still didn't believe it - check with another club who coach or person I knew for a second opinion!

Im a chippy not a lawyer nor do i spend my days trolling thru rule books to look for things to complain about. Why complain and pregnant dog about BV when teams have been using players who qualified for both grades to play on both days for years. Guess it's just a luxury teams can use if they are fortunate enough to have players qualified in both grades and both teams are lucky enough to be playing finals.
Judging by the feed back on the forum over the last month, looks like BV will have a tough time deciding who will be on the rules and regulations committee judging by all the volunteers who think they can do a better job...

stk09 has brought a much welcomed positive note to this thread and by extension this forum. Well done to everyone involved in this most tumultuos season. The depth of this league has amazed me this year and the passion from all has at times angered me, surprised me, made me laugh and made me hold my tongue. Other times, some libations have loosened said tongue. At the end of the season it seems to me that with all its faults this season has produced worthy champions across the board and those still contesting their ultimate prize. Keep up the pregnant dogging on the forum, keep up the questions and wanting to keep the admin' structure thinking but one thing I would ask is to stop the personal slander that has started to encroach on what is a great way to express ourselves. Passion is great, bitterness is not.

Barnsey, we asked BV a question and recived an answer. It now appears that either the answer was wrong or there are a few teams in some trouble.
Either way it's hardly trolling through rule book looking for things to complain about. Masters asked the same question and I supplied the answer given 2 weeks ago.
Maybe someone from Geelong needs to send in the same question.

The reason I asked the question was is seemed fitzroy were not going to use 3rds and 4ths players on sat because they wouldn't be able to play in grand finales on sun

Well if Fitzroy were given the same answer we were and it's wrong they have every right to be real p1ssed. It may have cost them a spot in Divvy 1.

Sorry soap, my bad, forgot to add that. Have a great weekend with the Darl, at whatever it is your going to get up to. Personally, a grand final is more important the a weekend on the 'job' at some b&b in daylesford! And pep, if your listening, your as week as piss too! Fair dinkum mate! Must have missed you there last night... Surely a grandfinal is "more important" then the family time/work time that you had going.

I couldn't get to the big game last night but will do everything to make it to Saturdays game. Who wouldn't want to see the best baseball players in the Vic' summer league going toe to toe in a must win contest ? It will be be as good a game of baseball as you will see......anywhere.

I it find interesting that BV has tried to give as much exposure as possible to the Aces throughout their season but when it comes Finals time the Aces havent done anything for BV. The Adelaide Bite for example have listed their players playing for their club teams during the finals which is great.
The only reason I can think of is that all the interns went back to the states?
