Not if you play 2 hour games all year. Finals should be played under same conditions that is played throughout the season regular. That is the premise that teams have made the finals on.

I am sure if I play pura cup anytime soon I'll expect this. But me and my 40 plus year old mates are happy playing a 2 hour final. If we wanted to play 9 innings we would put our hand up for A1,A3 or B1.

I dont know the DBA grading structure very well but 9 inning games for A1 and A3 but a 2 hour game for A2 sounds odd ? The A2 game is a 2 hour game as it has always been. A1, A3 and B1 games have always started after 2pm and the A2,A4,B2 and B3 games have started at Midday Hence 2 hours

For the lack of a week nineteen, the DBA finals prognosis will occur in this part of the forum. Good Luck to all teams competing. A GRADE 1st Semi Dandenong v Frankston This will be a tough hard match with very little between the two sides. Last time they meet resulted in a draw and the last outing for both sides last week resulted in losses. This is going hard to make a positive tip, but on the toss of a coin it's going to be the Angels by 2 runs. I just feel that Dandy's offence is a bit more potent than the Tomatoes. Should be a ripping game to watch.
2nd Semi Dingley v Cheltenham This game will be an absolute cracker. It will basically come down to whichever team pitches better will win the game. Offensively both sides can match each other quite well. For me I am leaning towards the Rustlers just purely on the basis of having more finals experience, nothing else, There hasn't been much between these two team all season and this game will be no different. Chelt by 1 or 2 runs.
B1 GRADE 1st Semi Dandenong v Moorabbin Dandy had the advantage of having some match practice last week whereas Moorabbin missed out on a fine tuning game. Moorabbin have just been too inconsistent this season, whereas Dandy have been very consistent all season. I feel the game will come down to pitching and Dandy have been very steady over the journey. I believe Moorabbin may have run their race and will run out of steam. And under the astute leadership of the new Burra Club coach the mighty Wokka, Dandy will salute by 4 runs.
2nd Semi Pakenham v Boneo What a game this will be. Both sides hit well and the pitching department is pretty much even. What this game will come down to is defence. Once again it is pretty hard to split these two sides, but being played at Pakkyland it is hard to go past the Pumas on their home patch. There won't be much in it, so it just have to be the Pumas by 1 run.
For all the other finals A2 Berwick v Cheltenham Berwick by 2 runs Dandenong v Dingley Dandenong by 5 runs A3 Bonbeach v Dingley Blue Bonbeach by 3 runs Chetenham v Berwick Cheltenham by 1 run A4 Bonbeach v Berwick Bonbeach by 1 run
B2 Pakenham v Boneo Pakenham by 5 runs Carrum Downs v Oakleigh Carrum Downs by 2 runs B3 Carrum Downs v Dandenong Carrum Downs by 2 runs Berwick v Boneo Berwick by 3 to 5 runs.
Good luck to all teams competing this weekend and may the weather be good and dry. Talk you next week.

I still disagree with the 2 hour finals, even the VBA gives you a 7 innings game after playing 2 hours all season. Some of the 2 hour finals may go 7 but i still think there should be more time allowed. The team i play in has an average age well over 40 and i think we can all manage going past the 2 hour mark.....The drinks taste better then as well.

Angels 6, Tomatoes 0, hard fought game with some lucky bounces and timely hits to put a few over the plate, frankston were always coming at us. A great year by frankston pushing us all the way, B1 angels over moorabbin 9-8, only saw the last half innings and really pushed the square the scores, thanks to both visiting team for hanging around after their games.

Monday's Wrap A GRADE Dandenong v Frankston In a game that could have gone either way. a few fortuinate hits and plays got Dandy over the line 6 runs to nil. The scores doesn't really reflect the closeness of the game as Frankston had chances to score but failed to capitalise. Congratulations to Dandy on a good win.
Dingley v Cheltenham I had the pleasure to attend this game and was not disappointed. On the back of some strong pitching from youngster Yoshi Campitelli who pitches six strong innings that was backed up by some excellent defence took a two run lead against the dogged pitching of rubber arm Matty Prior. With a Cheltenham pitching change came a change in the score with Dingley plating three runs through some good hitting and some sloppy fielding. That is where the scorline stayed until the end of the game with Dingley winning 3 to 2. Chelt this week will have some anxious moments awaiting the outcome of some interesting if unusual reports.
B GRADE Pakenham v Boneo In a close game on the back of some strong pitching from Rick Wheeler, Pakky survived a strong Boneo who fell short in the run department by four runs. The Pakky bats who have been strong over the last couple of weeks kept pounding the ball but good defence at times from Boneo restricted the strong batting line up to just six runs. Boneo had oppurtunities but just couldn't capitlise on them when required. Finals score was Pakky 6 Boneo 2
Dandenong v Moorabbin In a close fought contest that when down to the wire, Dandenong prevailed by the score of 9 to 8. Some good hitting and defence from both sides made this game very entertaining. Congrats to Dandy on advancing to the next round of finals and further enhancing the coaching aura of the great Wokka.
Other results A2 Dingley 10 Dandy 3 Cheltenham 15 Berwick 4 Next week Dandenong v Cheltenham
A3 Cheltenham 14 Berwick 4 Bonbeach 14 Dingley Blue 6 Next week Berwick v Bonbeach
A4 Cheltenham 12 Dandenong 1 This is Dandenong first loss in about three years. Bonbeach 16 Berwick 4 Next week Dandenong v Bonbeach
B2 Oakleigh 8 Carrum Downs 1 Boneo 11 Pakenham 3 Next week Carrum Downs v Boneo
B3 Berwick 9 Boneo 7 Carrum Downs 8 Dandenong 0. (Footnote. The scribe gets to play another week before retirement from winter baseball kicks in)
Congratulation to all the winners this week and commiserations to the vanquished. Talk to you next week.

Cheltenham had manager and a player thrown out of game after close play at 2nd base.

It was a close play, right up until the 2nd baseman dropped the ball and went fishing in the dirt for the ball. A definant case of unskilled labour displayed by runner, fielder and adjudicator. If the game wasn't close it would have been laughable, but in a high class game of A Grade ball the decision was inexcusable, due to poor positioning and giving the element of doubt no thought.

No offence taken Marshy, it was the best way of describing a sheer act of lunacy and being nice. IMO both charges shouldn't even make it to Thursday night.

perfeckt. I wouldn't call it justified anger. More like a quiet enquiry until ignorance set in. Answered the only way when you have your hand caught in the cookie jar, ejected for being correct. Then again, it wasn't all that great a day for the people in Blue/Black. Way to many mistakes. The ejection was far far from justified in both cases.

So what were the ejections for..abuse/dissent..both?

Probably dissent. It is covers all apparently. In actual fact dissent in any dictionary is a difference of opinion. That being the case, 3/4 of the players on Sunday should have been charged.

"Justified anger", after a series of bad calls, e.g.,(amongst others) foul strike on foot given out and a close call on a second base tag. "Justified ejection", 2 angry big men standing over an umpire and shouting after being told to stand down is rightly called as dissent and possibly abuse.

perfeckt, you must be a man of drama, 2 angry men, come on now. The runner was still in shock and said nothing andit was only David Clarkson and Janine Thompson having a chat about a ball on the ground. Blake wasn't tossed until he was sitting down in the dugout and that was by Craig Durdin. And of course David was standing over Janine. David is 6'2" in the old language and Janine lucky if she is 5'6" standing on a step ladder. And probably dissent will cover it as there was a difference of opinion. As OMR said. A case of unskilled labour lead to the ejections. Not once was there any shouting except for the final word from David and that was because Janine had turned her back and was shuffling away.

‘Re the meaning of dissent in the dictionary - it is more than just a difference of opinion, the dictionary also says it is the act of disagreeing or arguing or disputing.

mmmmJanine Thompson...that LITTLE chessnut...she has had a chip on her shoulder for that long, she would toss anyone who dared question her unquestionable umpiring abilities....The old saying, if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen....or even better, swallow 2 bags of concrete and harden the F%$k up....

janine Thompson is not the best umpire out there but she calls a fair zone which does not change thru the game and she has always got a smile on her face this winter baseball give her a break . any male standing over a 5 foot 6 girl and carrying on i say get a life

I'm not buying into who is a good umpire or not, and whilst I appreciate Tinmans sentiments, it is irrelevant if the umpire is male or female. The only extra consideration should be in beginning or very young umpires (green shirts), much as a manager would extend to his players. In my experience women players and officials do not want special treatment, and if it is given it would be an admission that they were seen as not able to do the job.

jrj, I congratulate you on being able to decipher a dictionary. In all honesty, dissent is the umpires and tribunals get out of jail card. If found not guilty of arguing, disputing anything, they can always fall back on that old favourite dissent. And as thesnout typed, dissent will cover all things that are found not guilty. So i would be expecting a guilty call, but it is only worth a reprimand. That really does apply for both cases. I suppose all will be unravelled tonight if it made it to the tribunal.

Hate to spoil the umpire/tribunal conspiracy theory, but dissent IS "arguing" If not, every manager would be ejected for telling an umpire they "blew the call' or "missed the tag" etc Every time a manager "comes out" it is to disagree either by question or comment..can't remember a manager coming out to tell an umpire he just made a great call! It's the continuation of the comments, especially when the umpire walks away to continue the game. Dissent has to be explained at a tribunal..i.e.exactly what was said.It is simply not true that a player or manager can be found not guilty of arguing, but guilty of dissent, unless it is non verbal dissent.e.g throwing a helmet, kicking dirt etc which is a different category.

Gidday people, The penultimate weekend has arrived. Let's give it crack and see what will come out of it.
A GRADE Cheltenham v Dandenong This should be a cracker of a game with not much between the two sides. The Rustlers have lost BC but regained Matty Blackmore. The Angels will be tough and pesky as they have a well rounded batting offence with a solid defence. I just feel that Chelt will comeout firing with both barrels to atone for last weeks brain fade. If you have nothing better to do over the weekend get down to Cheltenham for an extravaganza of baseball. My tip will be Chelt by a couple of runs. There won't be much in it. A2 Danenong v Cheltenham. Should be a close game with little between the two sides. I tip an upset and go for Cheltenham by 2 runs. A3 Berwick v Bonbeach. This will be a battle of endurance, and knowing the age of the Bluejays, I think collectectly about 49 average, I feel that the old heads will prevail by a couple of runs. A4 Dandenong v Bonbeach I do feel sorry for Bonbeach copping Dandenong after the streak was broken last week, A lot will depend on how the Pepper Quads come up, but i feel that Dandy will far too much fire power to let this one slip..For me Dandy by 3 to 6 runs.
B GRADE Boneo v Dandenong. Should be an corker this. It should really test the coaching abilities of the new Port Melbourne Coach, but I feel with the lack of Dimmy Power being available for the Great Wokka, Boneo with a well rounded side with strengths in offense and defence should be strong enough to hold Dandy out. It will be close, with Dandy giving nothing away but Cam and the boys should get away with a 2 to 4 run victory B2. Carrum Downs v Boneo. After Carrum Downs letting themselves down last week against Oakleigh it will be a test of character to redeem themselves. Boneo have been thereabouts all season and must go into this weeks game full of confidence after knocking of Pakky last week comprehensively. This scribe has looked into the magic ball and see Carrum Downs getting up by a coupe of runs. B3 Boneo v Carrum Downs. Boneo pushed Berwick last week to only go down by a couple of runs and should start favourite this week. Carrum Downs played at their top last week to blank Dandy and head into this game with confidence high. This will prove to be close game with the old heads from Boneo and Carrum Downs looking gto the end for a cold frothy. The scribe is looking for one week in the winter sun before the shutters come down. I will tip a draw. The result will be known about 3.05pm on Saturday.
All the best to all playing this weekend and may you all be winners. Talk to you later.
