Not only will Adelaide's Wayne Ough be playing for Technica Brno in the Czech Republic, he has now been elevated to the position of head coach.

Canberra's Mark McGuire has resigned...no wait, that's re-signed with the Camden Riversharks, who he played for briefly in 2011, while Adelaide reliever Derek Miramontes, who impressed for a majority of his outings in the ABL, has been picked up by the Wichita Wingnuts in the American Association.

Alex Maestri, the Brisbane Bandits ace from the most recent ABL season is trying his luck in Japan, having joined independent league team Kagawa Olive Guyners.
Teenager Jordan Dyer from Perth is joining Matt Kemp at the Mannheim Tornadoes.

The Melbourne Aces Hangar Boys practicing on the other side of the fence For those who dont know the Hangar group, many of who have never touched a baseball are signed up to play this winter for the first time ever. A great story!

Gidday johne! Love what you do for baseball, love the new dedicated baseball facility in Ringwood, I even don't mind Valhalla advert's on the forum (given tour support and sponsorship) but I've gotta say,,,,,,,lose the "meet local girls tonight' ad featuring a young teenage girl picture. I was censored once before from this forum for a critique of Valhalla, if it happens for this one.....see ya!

Is that the Forum's own Stuart Capel in the tunnel to the right? If it's a good swing KC then that's me. If it's a shocker then I've never seen the bloke before in my life.

It's just a google you tube ad, and it's based o your browsing history so everyone sees a different ad. So perfect, what exactly have you been looking at?

Do you know how i can I get to see the "meet local girls tonight" advert Puma. The wife is away so it might be handy. All I get to see is an advert for Logitech Keyboards :sad2:

I get an ad for Collingwood games on foxtel. Some might find that even more embarrassing than a meet teenage girls ad.

There was an ad' johne attached to the right hand side of the youtube clip that is now an ad' for Open University and a degree in Security and Counter terrorism so there goes your theory Puma. I just didn't think it was a good look for Valhalla nor this forum.

You realize neither I nor the "forum" control what advert you see right?
As puma has explained the add you get depends on your browsing history. You control what add you get.
Puma got chocolates, older got keyboards, I got football and you got girls.
I dont see how this reflects on Valhalla or the forum at all.

The boys are right, perfeckt.
The ads are Google-generated. They are not selected, pasted or linked in any way to the host website or the You-Tube clip.
What you might see is not necessarily what someone else sees. For example, next to johne's clip, I got National Australia Bank (maybe because I had just done a search on financial services, I don't know).
The BV website currently displays an ad on careers to me. Tomorrow it will be on travel or food or any other products or services with which I might (or might not) have been associated.
Yes, you can argue that it not right that the advert that you mentioned appeared next to the Valhalla clip. But it has nothing to do with Valhalla and it has nothing to do with this Forum.

all this aside all I wanted to do was show a video of some good blokes who were great supporters of the Aces this year having their first crack at playing.
I think the story of the hangar guys taking up playing is fantastic. Its a great thing for our game and we should be encouraging people to do it.

I agree with you johne and understand your intent, the "hangar guys" deserve to be acknowledged and applauded. I was a just annoyed to have an unsolicited advertisement that was getting a little too close for comfort in light of this forums members utter condemnation of the likes of Mr. Jarrett, the Baseball Digest and others. I think it's a salient reminder of the traps of modern media access and the passing on of that information often via a 3rd.,4th., party, ad infinitum. Sorry Hangar Boys, I didn't mean to take the shine off your achievements, good on you and thanx for the entertainment at "The Show" and Puma, the only counter I've been known to terrorize is at my local.

I can only recommend a session or two at Valhalla, perfekt - a brilliant setup.
I doubt the lads would take any umbrage from what you said (I got an ad for anz myself). The boys range from late 20s to late 30s and range from someone who played two years of juniors 20 years ago to one who came along just to see what his mate was going on about, enjoyed the game and kept on coming to the aces games for the rest of the season.
For the most though, they are baseball rookies. One did purchase a new cup (boasted that he got a large size), and was devastated when told he couldn't use it because it was for softball only and it was unsuitable for baseball use.

Back on ABL players moving to overseas pastures in the off-season, I understand Brisbane's Steve Chambers is trying his luck in the Industrial Leagues in Japan and has thrown OK in his early outings.

Pity to see Josh Spence optioned to the Tucson Padres. Hopefully he will be back in the bigs sooner rather than later.
Still some ABL guys getting call-ups to Spring Training, with Ryan Beckman (Adelaide) joining Pittsburgh, while Mychael Givens and Brenden Webb (both Perth) have joined Baltimore. Givens appearing against the Yankees today as a pinch runner and playing a touch at shortstop.
In regards the update on Steve Chambers before, he is with the Yamato Samurai Reds in the Kansai Independent League...and is finding the weather difference between Japan and sunny Queensland a challenge but is performing well so far.

Pity to see Josh Spence optioned to the Tucson Padres. Hopefully he will be back in the bigs sooner rather than later. According to www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/mar/16/stauffers-spring-struggles-continue/: "The Australian native also missed time this spring due to injuries and had worked only 1 2/3 innings over two games." So hopefully that just means he needs some work before he's ready, and so we can expect to see him back soon enough.

I don't claim to know totally about this but read on another website about similar players, that team start sending guys on their 40man down before March 20 (i think was the date) as after that date if you're injured you have to remain on the major league DL. Another is major league service time - so boarderline guys don't rack up to much major league time to soon to impact their arbitration eligibility coming up sooner than the club anticipated or wanted.

With the size of his rear he needed to walk!! ;-)
Trevor Caughey (former Ormond-Glenhuntly and Perth Heat) improved to 4-0 in Spain over the weekend, with a nine innings, thirteen K effort in his team's 2-1 win.
