Apparently, ACES General Manager Windsor Knox and Manager Phil Dale will be in studio on SEN radio at 5pm today (Monday 10th Jan). Number to call in on is 9429 1116 with any questions.
Wonder if anyone will ask them about the free hats promised to innaugral Aces members? Or perhaps why security guards are confiscating foul balls from little children in the crowd? Maybe even when game day competition winners can expect their prizes?

You really want your date with an ABL player don't you? ;D
Anybody noticed those Gridiron Victoria ads on ONE HD? Only short, but they are on pretty high rotation during relevant times (during all live and replayed games, MVP and NFL Total Access). A few of my mates who are more physically suited to that sport are actually taking it up. There are only 6 teams (7 if the Northern Raiders get accepted), so a comp like BV with ~ 30 teams should surely be able to get something similar up for next summer season?

Correct Huberfan - they had the ABL GM on Friday night, who advised that Fox will be televising the 'Championship series'...so Grand Final games.
They games will be played at 4pm so that there is enough light for TV. Apparently the lighting isn't good enough for a night game to be televised.

This is fantastic shame its not on OneHD would have been good for those that don't have paytv, but its a good thing its going to be shown on tv no matter what channel etc about time

I think it will be a dry run for the following season - I wouldn't be surprised if playoffs do get free to air coverage next season. Even if the ABL does not receive money for them being shown, it would be well worth it in exposure.

Just to let you know that should Perth win through to the grand final. The game will be played at 4:00pm WST - which means it will be on at 7:00pm EST..well that is the rumour anyway..

I just received an official communication e-mail from the ABF baffoons at HQ at 2.45AM this morning SATURDAY 12th advising me (the baseball public) that the Delta ABL grand finals are being shown live on Fox Sports TV sorry, HQ but you are just a tad late with your announcement - game one has already been played and won... I think even Aussia Post would have got to your audience on time better than you just tried...? Watched the game last night, and the coverage was pretty good. Commentary was good, camera work a little "slow" but that is in comparison to the extremely polished efforts by those in the states.
I also liked how the music that led into an out of ad breaks was the same as the MLB stuff.

All game...teams were listed the aussie way - home team first. score was always right. errors orginally swapped. and hits swapped all game! also not really a fan of kph! But all in all it was a great start!!!

My old man couldn't handle the teams around the wrong way, I didn't mind that so much, but yeah, not very baseball.
And it was MPH for the first part of the game and changed to KPH later. Good thing I have a converter on the iPod so I wasn't too lost! ;D
All these things are minor issues IMO, and as our media do more baseball games these things will be ironed out, and the product much more polished.
A more pressing issue might be the lack of grounds with suitable lighting for night games. My father, the cynical, conspiracy-theorist he is, reckons Perth having home-field advantage for the final series to be televised was orchestrated so that the bigger TV markets could view the games at a convenient timeslot. I like to think it was just lucky.

just noticed the ground attenandces so far in Perth - sure it is a GF series - BUT some 5,754 bums on seats over 2 x games - whereas at the Showgrounds, we could only manage 15k for the whole season (15x) shame on Melburnians - I thought WE were the sports mad capital? We've lost that crown?

Went to every home game at the show grounds. Saw each and every crowd there. I must confess that the crowd figures had me totally baffled. At one game it looked to me like we had, what to me appeared to be an almost full house, yet we only managed 1300+. Yet the next night we had demonstrably less people present yet the official crowd was larger! Unfortunately this seemed to have occurred on more than one occasion IMHO. Some real work needs to be put into accurate tabulation and record keeping of crowd attendance for next season, especially as so much stock is placed in crowd figures by the ABL management. However if the crowd figures are genuine, considering that it was said by some that the members were included in all attendance figures absent or not, then the Aces management have a real problem with the show grounds as their home ground. To be fair though I can only remember maybe two Fridays that were not affected by the weather. I guess they would consider Friday nights as the big crowd puller, so were badly done by in that regard. Sundays is the BIG PROBLEM and unfortunately showed what support the club had without the Local ball club supporters. Neil W PS. Up until the finals Perth actually was dead last in the attendance figures as supplied by the ABL and were only averaging about 800 for most of the season.

Pretty awesome Cam, very possibly in the wrong thread spot though, maybe the admins can move it to a new thread called "Great Summer media coverage 10/11" Fitzroy and in particular their media guy/s are incredible and have the sport covered on a nut, just sensational, leading the way in socially getting our sport to the masses, great congrats to you and all at the Lions baseball club, well done John and the support cast, see you all making a big difference in D1 next season

Expect more media coverage next year! Not that we'll get live network games all through the home and away season but in Melbourne at least I think there will be more "sports reports" in mainstream news in print, multi-media and broadcast television. Why? Well for a start the Aces played in a series that was televised to a potential ?0 million people and that's one of the main reasons MLBi are putting up the bucks for this experiment. Don't expect too much from the media next season as baseball still has to do battle with the established trad' sports but planned and clever marketing will certainly garner more on air time in between times. The fact that a bunch of Aussies have signed or re-signed is another bonus for our exposure and exposure is what it's all about. Exposure=advertising=mainstream media=new blood=sponsor $'s. I do know that more mainstream media that hold the reins have become aware of the streaming of regular season games and I know that here in Melbourne a few+ have been to some games in their own down time with their family or their mates, just as punters. That means to me that the baby steps approach by the ABL with a long term view could just be working fine.

Another impressive thing that happened this year was the availability of various players, managers, admin', signees, et al, to the media at large and often at oddball hours. ABL might be advised to look outside the box and support that approach of individuals and maybe schedule (for example) a clubs training session at say 9 or 10am or maybe a cross training session with the Victorian Vixens! Point being...whether or not broadcast media is driving internet based multi-media or...visa verce, internet broadcasting and consequentially the $ that follow is the future. Anyway....enough rant, I'm off to save the world one bottle at a time.
