Finally ABL/Aces get a mention in The Age, with the Sunday paper giving an entire page in the sports liftout to baseball - mostly to this article: www.theage.com.au/sport/let-the-show-begin-20101023-16yp8.htmlWith a picture of "Jason" Huber (they get his name right in the article) and James Beresford. Some exciting stuff in there too, including talk of a big-name Kansas City signing.

Just saw on the Aces website that there's a media launch at Fed' square on Thursday (this) where they will reveal the uniform and name the playing squad.

There was a brief documentary about Pete Moylan on Fox on Sunday morning. Detailed his story, how he reached the bigs. Was pretty interesting - hopefully the details re: the new ABL will stick with non-baseballers and get them interested.

Would also be good if they televise Game 1 of the World Series on the big screen this Thursday!

You're right phil', I just re-read it and it does say City Square (I forgot it was still there). Good Luck with the whole show! Looking forward to being shown to my members seat at the Aces first home game by the bikini clad usherettes at the Showgrounds. "Play Ball".

Great opportunity to fly the flag for baseball & the Aces tomorrow in the city. If you work in or near the CBD and can get along......well, the more the merrier. I can't ever remember baseball having a better opportunity to showcase the game in Melbourne. Sure we had great crowds and lots of excitement during the glory years of the Claxton Shield and the original ABL. But I can't remember having an opportunity to bring the game to the public, right in the centre of downtown Melbourne, at peak saturation lunch hour. nuts, we've been crying out for this opportunity for 100 years.......hopefully all baseball people that can make it will do so and bring your friends, work collegues, even people you don't like!! Hopefully we can collectively put a face to baseball and the Aces brand in a very convincing manner tomorrow.

So today is launch day Phil, and I was really pleased to see a guy at Parliament handing out flyers for the Aces, didn't manage to get one thou. Disappointingly there don't seem to be anything in the two rags, online anyway, about it. I have a group of us from the office that are going to head down but if it wasn't for me no one would know a thing about it. Has it been on the air waves? Is the roster going to be announced today?

Was a pretty good session braves6, 150-200 people present on a pearler of a day for anything baseball related.
Nicole Livingstone once again an outstanding MC, and spoke to (among others) Phil Dale, Peter Moylan (nice hat), James Beresford and Tom Scully (Melbourne Football Club player)
From the names I remember being read out (which was those players present), the roster includes...
James Beresford Matt Lawman Hunter Davis Brad Hertzler Brett Tamburrino Hayden Dingle Grant Karlsen Scott Wearne Andrew Russell Josh Davies Andy Tierney
And apologies to you if I missed your name and are reading this.
Peter Moylan did announce that he will be looking to play in January - and I think he'd be eyeing off the Adelaide and Perth home series and the Perth away series (his old stomping ground).
Full roster was said to be on website (isn't yet but will be soon I imagine) but seating arrengement for 'The Show' as our home ground will be known as is on the Aces site.
Out of interest, which dug-out is ours? 1st or 3rd base line.

I was thinking 1st baseline wouldve been ours with the members around it and the general admission being able to sit (sledge) down the 3rd baseline.

Normally home team sits on 3rd base - but can depend on the location.
Uniforms where not bad either - red tops with Aces on front, sleeves have blue rings around them. White or grey pants for home and away - cant remember which was which - white was home I think. Pants have a dark (think it was blue) strip down the side. Looked pretty good

The guys must have been spewing that the launch coincided with Game 1 of the World Series. Hope they found a pub afterward to watch the last few innings?

Knew I'd leave someone out TJ - that's what happens when you try to name everyone out of a group.
Much like the LA Lakers had a guy miss out on being announced as being past of the staff yesterday. His big smile turned into a look that you'd otherwise see on a beaten favourite.

Disappointed the launch didn't get a mention in the newspapers at all, might've got a few more people down there. Was a great day though, love the uniforms!

The Aces launch will hopefully get a bit of a run in online and print media over the next day or two, aussie22 - especially with the league launch happening simultaneously in Sydney. It was a pretty good occasion for the Aces franchise, particularly with minimal notice being received by some people (one of the sponsor reps told me that his company had only received a call late on Wednesday - which is unfortunate, but someone still made it on the day). MC Nicole Livingstone did an excellent job of observing the formalities and helping deliver some nice interview material - especially with Peter Moylan. There was a reasonable attendance by the baseball faithful, but more importantly the baseball "message" was put out there to passers-by and to people with maybe a casual interest in sport and/or baseball in particular. Work is in progress at the Showgrounds - under tight security - to have the facility up and running in time for the first home series in late November. A couple of names are still to be added to the 35-man roster, but it is clear now that we have a competitive squad, we have what will be an interesting and beautifully central venue and we seem to have an Aces management structure in place that is committed to taking the organisation forward. It will all happen very quickly now. People say that they have been hanging out for a new ABL for a long time. An Australian Baseball League is poised to take its first few fragile steps in terms of playing and supporter reality, despite the efforts of naysayers along the journey. These are exciting times for Aussie baseball. Let's get out there and embrace the ABL. Especially our own Aces!

The only mention I can find on-line is thru the Australian video.theaustralian.com.au/1626947817/Melbourne-acesNo mention made on the normal news services. Thought we would get a bit of time after the WS highlights. But no, nothing. Maybe its being saved for the late sports news.......

I'd call it a medium sized article. I thought it was quite well done, and put it up in the staff room. Can't wait until opening day!

Phil dale and the CEO are on the radio right now! Great coverage from SEN and get a feeling they are going to get some massive coverage from that station. Really putting the game out there for the masses! Francis Leach is a member and he'll be talking it up a lot. Really getting excited about the season coming up.

Stumbled on this interesting article that suggests that crowd size and membership numbers are not the focus this coming season Australian Baseball League wants to grow slowlywww.marketingmag.com.au/news/view/australian-baseball-league-wants-to-grow-slowly-2486There’s a new national baseball league starting in four weeks, have you heard? You probably haven’t. For a professional sports league, that would usually mean it’s going to fail. But the Australian Baseball League (ABL) has its sights set on natural growth, not on jumping out with a big bang.
