thewholetruth - mate, no, urgh, I really don't want to relive the gory details... in A-grade we were winless - the two 'wins' were from the 2 points you get from the Byes. We drew with bonbeach once. A2 won 4, A3 1. We have to pay the pickups unfortunately (and ceaselessly moisten their pockets with is a complete waste of energy), and as I'm sure you can understand that is counter productive (and we don't have the resources either). if you know of 7 A-graders (incl 2 pitchers) who want to change clubs, pay fees, buy their own uniforms, let me know, I'll keep us up! cheers mate mate u just need the right person. as an example a few years ago mulgrave appointed leo vivona as club coach. im sure his pockets were moistened slightly. leo bought a number of players and friends over to the club with him because he didnt just want to coach a divvy 3 team he wanted to coach a competitive div2 team that could push for div1. they are all still there now. and they all pay fees. dont chase a guy that will stay for 1 year and piss of to the next highest bidder. there are plenty of people around who see past the money and plenty who dont.

5 or 6 players missing from Monash's 1sts this year - 4 from the 2s. Even winning teams would struggle after that...
It'll be a struggle to get 3 teams competitive teams on the park in a B-Grade competition.
It wasn't like we struggled with one facet of the game last year either. We were 10-runned in nearly every game.
It would be nice if we had juniors...but we don't - our juniors are 18/19 yr olds who have never played before. It's unfair to them to put them in against guys of A1/2 or even 3 calibre.
Going B-Grade...barring a miracle...isn't soft - it is the only viable option for the club. Our numbers have dropped by 50% over the last 3 years due to the constant losing. The club will die unless we start winning a couple of games - new players don't have fun if they can't get hits, always get thrashed...
The decision to go to B-Grade isn't the soft option with the intention of winning an easy flag - I doubt we will make finals unless we get a couple of exchange students in Semester 2 to help us out. Really it is the hard option because we all want to stay in A-Grade, it just isn't an option right now.

Agree with you mate, good call, we couldn't quite find the right person this time around. I guess it's also an issue about what a given club stands for and wants to do. I'd say most of our members just want a fun game of baseball on the weekend. I think with us at this stage, it's not so much about pathways to higher divisions/higher playing levels. We have new people to baseball coming to the club every year, along with a few established baseball players from overseas. To be honest I don't think really mind whether we're in A-grade or B-grade...they just want to have a game.

What kids would you be talking about? Don't recall too many young blokes in their 2's or 3's last year. Unless of course ddd has changed his name to benjamin button?

Minimising for sure, but Dingley have a few great kids on the way, bonbeach and the Angels have a handful also.
