Get ready for an exodus of umpires following last nights meeting. BV want to employee umpires as casuals, therefor they would need to pay tax and declare their baseball income. So id like to say to the more mature umpires, thanks for your service over the years and i completely understand why you have to walk away from the game. BV has royaly fu$$ed you! Well done BV.
Lets see if i can improve on last week, some ripping games this week.
Melbourne @ Sunshine will be a ball tearer. Melbourne in a low scoring game. Blackburn @ Essendon. Essendon just. Moorabbin @ Fitzroy. Fitzroy at home in this one. Waverley @ Geelong. Waverley easy. Newport @ Cheltenham. Newport to touch up Cheltenham Upway @ Sandy. Upway in a tight one.

One assumes that there will be an announcement of some description relating to the umpires or are we to sit around with our collective thumbs up our collective a#$es and be misinformed or better still kept in the dark like mushrooms. But then again as a stakeholder, being misinformed and also being not told anything seems to be the norm for this most backward and incompentent administration. Is there going to be an announcement. Normally with something of this magnitude, there would be some sort of release to inform the stake holders. This really does p$$s me off. Rob Bowen

It seems well known that there has been an ongoing dispute between BV and the summer umpires, some of the details of which may have been misrepresented in the course of communications within the baseball community.
I believe that the dispute is moving towards a resolution. In the meantime, most importantly of all, our umpires will not be withdrawing their services for this weekend.

Bloody hell!! Two! Fricken Two!
Fitzroy got a flogging. Blackburn shutout Essendon and Geelong played like they were expected to play from round 1.
Love this game.

Well, it had to happen, here I am supporting the Umpires in a fashion when total chaos finally reigned it's ugly head with nobody knowing what the bloody rules are. The strike zone has now been reduced to the size of a matchbox. Either the rule book is wrong or completely out of date. The collision law at 2nd base, I have now seen two separate incidences with two completely different outcomes. Indecision over the result of said interference and finally an umpire that told me mid 1st innings that he has been instructed to have a tight zone, please explain to me what the hell tightening the zone mean. Because, the standard of umpiring is bordering on abysmal, and we pay for this abomination. It is obvious that the standard of umpiring is now reaching it's lowest ebb as the strike zone has now become a floating zone depending on how the umpires eyesight and capabilities are. Yesterday we nearly had a near riot with both pitchers getting totally frustrated with the zone that was on offer. It is about time that there is umpiring report sheets to be filled out by both Managers and maybe the feedback will improve the standard otherwise the same crappy mistakes and misinterpretations will continue to fester and someday create that riot. Don't worry about workcover just get the rules and interpretations right and I won't get two sore fingers typing this diatribe. I am not afraid to put my name to this and the Club I coach has nothing to do with piece of forum ranting.

You are in Div 3. Like i said in a previous post. The ranks dramatically thin out after Div 2

If you can't come up with a better answer don't answer at all. They can be made better if the training is better focused in what really happens instead if something that might happen. It is rather apparent the strike zone a personal choice rather than an understanding of the written rule. It is obvious that what is being taught is incorrect and should be reassessed . It isn't that hard.

Then step up to the plate and invest your time into the training and umpiring. You clearly know more about the game and the rules than the umpires so ill look forward to watching your umpire career progress to ABL within 6 months.

I don't think at 60 I will take on the Umpiring gig, The knees have had it and I don't think my demeanour would be accepted as an umpire. Better luck next time.
