Nth Balwyn were too good for my Penguins today. 11 to 3. Tyler Dale, Mitch Kennedy and Jeremy Young all pitched great. Not much went right for us today. We are looking forward to next Saturday so we can have another crack at booking a GF spot.

The first week of the DBA finals series has been done and dusted with some ripping games to start it all off. In A Grade we started with Frankston getting up in a thriller in the last inning over Mornington 7 to 6. In the second semi saw Dingley continue their dominance with a sturdy 7 to 2 victory over Dandenong. In A2 we had Dingley out hitting Cheltenham to win 11 to 6 and in the second semi saw a true pitchers duel with Dandenong edging Frankston to the tune of 2 to 1. In B1 in the first semi, Boneo just got over Chelsea 8 to 6. Dandenong had a hard fought second semi against Bonbeach to prevail 4 to 2. In B2 Bonbeach out hit Frankston in the first semi to win 8 to 2 and in the second semi Dandenong disposed Cheltenham to the tune of 9 to 1, but there could be protest happening. And finally in C1 Grade Upwey made short work of Chelsea to the sound of 13 to 4 and the second semi was a belter with Berwick prevailing over Dingley Blue 5m to 4. C2 Grade saw Upwey defeat Boneo 5 to nil and Chelsea squeak past Mornington 2 to nil. The Prelininary Finals will be held at Frankston next over the weekend. Good luck to all the sides.

I'm sure it's not easy but it is what it is. Wouldn't it be great if all coaches did this in a proactive and honest way. Cheers

If anyone is interested in reading some of (if not 'the') best analysis and commentary writing, in any league in Vicco or Oz, then you simply must check out DWB and his reports of Chelt' Rustlers DBA A2's winter season campaign. The latest was the description of their finals game last week. Always clever, honest and dare I say, poignant. A Rustler stalwart. Well worth reading in my humble opinion. Keep on keeping it fun Dan, we need more like you. Always entertaining, thanx.
If interested simply go to cheltenhambaseball.com.au
p.s.
My apologies for this public outing DWB (formerly known as) but I thought that your efforts and talent should be known and recognised. Once again thanx.

Deakin Blues are the A Grade premier in Geelong Baseball Association and Tayler Rowe is the toast of the harbour city after spearheading his side to a 4-1 win over Guild Lions with a superb complete-game outing. Guild stalwart Brad Egan conceded all four runs in the third but was typically heroic in recovering to also go the distance in an enthralling contest. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

The A grade prelim saw Heathmont beat Research 9 to 6. Harris and Wilson battled against Mackay and Bedford. The difference today was Hayden Dingle who finished with 3 hits, 4 RBI's and a run scored. It was a hard fought game with the lead swapping numerous times. We now look forward to taking on Nth Balwyn in the grand final next Saturday.

B Grade Prelim.: Waverley 6-5 over LaTrobe. LaTrobe jumped out early with 3 in the first and another in the second, but couldn't hold on.
B Reserves Grand Final: Melbourne Uni 12-1 over Waverley. Tight early, Uni put the foot down late in the game to put it away.

Wheelers hill had a great day sat winning both grand finals. D2 did it on the bit 15-3 vs Ringwood, with Matty Southo going 3-3(1hr, 2 dbls) 6 RBI....fair day....and the E grade team def forest hill fairly easily I think too. Couldn't hang around for that one I'm afraid. But many beers drunk, and great to see a few of the dandy boys out in support! Well done to them too on making a gf next week. Look forward to getting down to cheer clutch and youngy on! Go warriors!

Footscray took the C grade and C reserve grand finals. In two tight contest. The reserves got up 3-2, in a real pitchers dual. Lisa McLellan came up big with a 2 out rbi single that would prove to be the decisive blow. The C grade game was an extremely high quality affair, with Footscray wheeling out Tyler Comben and Port going with Aaron Petri, both of which through complete games. Port lead most of the game 3-1. But it took the dogs until the top of the last for their bats to come alive when they burst out for a 3 run dig. A clutch 2 run double from Cory Hart was the blow that gave Footscray the lead in the last, giving them the win.

Waiting for Dplay to put his post up but he must, have had the old RDO today. DBA A Grade: Pitchers duel with Nick Veale going 8 for the Tomatoes, Mark Surtees 7, Matt Young 1 and Jayson Arthur 1 to finish for the Angels. Angels getting over the Tomatoes in a ball breaker. Great pitching, great hitting = great game. 6-4 final score. Angels scoring 4 runs in Bot 8 to hit the front.
A2 Fankston beat Dingley, young Dingley team gave it a shot early but the Tomatoes hit all day. Young kid Skinner (Marshall's boy) had a day from what I'm told.
Dplay can fill you in on the rest. Congrats to Frankston Baseball Club on a great weekend.

Congrats to Frankston Baseball Club on a great weekend. Following up on Titta's report of Sunday DBA Preliminary Finals Results - Saturday C2 - Chelsea Defeated Boneo 13 - 10, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 5th to break a 10 all tie. The final 3 outs were made and the Dolphins go one step further this year, facing off against the Top of the Ladder Upwey team next Saturday at 11:45am at Dingley Baseball CLub on Diamond 2 B2 - Cheltenham defeated Bonbeach 8 -7, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to take the win. The Dandenong / Cheltenham rivalry of maybe the last 6 or 7 years continues next week on Saturday at 11:45am at Dingley Baseball Club on Diamond 1. C1 - Dingley Blue defeated Upwey Tigers in a tight tussle all day. Upwey jumped early and scored 5 runs in the 2nd. 3 scoreless innings and then in the bottom of the 6th, Dingley exploded for 8 runs to take a 9 -5 lead. Upwey responded in the top of the 7th with 4 to tie the game up at 9 All. Dingley threatened in the bottom of the 7th, but smart heads up play from Upwey nullified the threat. A scoreless away innings for Upwey and Dingley into bat in the bottom of the 8th. Dingley put the first runner on and got him to 3rd on smart baseball. Then one of the nasiest bounces ever seen, ground ball up third base line looked like going foul and kicked up and over the head of the dingley runner and they scored and it was game over. Dingley head into yet another rematch with Berwick for the C1 Flag. Game time is next Saturday at 2:30pm on Diamond 2 at Dingley B1 - Bonbeach defeated Boneo 16 - 6. Boneo jumped early and scored 4 and Bonbeach pegged those 4 back the next innings and then scored another 4, then 5 and then 3 to take a commanding 16 - 6 lead. A completed game by John Halse for Bonbeach sees a rematch of the Semi final between Dandenong and Bonbeach next saturday at Dingley on Diamond 1 at 2:30pm

Congratulations to Matty and the Heathmont Baseball Club! And of course to all winners, in all grades.
Four in a row is fantastic going at any level of baseball. Another A Grade win in 2017 would equal the MWBL record of five, set by Bundoora back in the eighties.

Sorry to correct you kc mate but Research took the flag last year. Still, 4 from 5 ain't a bad record. It just means they'll have to wait until 2018 before they claim that record and 2019 to set a new one.

No wait......I'm getting ahead of myself here. Just a little excited. 5 more to go to set a new record but I'll make sure I'm at the GF in 2020 when they equal the MWBL record winning streak!

Well done to Matty and his team, taking out the MWBL A Grade GF. Noticed something out of the norm during NB infield/outfield routine, the Heathmont pitcher warming up between the 2nd baseman and right fielder. I know what I would be doing if I was the opposing coach hitting pre game routine.

DBA Senior Grand Finals – Saturday 3rd September 2016
Well what can I say.
We started the day with the C2 Upwey V Chelsea and B2 Dandenong V Cheltenham games as the dew kickers at 11:45am
The C2 Game started with Chelsea scoring 3 runs to set the tone for the day. Upwey responded with 2 in the bottom of the first to gain some momentum. An up and down game, with Chelsea pushing the lead out to 6 – 2 and in the bottom of the 4th, Upwey responded to get the game down to a 6 – 5 game. With 15 mins to go, and Chelsea batting, Upwey managed to shut down the offense and into the bottom of the 5th and requiring to score 2 runs to win the game. Upwey surrended the first 2 outs and where down to their final out. 2 very quick hits and the winning runs were posted to win the game 7 – 6 Congratulations to both the Chelsea and Upwey baseball clubs for a high quality final
The B2 game started with a bang with Cheltenham jumping out to a 5 run lead. Dandenong fought back slowly over the next four innings. Earle Byrne held Cheltenham to no runs, however Dandenong could not get on top of Tatsuya, or Lachie Bourke and finally Patty O’Neal. Dandy threatened in the last, however Cheltenham hung onto the game to take the game out 5 -4 Congratulations to both the Dandenong and Cheltenham baseball clubs for a high quality final.
The C1 game between Berwick and Dingley Blue saw the Dingley club score 5 runs over the first two innings and Berwick contributing the solitary run, however baseball was the deciding factor for the day. Both teams hit the ball and once again it came down the final innings with Dingley holding a 8 to 5 lead. Berwick were not to be outdone, and for the third consecutive game, piled on 4 runs to take the lead and the game 9 – 8. Congratulations to both the Dingley and Berwick baseball clubs for a high quality final.
The fourth and final game for the day was the B1 clash between Bonbeach and Dandenong. Once again a tight tussle ensured. However a telling 6th innings, where Bonbeach plated 6 runs and a turning point in the game where the young Centre fielder for Dandenong appeared to injure his knee while throwing the ball. From there Bonbeach scored another 4 runs to take and 11 – 7 lead going into the 9th inning. However Dandenong had other thoughts. Dandenong scored 3 runs and the score was 11-10. Joel Stubbs up to bat and a hit to right field saw the fielder throw the ball home in an attempt to stop the runner from 2nd scoring. The Base runner for Dandenong rounded third and on his way home to score, was held up in and while trying to get back to third base, the Bonbeach catcher threw the ball up the line and the tag was made and the final out given. Final score being 11 – 10 to Bonbeach.
In my time with this association I have never seem four grand finals all decided by 1 run, with two wins coming in the last innings and almost at time a game.
Congratulations to the winning teams today, and commiserations to all of the teams that came 2nd best.
One more day to go, with 3 Grand Finals to be decided.
From 11:30am we have the A2 and Womens Grand Finals
And 2:15 we have the A1 Grand Final
Can Dandenong break the 52 year hoodoo, or can Grant Irving and his bunch of merry men spoil the Angel party
Get out to Dingley tomorrow to see the DBA close out the 2016 Winter Season

I am very proud of my Heathmont Penguins baseball club with winning the A grade 2016 premiership. Nth Balwyn are a fantastic young team who will be up the pointy end of the ladder for many years. Nathan Harris pitched the game of his life throwing all 9 innings. Matty Wilson and Chris Nicholas hit home runs. Everyone in our lineup had great at bats. Our defence was solid with the standouts being the outfielders who tracked down everything. The final score was 6 to 0 in front of a great crowd. 4 premierships in 5 years!

DBA Grand Finals – Sunday 4th September First of all, Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads in our league.
Day 2 of the DBA finals see 5 clubs converge on the Dingley Baseball and Softball Club
11:30AM Dingley Diamond 2 – Berwick Dodgers verses Melbourne University in the DBA Womens comp. Melbourne Uni got a great start to the game and proceeded to take the lead out to 6 runs, However Berwick were not to be denied and worked their way back into the game. Melbourne Uni then Berwick fought back scoring another 6 runs to take the lead and the game 12 -11.
Our womens competition is growing stronger every year. Congratulations to the Berwick club on taking out the Womens competition this year.
11:30AM Dingley Diamond 1 – Dandenong V Frankston. The game started quickly for the Frankston cluib scoring 6 runs over the first three innings while Scott Baillie (with his 57 different pitches) keeping the Dandenong club scoreless. In what was a close couple of innings, Dandenong clawed one run back to bring the score back to 6 – 1. Frankston slammed the door shut in the top of the 6th adding another run and then Buzz shut down the Dandenong offence to record a Three peat for the Frankston Club.
Congratulations to the Frankston Tomatoes on the three peat
We are now at the Main Game. Will the Angels destroy the 52year hoodoo or will Grant Irving and his young charges extend. Dandenong opened the scoring with a run in the second. Mark Surtees, being the ever consummate professional kept the Dingley hitters off guard with a variety of pitches in and around the strike zone. The most telling innings of the entire game was the fourth innings where Dandenong plated 7 runs, including a monster home run to Caleb Poole (which hit half way up the tree at right field). Constant hitting all day put more runs across the board. In the bottom of the 5th, Dingley struck back with 2 runs, however Dandenong responded in the 6th and 7th innings plating 3 and 4 runs respectively. Taking the score out to 15 -2. Dingley scored one last run, With David Clarkson bringing Mark out of the game, the final two outs were left up to Mathew Young, who on 2 pitches induced a game ending double play and the 52 year drought was over.
Congratulations to both clubs on making the Grand Final and especially to the Dandenong club on breaking the 52 year drought.
Geez its been a long time between drinks..

52 years wow! Well done Clarko and the guys.
Nate Harris threw one of the best Grand Final games ever. Complete game 2 hits 1 walk shut out. He took the no hitter into the 6th and didnt allow a runner past 2nd base.
Not bad for a guy who has never in his whole career thrown more than 6 innings in an outing.

Johne I know it's not your decision so maybe Mattyg can chip in - do you believe Heathmont will look to have an import again next season? I'm not having a go, just interested in whether this is a long term plan and whether winter is becoming more serious. Heathmont has shown you can win without one so maybe just an interim spot? I understand Nate will be here for Blackburn this summer too.
