With talk this year of alterations to the competition structure this article seems very timely.
It is dated Saturday the 12th of February 1938
NEW BASEBALL PLAN
Association Proposals
For the purpose of encouraging the formation of new clubs, the Victorian Baseball Association has under consideration the adoption of a district plan to provide cheaper baseball for Juniors and inner country clubs.
The plan provides for the establishment of district competitions, and the subsequent lessening of travelling expenses. The senior grades of the league and metropolitan divisions will remain unaltered, but the Junior national divisions may be absorbed In the district system.
The districts will comprise the following areas:-Northern - Essendon, Brunswick, Coburg, Northcote, Preston, Heidelberg, to Broadmeadows. Southern - Brighton, Caulfield, Oakleigh, Dandenong, Moorabbin, Chelsea. Eastern - Prahran, Malvern, Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell, Doncaster, Box Hill, Blackburn, Mitcham. Western - Footscray, Geelong, Williamstown, Port Melbourne, Braybrook, Werribee.
Existing divisions of the association will not be affected by the district plan, but any club desiring to do so may Join a local section In the district.
A new financial system is also under consideration. Its purpose being to lessen the expenses of Junior clubs, without increasing the levy on senior clubs.
