Those taking a closer look while the Aussie Baseball Forum was recently undergoing a change in format might have noted an interesting statistic at the bottom of the front page.
The Forum turns five years old towards the end of June 2013.
Who would have thunk it?
Embraced by some, despised by others, feared by a few and ignored by plenty (so they will say), the Aussie Baseball Forum continues to provide a voice for grassroots baseball people in offering an online vehicle through which to make comment – or simply to vent - on the spectrum of related matters at home and abroad.
Despite sometimes sailing close to the wind, the Forum has become largely self-regulating, with members generally aware of how far they can reasonably go in making comment that may unfairly – or adversely - reflect upon individuals or organisations within the sport.
Moderators are confident that the Forum has been a positive force in the Australian baseball landscape – especially in Victoria.
Yes, we have endured our share of negative, sometimes ill-informed and occasionally offensive comment, although far less than has become the unfortunate norm in social media commentary on all manner of other matters as people assume a role as de facto publishers without understanding the responsibility that comes with that.
We are convinced that the Aussie Baseball Forum has done far more good than harm in breaking news, keeping people informed, generating interest and in engaging members in worthwhile discussion – and impassioned argument - on often controversial and challenging matters at local, state and national baseball level.
