With only a few weeks remaining before the senior championships in Geelong, is there any news?? - How many teams are entered? I assume the usual suspects in Geelong, Ringwood, Dandenong, City, La Trobe, Sunraysia, North East and Bendigo will be putting teams in, but who else? Will Mount Gambier make the trip again? Will DV rise from the ashes?? - Any big names likely to head down for the weekend? Especially with guys like Huber and Bubbie playing winter ball, could be interesting to see them at the championships. - Any early predictions? Ringwood and Dandy were 1 and 2 last year, are they likely to be again? Sunraysia has dominated Div 2 over the last few years and are they ready to push up at Div1 1? Certainly looking forward to some good baseball over the long weekend and hoping Geelong turns on the sunshine!!!

Well the week is upon us, but what has happened with the Draw?? First of all 2 groups were put up on the BV website, with group 1 being Dandenong, Diamond Valley, Bendigo and Latrobe and group 2 Geelong, City, Ringwood and Sunraysia. Now the draw for group 2 has been taken down....why is that?? Has there been a change to the teams? As I noticed the both Mt Gambier and North East werent listed, have they put in a late entry?
Either way, hoping the weather is good for the long weekend!!!

Yes, bushman, the excitement is building for the Winter Championship and it looks like the weather may even treat us kindly. I believe that North-Eastern may be a late and very welcome entry that might have caused a revamp of the draw posted earlier. Other teams entered will be from Diamond Valley (returning this year), Ringwood (last year's Division One winner), Sunraysia (Division Two champion last time), City, Latrobe Valley, Bendigo, Geelong and Dandenong. Ballarat has not entered and Mount Gambier seems doubtful, making it nine teams overall - though I can stand corrected on that. A Series Preview will be posted on Geelong Baseball Association and on Baseball Victoria websites hopefully during Tuesday (pending availability of a draw from BV). To help with preparation of the preview, I invite leagues to message me with team lists, officials and any items of interest that might be included. Email to kcollins@iprimus.com.au or movfin@excite.comBest wishes to all participating players and associations for the 2013 Winter Championship.

Great to see David Dicker involved and leading the boys in Geelong. Best of luck to the Diamond Valley squad and all the teams over the weekend.

Perfect weather at Geelong Baseball Centre for the first day of the tournament. Diamond Valley, Dandenong, Ringwood and Geelong all looking pretty good for a tilt at the Division One title. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

What a great weekend of baseball hosted by a very organised baseball community. No issues no fus just a wonderful tournament. We need to make sure that we continue to encourage and support this long running baseball weekend that brings so many players together from all over the state. Well done to all concerned.
