As some of you will no doubt be aware, after a good deal of work, we have managed to source a Provider for a Government Funded Baseball Scholarship.
The Scholarship is open to 40 young people (boys and girls) and consists of one nights schooling per week for 30 weeks along with several full day sessions during the School Holidays. Apart from a $95 Registration Fee the entire program will be Government Funded.
The 3 hour sessions are split with 90 minutes theory and 90 minutes practical work.
The Course will be conducted by Accredited Educators and cover things like fitness and strength training, nutrition, sports administration, etc. We see them as a great tool to prepare youngsters for possible futures in College Baseball, Professional Baseball and/or local Sports Administration.
We asked Baseball Victoria would they be willing to circulate the details of the Scholarship Program to their Mailing List but in their wisdom they refused to do so as they believed it would be a "direct conflict" with their AFL Sports Ready Program (despite the fact they don't run at the same time or target the same kids)
Without Baseball Victoria's assistance in letting the Baseball Community know about this Program, I fear this initiative will not proceed and another opportunity to advance Baseball in this State will be lost. I would ask that any Forum Members who know of any young people, 15 years of age and older, that might be interested in this Program, give them our Contact details and we will be delighted to provide them with all relevant information.
This program is great opportunity to keep kids in school, help them get their vce and improve their baseball.
