Week 1 kicks off for most this week (obviously Greensy & GMBC are the exception)... Where's The Jack with his predictions? Or Stuey Capel with his weekly preview of the Dirty Beer League? :fishing:

Sorry Lando, im too busy being the best man at a wedding tomorrow. As you can tell, given the date chosen is opening day for winter, he is someone who no longer plays winter baseball!
Good luck to all who start their seasons tomorrow.

Fascinating match-up t/row in B Grade VWBL with the Dave Moloney (Adam Lawsonless - who went to Bundoora) Nth Coburg Rebels up against the Bubbie (Essendon) Bombers where Bubbie may have one eye on the game and the other on some of his crew for next Summer perhaps.
Should be a great game - the Rebels look solid again this year but how many runs will they score vs Bubbie and what can they keep the Bomber offence too ?
I could be wrong but it seems like there may be a few extra Umpires slated this weekend too compared to last year with a couple more in the wings - good news !

GBA starts up on Saturday with a full round of senior games.
Corio and Werribee have come up to create a nine-team A Grade competition. Ten in A Reserve and nine in both B Grade and C Grade to retain the same overall total as last season.

Wanted to mention a great game that was played today in DBA C2. I umpired the game, Berwick v Dandenong, Berwick getting the win. But it was an 8 inning game over 2 hours, Mick Wearne v Theo Rutgers, a great sight to see both of the veterans going 8 each, only 2 walks. And some good little juniors playing for each team. A great game played in good spirit.

MWBL A1 game at Heathmont Reserve saw the Penguins win their winter campaign opener with a 3 run walk-off bomb against Watsonia Saints. 6-3 to the reigning Premiers.

Theo is amazing Simone- he was nearly our best hitter up at Ballarat at the Masters - very inspirational for a 98 years old - ha ha !
The NthCob Rebels Vs Ess Bombers B Grade game lived up to expectation with Bubby going the distance but getting the loss and NickD and DaveM combining for the 2-1 win in a tight and fiesty game late with some good old fashioned tension between two 'gamers' in Dave and Bubbie with a shake of the hand straight after the game.
Great game with lots of highlights, Bubbie carried the young Bombers on his back with bat and ball but in the end it was a triple over the head of right field late and a mucked up cut-off play to 3rd that saw us score the winning run.
Us in the 2's (BRes) had a 12-0 win over a young Essendon side and our 3s had a good win over Northcote I believe.

Forest Hill had a good day at Billabong Park with the 1s, 2s, 3s & 4s all getting up and our 5ths going down by a small margin.

With both clubs returning to A Grade, Werribee got up 4-3 over Corio in the bottom of the last in the GBA this afternoon. Guild made it clear that it will again be a force to be reckoned with in its 15-2 result over Saints. Lara cruised to an 11-4 result over Deakin, while Bellarine plays host to Bacchus Marsh on Sunday. Ballarat Brewers had the bye. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

The crowds flocked to Wallington Reserve on Sunday afternoon to see two of Australia's very best players in action for Bacchus Marsh, who downed a gallant Bellarine 4-3 in a GBA clash of real quality. Shane Lindsay closed out the game with two scoreless innings for the Marsh, while Adam Bright (playing under dual registration with MWBL) enjoyed a day out with the stick with two hits (including a solo shot) for three of his side's RBIs. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

First game of season in the Bendigo comp as well today.
First off Scots took down Bendigo East 28-0 or 28-1, not 100% sure of which. Scots have some young guys coming through who can play, and will certainly be an improvement from last year, after having been on the opposite end of these results in past years. East on the other hand have lost 3 or 4 from last years side, and only had 2 of their regulars playing today due to weddings and injuries. So the lopsided result may not be accurate going forward.
In the other game Dodgers controlled their game all the way to an 11-3 (again not 100% sure) win over a lackluster Falcons side. Dodgers have kept their team from last years grand final almost intact, losing only 1, and playing a very solid all round game behind one of their young pitches followed by their ace to lock it down. For the Falcons, after losing 4 from last season as well as 1 to injury today, never looked in the game. Errors in the field and poor at-bats did not help their cause, however with a few new faces in their lineup they will likely settle as the season progresses.
However, for now it certainly looks like this season will progress very differently than in the past, but certainly looking forward to a year where every game is up for grabs.

Kudo's to the Bacchus Marsh coach ( a well credentialed pitcher) in offering advice to the opposing coach about how the young Bellerine pitcher might be able to improve his pitching technique. Good to see that it is not always about 'sheep stations'.
