Wow!!! I've just read Baseball Victoria's Summer League proposals that have been put to Vic' baseball clubs for 2013/14, that in effect draw in winter clubs as well. It is attributed to Brett Hidson by way of the Summer League Committee. On the surface and on a first read I cannot recall a proposed overhaul of this magnitude with such public openess. B.V. seem to have listened to and taken into account the concerns of the many committed and passionate club people that only want the best for baseball. In particular, Victorian baseball. If we are truly committed to our clubs and the future of Victorian amateur baseball at all levels and designations, then now is the time to take it beyond this forum and to our club committee's. Now! Like what they are suggesting or not, they (Baseball Vic) are actively seeking our voice. Bravo.

Good call, perfeckt. As someone with summer access to the BV website I was asked about this today - in particular where people could locate the mooted proposals/restructure. Baseball Victoria has posted an overview on its website. The detail and proposals have been forwarded to club administrations, with a deadline for comment/feedback being around the end of April I believe. Clubs should avail themselves of the opportunity to discuss the matters arising from the Discussion Paper and to provide comment by the deadline specified. www.aussiebaseball.net/index.cgi?action=downloadattachmentpage&board=bvcompetitions&thread=3473&post=55183

After reading the competition structure report and what could be implemented you have to say that BV is on the right track. The Premier League state wide on Saturdays and having the minor division teams local to each other and more even play on Sundays is a great way to go and with all the divisions should help stop there being a lot of blowout scorelines in the lower divisions which nobody enjoys.
Personally I hope the rain/heat out rule goes back to having the games replayed and can keep a balanced schedule. Having only the Premier League game on a Saturday would make a double header easier to play any cancelled games next time for when the 2 teams meet again.

I am intrigued oj. How will playing teams locally stop blowouts? In fact with 16 teams in the top division I would think this is where there will be many blowouts. Again, if all major league is played on saturdays and the rest play on sunday, where and when do the WOMENS leagues play? The vision is also a concern. 15000 by 2015! At the moment they say we have 4534 baseballers. This means a 3 fold increase in 2 or 3 years! Can your club triple in size in 3 years? Not enough grounds to begin with. BV struggles to administor what teams we have now without adding 10,000 more names.

Its not so much playing local will change results, I stated that, it was a positive move I thought. Most clubs depths, age and skill demographics are all different and varying and this looks like BV's aim to even that out and get teams on the same level playing in the same leagues closer to home.
Having blowouts in the top league are a different story. If you are getting thumped every week in the top league, then you probably aren't ready and shouldn't be there. Its more the uneven matchups down in 3s & 4s last season that don't keep guys coming back.
Would figure the Women's League would play before the Men. Not that hard to do I would have thought seeing as though there is only scheduled Men's league for the Saturday.
