I've been trying to find out Award winners of various categories from last Friday nights shindig and have been unable to find any thing on BV's or MSBL's web-sites. Does any one have any info ? I do understand that BV have been under the pump this last week but I would have thought that all nominees, winners, inductees, etc., were set in stone well before Friday night. Online documents could have been prepared and the 'send button' hit after the official night's conclusion at least by the end of the following Monday. C'mon Baseball Vic., keep us engaged. I'm sure local newspapers would love to report on a local home town hero if they had access to that info and every day further from the event reduces the interest level greatly. Or am I just being a bit precious? :champ:

Interesting to note that Adam Rowe won both the pitching and hitting awards for Div 2 and didn't win the MVP?? Go figure. If there was an award for noisiest table while awards and speeches were on would have been won easily by the newest club. Not the best way to represent yourselves.

Not dissing the winner of the div 2 award, but a record of 6-6 and batting .150 odd doesn't seem right. Rowe maybe came in too late to win, but surely the numbers don't lie.

You can always ask for a re-count, Wyatt.

Because clearly you think Blevins didn't deserve to win. As you said, "surely the numbers don't lie"
However, he's a little scenario to help you on your way.
Player A pitches one week, throws a shut-out, strikes out 15 and gets four knocks. Three votes, no question. The week after, he throws three innings in relief, gives up a run and goes 1-4. His team loses. He doesn't get in the votes.
Player B throws back to back games of 9 innings, but loses one 3-2 and one 4-3, giving up just two earned runs in the process. He gets two votes both times.
Now, arguably the best performance over the games was from Player A in that first game, and he was rewarded with the votes for it, but Player B was ahead after the two games due to his consistency.
The Brownlow Medal doesn't necessarily go to a player who finished in the top team at the end of twenty-two rounds. Nor does it go to the player who had the most kicks and handballs or most goals. If the MVP award was all about pure numbers, then Testa would have won the MVP from Josh Davies, however the coaches sat down and with their internal criterion adjudged Davies as the Aces MVP...same way at the end of the day the umpires, when all their votes were tallied, adjudged a winner of the Division Two medal.
As I understand it, there was a vote between first and second, and a vote between second and third. If the season were a week longer or shorter, maybe things would have been different...

Thanx stuartcapel for the enlightening scenario, I never would have thought of that at all and never would have thought about it if not for wyatt33 and his question. I learned something today because of the both of you.

Like I said, Rowe probably showed up too late.

Blevins arrived a week after Rowe and both were fantastic acquisitions for their clubs

Some interesting stats, can someone clarify how some of the awards are determined, obviously they are not going on stats in some cases?

rightie, Port Melbourne played Springvale in Rd 4 and beat them, with Blevins closing the game for Springvale.
2 weeks later we played Fitzroy, and that was Rowe's first game back in Victoria.
Both very handy players, but personally, I'm surprised Rowe didn't win MVP. The guy is the best hitter in Div 2, and the best pitcher in Div 2; but isn't the Most Valuable Player? No disrespect meant by asking the question, but how does that work?!
