Given the importance of the role it is an exceptionally short time frame for applications.
Do we read into that perhaps BV already have someone for the role? Only hope mail I had immediately after Brett's resignation in relation to Windsor Knox's "interest" in the job is off the money.

Please ...... say it aint so Reg ! I agree the timespan tells one its 'over the line' perhaps OR they are rushing it (and why would you ?).
Looks like App's close on the following Tuesday KC but I presume there may not be mail deliveries from the Friday to the Monday or Tuesday though so perhaps it is effecvtively the Friday prior (next Friday) for mail apps ?

this process will be very interesting, the last application process was a fait a complete with a less than satisfactory outcome for both longevity and results. Lets see what the board brings to the table this time

What's the pay like?[/quote My understanding is around 90k package, which includes super but don't know if car is part of that figure or extra. In any event, it is not the sort of money that is going to attract someone with the credentials the job spec calls for.

Best get your applications in quick - we've seen how slow the mail can be with BV in recent times! ;D

Going on previous process - the $ is more around the S100k. Although BV might have only got about 3 years out of Brett - that is probably industry average in such a position.
But if you are expecting them to get someone with baseball knowledge and heart for the game - forget it - BV board will pull the conflick of interest line (no participation in the game during this job).

The board seems to be getting in the way of what is best for Baseball In Victoria, what have they acheived since they came on board.
Who would be the ideal applicant

someone suggested Peter Dhim, little bit out of the box but brings a lot of knowledge running a big group. at the moment to many people not take responsibility for everyday issues. you gotta be hands on with this sort of league as there not enough actual workers with experience.

An understanding of the game is important, as is the need to put in place realisitic goals that will see the betterment of the game at all levels.
BUT it really isnt rocket science, you just need to have an understanding on the financials, the political landscape and (importantly) have the right people around you advising/assisting you that are predominatly interested in the broad best interests of the game.
Knowing who those people are takes a little research, a bit of time and a fair bit of trust.

Great idea Skinny. Never happen though, Frita has too much common sense about how baseball should be run to ever get appointed. And what would he do with $100k a year.....

Usually advertising a role for a very short timeframe is a clear indication someone is ear marked for the role already. I had a look at the JD and the calibre of candidate they've advertised for and the $$$ they are offering (based on the above) don't align at all unless its a part time role. Either that or they're hoping their preferred candidate either doesnt need the dollars they're worth or are doing it for the love of the game.

Could start a book, but I am tipping a non baseball person to get the job so that this grand plan can be shoved through. My gut feeling is a person of little baseball knowledge coupled with a the ability to be manipulated.

That's a bit harsh OMR isn't it? Give them half a chance! It's a plan - you need to start with something or you are planning to fail.

In a different post I did mention that the plan could work if small steps are taken. I just have a feeling that if a true baseball person is appointed the gaping holes and lack of given information will be detected and probably nothing will get done in the short term future. Maybe I am being a bit cynical and tongue in cheek. But as I have mentioned, a little tweak here and there will be an improvement and atleast show the baseball populus that something is being done to improve the quality of the competition.

First of all, best wishes to Brett (and family) on his future endeavours, wherever they might lead him.
I don't think that we should read anything much into the short time frame on CEO applications. BV will be (as it should be) in no hurry to make an appointment. I think we can expect an interim CEO to be nominated and a final decision not to be made for some time yet.
Let's keep in mind that the successful applicant is likely to need time to organise his or her own affairs (such as giving notice to a current employer, negotiating business arrangements or relocating from interstate or overseas if necessary).
While any of the applicants getting to interview would be expected to have knowledge and some understanding of restructure proposals, strictly speaking he or she would not be directly responsible for implementation of any changes.
That would surely come down to the Summer Committee (or Pennant Committee).

Kc, the only real question that I do have is that if we have all these committees, who actually makes a decision about all baseball matters. Is the competition guided by BV or guided by the volunteer committees. If it is the volunteer committees, there is a super oppurtunity for Victorian Baseball in general to save a lot of money, or are we being guided by the people who are paid to run Baseball in Victoria. The Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association has one paid official who runs the day to day running of the association with the Board coming from elected volunteers. The MPCA is a far bigger organization than BV but seems to be run a heck of lot better for a heck of a lot less cost. So my question is, Who decides the direction that baseball in Victoria takes?

Those are very good and valid questions, OMR.
My comment about structural changes is based on what seems to be the focus of the Position Description (below). The emphasis seems to be very much on management, business acumen, marketing and growth. Being "the face of the organisation" implies a certain up-front management style that is being sought, rather than someone who will purely handle the day-today running of the organisation.
While there will always be overlap, with the CEO perhaps leading or inspiring changes to competition structure among other duties, I would expect that the Board, committee and clubs would continue to drive policy and structural changes.
"Based in South Melbourne and reporting to the Board of Directors, you will need to be a dynamic and energetic leader, with a heavy strategic and commercial focus. You will develop strong relationships, leverage marketing and promotional opportunities, and welcome being the face of our organisation. You will have extensive experience in managing and controlling organisational budgets across all departments, and will need to demonstrate a successful track record in managing and growing like-sized businesses."

Reading that KC, what BV is asking for is a Marketing Manager with a business diploma and no Baseball acumen. So judging by that job description, the SLC will be guiding the revamp.

huh? The "heavy strategic" doesn't imply that the CEO would need to be able to setup the strategy for the competition?
BV will be responsible for the implementation of the structure of the league. There is no other way about it. They are the only office with year-to-year continuity. Between the Board and the CEO's office. You can't revamp and entire league based on volunteers and committees.
Hasn't Brett already made reference to it being his thought process that has got the plan this far? Realistically, the change isn't going to happen this year. I see no possible way for the process to be completed and running successfully before the next summer season. There should be no way they push through a half-ar$ed approach either. The new CEO will need to get on board and review the structure, which takes time.

Stockley, if BV is responsible for the implementation of the league structure, what does the SLC and the Board do then. So now Baseball in Victoria is now run by 1. A CEO, 2. A person who looks after getting the draw done and 3. A Receptionist.. So on your analogy, only the paid incumbents will implement this strategy seeing as how the Board and committees are all volunteers.

no new CEO for at least 2-3 months is what I think. the process of interviews has probably not even started.

BV is responsible for the strategy and direction of the sport in the state. A full review of the league structure MUST be handed down by them. Otherwise, a group of people could simply push their way onto the SLC and push their agenda through the system. And then the strategy of the league with change from year to year as the SLC changes between groups of people running it.
The BV office needs to set the strategy for the league, and the overall structure, followed by the SLC managing and maintaining the system.
Pirates, I agree fully there will be no new CEO for 2 - 3 months. I also think if they don't find the right applicant for the job, they need to continue with a interim CEO (who would hopefully be appointed soon), and re-advertise for the CEO position - until they find the right person for the job. The sport is currently at a crossroads in this state, and we shouldn't accept mediocrity because of haste.
