Hi all, I'm quite a frequent follower of this forum to gain info on what happened on the weekend although never really had to post because I'm a player who doesn't participate in the important r direct stuff. Ie; first grade. I do however have an interest in the 3's and 4's at my particular club who are now into the business end of he season and I'm sure there are plenty of guys who read this forum are in a similar boat. After looking at the play off games in the 3's it looks really interesting with the dragons and demons playing off for direct entry to the big dance having squared off just once this season with the green men taking the chocs by a lone run at home. They finished top but now have to travel to surrey park! Oh the beauty of lower grade ball.. The reighning premiers malvern play cheltenham who have been in good form. Both clubs should be confident of success in this one and have confidence to go all the way. My thoughts...
What about yours? Div 1 fourths preview anyone?

There are plenty of lower grade players who post here too; I don't advertise it because everyone knows I'm terrible already!
Playing in Div 1 3rds all year I'd say Doncaster are the team to beat. I was shocked that Geelong and Essendon didn't do better and make the four ahead of Melbourne and Cheltenham. I guess how teams match up really dictates how well a team places. We (Preston) lost to Sunshine (11th) twice but we beat Cheltenham, Melbourne and Geelong. Essendon, Doncaster, Blackburn, Malvern; they all played us really hard this year.
So in summation, Doncaster to win this week then in two weeks time for mine. Malvern might have the experience to come through and win, but I'd think Melbourne with the double chance will re-match with Doncaster.
As far as Div 1 4ths, I think the guy throwing for Chelt was easily throwing mid 70's if not low 80's when I saw him (glad our 4ths boys only saw him once). They had a lot of low scores against. The worry would be their one loss was served up by Sunshine who they face this week. It will be either of those two from what I saw this year.
PS Both Sunshine teams have improved vastly since last I saw them 2 years ago in Div 2; credit to the coaches.

Having watched Chelt's 3rds and 4ths all season, the thirds have to pitch well to match Malvern, this week. The Chelt 4ths with a full compliment should be to good for Sunshine this week. Melb and Doncaster will be interesting in both grades as they mainly rely on the pitching to get them through. An interesting weekend of baseball. All the best to all finalists.

Div 1 3rds:
Doncaster defeat Melbourne 9-7
Malvern defeat Cheltenham 11-9
Melb play Malvern next week and I'd stick with my tip of a Melb v Doncaster GF rematch.
Div 1 4ths:
Cheltenham defeated Sunshine 5-3
Melbourne defeated Doncaster 8-7
Again I'll stick with my tip of a Sunshine v Chelt rematch. I'm less certain of that happening as Melbourne finished the year very well scoring 9 runs per game after the break, only dropping two games; one to Chelt and one to Waverley (by 1 run).

After watching Malvern v Chelt div 1 3rds game on the weekend, the Malvern side could suprise Melb this week if they continue to hit the ball. Malvern's defence was far more than adequate with several stunning double plays executed. I might stick my neck out here but I feel that Malvern will make the GF. As for the fourths, only a road stoppage from Shepparton will stop Cheltenham from taking out the flag.

This will be their no. 1 pitcher who resides in Shepparton or there abouts.

I did say Melb were a good chance in the 4ths. The way they have finished the year I think they could snatch it. They only allowed Sunshine to score in one innings (although it was a 6 spot) so if they can keep up that kind of defense against Chelt they are a real chance. They will have to score against one of the form arms of the comp, so working counts and running his count up early will be a key. I'll tip an upset and go against what I had earlier predicted with Melbourne to win, they have just been too good with the stick lately.
In the thirds I can only go on what I've seen and I'd still have Doncaster the favorites but Malvern have shown all year they can match it with the best of the division, and we all know anything can happen in those big games at the pointy end of the season. I'm staying with Doncaster on this one though. Best team all year and should take it home.
Best of luck to everyone competing this weekend, I'll be elsewhere: :fishing:

Congrats to the Malvern boys on the win. Only saw them in the one game this year and I did not think they had it in them this year, good on them for proving me wrong!
