Lower grades, juniors, Masters and Women's wrap up their regular season over the next few days.
There is still plenty to play for in Division One and Two competition, with placings far from settled.

Can anyone shed some light on why 4 division 2 games start at midday next Saturday? Well I'm tipping the Saturday would be because the lower grades start finals next week and the grounds might be required to host finals. As for the midday, I have no idea.

Yep, any team on any day in this years league. Doncaster Dragons Div 1 A's scortched Cheltenham Rustlers at the Dragon Lair this arvo' with a merciful 10-0 finish. Ouch!

Just looked at the Summer League results page and see all but one game this weekend as lop-sided affairs and that was Preston v. Waverley, 1-3. Waverley still have a mathematical chance of making the finals at the expense of the Rustlers and Cheltenham's next 2 games are with the Pirates and then Essendon, whilst Waverley face the Dons twice and then Sunshine. Chelt' and Preston have only met once this season and that was on Pirate turf with a 1-2 result for Chelt' with Essendon v. Cheltenhams 2 games have gone 4-5 and 8-6. Waverley lost their only meeting with the Dons this season 3-6 and have a draw and a 4-3 win record with Sunshine. It ain't over till it's over, that's for sure.

Wouldn't leave Melbourne out of the equation, perfeckt.
It is all contingent on Cheltenham dropping three more games. Unlikely maybe, though your boys will get Bubbie on Tuesday and have ESsendon in the last game.

Just goes to show how tight this year has been kc. Didn't mean to leave the Demons out of the equation but the last glass of red was starting to take effect and I thought I should leave my pisstulations when I did. Is Waverley still a chance?

I believe they are both still a rough chance, perfeckto.
Like you, though, I might see it differently in the cold, sober light of day.

Chelt, in their infamous ways, could manage to lose it at the selection table. Putting the best players on the park beats putting the best paid players on the park. Once again Chelt failed against a contending side. A lack of quality pitching will do it.

Dont count Chelt out..Look at Blackleys finals record, particularly at Altona, I would suggest as good as there has been in the last 20 years..

Just out of curiosity, should todays rostered games be a washout, would BV reschedule the games to be played especially seeing as how results could have a major outcome to the finals make up, not that, that is an excuse just to reschedule.

good question, has the precedent been set with the Waverley v Melbourne game from earlier in the season.

Who wont's to guess the finales placings for the Div 1 Res ladder

I would be guessing, but with the win loss ratio being the given, BV may not worry about rescheduling, but it does make people think a bit. I do believe that the Melb v Wav game is long gone and over and done with. But this close to finals, who knows what BV are thinking.

You say the Melb v Wav game is long gone, but when you consider it is the only game to be missed thus far in the season, and has the potential to change the results for 4th place, it actually makes it a bad game to have missed. I don't think the game will be rescheduled, and I'm not crying about it either, but when you look at the placings, both teams vying for 4th place are the teams that lost a game there due to a council screw up. Would be a shame for a close season like this to have 4th place decided by a council screw up, if it ends up that way.

According to a twitter post
@baseballvic advises that all games scheduled for Altona tonight are cancelled due to unplayable conditions. @geelongbaycats
This effects
Upwey Vs Geelong
Blackburn Vs Sunshine
Yet to hear of any other washouts at this time

Would seem to me the Melb v Wav game should be played. It was not a rain out or heat out but caused due to ground conditions outside clubs control. The same scenario as the 2 games that were rescheduled due to Altona refurbs not being completed in time for them to be played as originally scheduled.

Clause 11 of this years playing conditions - 11) Rescheduling of Games a) Games incomplete or not played due to adverse weather, forfeit or other unsuitable playing conditions shall not be rescheduled.
This is very clear cut and can't really be interpreted in any other way.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is how it should be. I'm just stating the facts within the playing conditions and I'd be very interested to hear if any of these games do get rescheduled.

Scam, understand what you are saying and the rule is very clear cut. Trying to work out though how the 2 games I mentioned previously then got rescheduled. Clearly at that time Altona was classed as "other unsuitable playing conditions".
BTW I am not connected with either Melb or Wav so have no vested interest in this, just intrigued at how certain rulings are made that lack consistency and go against what is quite clear and unambiguous.

Chalk up another one.
Essendon vs Waverley
As that was the late game at Latrobe I would surmise that the earlier game Cheltenham Vs Preston would probably be as well.

Very big call as the rain has stopped and it is getting quite warm. A lot of grounds would have been dry and the water would have been soaked up prior to game time. Would they have made this call in round 4 or 5?

Agree Reg44. I'm not connected to any of the affected games either but completely agree with your last sentence.

What's an old bloke going to do for his baseball fix tonight? The radar still shows some storms around. It's a situation where BV is d**ned if it does (call games off) and d**ned if it doesn't (if grounds remain unplayable). Credit to them for at least making an early call in a difficult situation. The timing is unfortunate, so close to finals, though there still seem to be some interesting possibilities (assuming that the last two games are played). If Cheltenham wins one game (against Preston or Essendon), then it holds fourth regardless of anything else. If Cheltenham lost both, then it may open the door for Waverley or Melbourne (who would both have to win both games to have a chance). If Waverley beats Essendon and Sunshine, and Melbourne was to beat Sandringham and Doncaster, then it would be a three-way go for fourth (assuming the two Cheltenham losses). All three would have Match Ratio of 0.532. On head-to-head, Waverley has beaten Cheltenham two from three and Melbourne has beaten Cheltenham two from three. So the Rustlers would drop out. However, Melbourne has beaten Waverley in both games played (the other was abandoned), giving Melbourne fourth spot. At least that is my rudimentary reckoning. Someone might like to do the sums for the bottom of the table, where Upwey and Sunshine are both striving to stay out of eleventh spot.

The weekend before our game started - I said to a fellow team mate "Gee - not one wash out all season for us"
I would like to make a formal apology to everyone within Baseball Victoria. I truly am sorry for any problems caused. Sanctions will be taken - most likely resulting in some public beating with comedy oranges.
But at least the rest of the divisions went without any washouts for a summer season! haha
