A reminder to all that this Sunday is a very special day for the Essendon Baseball club. We are pleased to be holding our 1st Heritage Day. This is being combined for a very special day that will celebrate three members who have all put in 50 years of service to the club. (and counting) Garry "bitty" Bitmead. John "choppa" Pate Leigh "tubers" McIntyre In honour of the day, all Ess Senior 1sts players will be wearing the retro (1950s/1960s) "Black" uniform. We invite all to come on down and celebrate a very special day. The 1sts & 2nds will be playing Sunshine. Attachments:

Congrats to three of you boys - a great effort and a nice way for the club to recognise you all.

I am also delighted to announce the 3 players in question have been named in the Div 1 1sts starting 9 on the day.
I invite everyone who has played with any of the three to come on down on the day.

If you look at the photo above, it is the "A3" EBC Team from 1963.
Special note : It also has choppa and bitty in the front row.
choppa is front 2nd from the left (I know, hard to pick it) and bitty is front far right. bitty is seated in front of his father.
Whilst I do not know the names of all in the photo, I believe back row 2nd from the left is Ron Owen.
Both choppa and bitty were 13 at the time and the club home ground in those days was at Fairburn Park.

Read more: baseballradio.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bvcompetitions&action=display&thread=3412&page=1#ixzz2K0zH1ITMAn A3 team with Chopper, Bity and Ronny Owen in it - even if they were only 13yo's, the A1 and A2 teams must have been good! This is a great initiative. The 3 honourees have been wonderful players and just as importantly great blokes. All of them have put far more back into the game than they have taken out of it. Should be a terrific occasion.

Baseball Victoria will be working with Essendon to ensure that the Heritage Day gets decent coverage in Summer League reporting during Sunday and Monday.
Check the Summer League website and Essendon Twitter feed on Sunday/Monday.

What a pity this game isn't being played on Saturday. Would love to get there, but playing at the same time unfortunately.
Having been coached by Bitty throughout juniors and whilst at Melbourne Uni it'd be great to see him suiting up for the 1s game!
Ah well, hoping it is a fantastic day for all concerned! Looking forward to the summer league website coverage of the day.

I'm pleased to say, thanks to the Sunshine BC who have given their blessing for this weeks 3rds & 4ths, which were to be held at Sunshine, to be now played at Essendon.
This now sees the 1s, 2s, 3s & 4s all playing Sunshine at Essendon. This was allow everyone to join EBC's Heritage Day and to join with us in the special celebrations for "choppa", "bittty" and "tubers"

McIntyre to Pate in the 1st innings would be a wonderful sight to see. Let the good times roll and the clock get wound back. Well done to Essendon for allowing these three wonderful players and clubmen celebrate 50 years service in a remarkable gesture. Three cheers.

I would just like to say a huge Thank you to Sunshine Baseball Club for their support yesterday. Sunshine moved the 3rds and 4ths game to Essendon so everyone could enjoy the day which was a great success.
Great tribute to 3 such deserving Legends and hopefully this day gave a sense of how much they are appreciated. Looking forward to Ladies Day/Cancer Awareness day on the 23rd.
