With all of the interesting chat going on about other matters, let us not forget that Summer League baseball is in a vital phase, with some massive games again this week.
Every Division One game is vital - in one way or another - while Division Two remains wide open with seven games (for most clubs) still to play.

Very interesting times in Div 1 with some clubs moving 2 or 3 ladder positions with a win or loss. It is a shame that two teams will eventually have to go down.

Struggles for numbers down at mully. Not sure it's a great idea having all these games on long weekend. Plus the juniors starting back this weekend is just insane! Who does these draws? They need to have a rethink about there relevance in the scheme of baseball. I'm absolutely dismayed they could think this is a good idea.

Just for the record - Im getting real pi$$ed off with clubs/teams that don't provide a scorer ...partic when its their home game.
We are one of the lucky teams that have an amazingly generous and talented scorer who does all of our Masters AND Sunday games but I reckon she has had to score on her own 5-6 times (at least) this season on Sundays and Mondays with some clubs having fans and bench players at their home games and expecting her to do it by herself anyway !
Poor form.

Another fascinating day of Division One baseball, with Melbourne downing the league leaders, Preston keeping Essendon scoreless, Doncaster thrashing Sunshine, Waverley amassing a cricket score (well, almost) against Malvern, Geelong beating Sandy by a couple and the Cheltenham offence getting after Upwey Tigers. Seems also that Moorabbin rolled Fitzroy in something of an upset in Division Two. www.vicsummerleague.baseball.com.au/default.asp?Page=91251

I witnessed an interesting situation today at a div1 1st game, ball 4 in the dirt so the hitter hustles up the line, the ball got away from the catcher and goes to the back net, while the catcher is getting the ball the umpire throws the pitcher another ball....never seen anything like it before. I wonder what would have happened if the guy who walked tried to take 2nd?

Saints 1's and 2's up over Mulgrave. 2's were 7-0 up at one stage and then things got wacky with the Rebels putting on 9 in one dig. Saints were able to claw back 5 and hold off Mulgrave in the last to win 12-11. Saint's 1's put on an impressive team hitting display, hitting well in all situations up and down the line up against quality Mulgrave pitching. Cerafice for Saints was very good on the hill all day and chipped in with a few hits and RBI's of his own. Not sure of final score but something like 11-5?

Another interesting situation down at Mulgrave yesterday. No one really sure what to do, here we go. Batter hits line drive back at pitcher, ball misses pitchers feet, hits rubber on mound and bounces back to catcher on the full who takes it behind the plate. Throws wild up to first base and batter gets to third on the throw. What's the call. After 5 mins of head scratching, foul ball. All evens out in the end batter hits single to centre. Is foul ball the correct call ?..?..

May be a case of find an umpire or you forfeit

Hey 4C - I hear ya and they are one of many that seem to be repeat offenders unfortunately - does anyone know if clubs get fined for not providing a scorer ? if so how does this actually happen, and if not why not ?

Kev, I hear you loud and clear, Chelt FB, no umpire, no scorer. We even rang the scores through for them, had a wonderful time umpiring and translating. So in answer to your question, no different. They did have a match card though.

authentis, the only way somebody would get fined would be if somebody dobbed them in, then BV would have to make a decision. I don't think it is too overly policed.

Lorraine, I don't know if stadium management reads this Forum, but your concerns would appear to be spot-on on the basis of what you've said here.
Serving greasy crap and not taking care of scorers is a sure way of turning supporters off the most rapidly-growing element of Australian sport - in Masters baseball.
Be assured that your support of the older players still running around is very much appreciated.

Played at upwey in masters last night. Big thanks ton the upwey seniors for not letting us play on the main diamond, because there were about 12 blokes doing live hitting! Pretty ordinary form. The masters are part of the club too! I know a few of the upwey masters weren't to happy tbh.

Agree entirely lorraine and kc re MBP - great facility to play at now BUT the Canteen does a very average job (yet I gather their contract out there is what forces us to travel great distances to play there perhaps) AND our scorers got saturated there pre Xmas when they were not allowed to go into the indoor area when it rained !
Wyatt, I thought the anomonly of the draw (where Masters played last night) might head butt that ground/Seniors training issue at some clubs home grounds last night.
As I see it it was a good test of how good a club is - if they bumped the old guys to the back diamond over training then that is poor form and they are not a good CLUB (in my view).

authentic, beautifully said(typed), just shows a complete lack of respect for the players that probably help make Upwey what and where they are today. Just more people to add to the shame file.

I guess teams with one diamond might have had an issue with last night, but as we all know, upwey have a very good multi ground venue. It's a poor effort to basically tell their vets to get rooted.

I rang Baseball Vic today and told them my concern about last night Menu offered at ALTONA .ALSO how badly treated the scorers were having to sit out in the open in all the weather .I was told that they were looking at finding somewhere to put the scorers that was protected from the elements ..Not much left of THIS SEASON ....to get your act togeather .

I watched my first masters game last night. Berwick vs Berwick. Was good fun.
Seniors training was from 6 to 6:25 on the main diamond, for fielding. Then into the new tunnels for hitting.
I didn't see a problem with that, as its their game time. We have ours Sundays, they have theirs during the week.
Respect the older generation. Haha

Greg, the scorer was fuming, I spoke to a couple of guys on base they weren't to happy. Just reckon its poor form to treat a team like that. And it wasn't like they were doing infield drills, and there were 30 blokes at training. Live hitting to about 6 fielders and a couple on deck! We wouldn't treat any of our sides like that at mully.

Like I said Wyatt33. Pm me your phone number and ill tell you how the conversation went down. Considering it is my decision who plays where. How can it be poor form to treat a team like that, when I gave the coach the option of two fields? So you continuing your rant, slandering me and my club is getting you nowhere and making baseball look even worse. I notice you haven't sent me your number. Just gutless to know the truth?

Haha Onya mate - Div 2 Masters can provide quite some entertainment for the 1 or 2 spectators that we get - and curiously none of it much to do with baseball :-)

Greg, in reading this you are the person that organises who plays were. Conversation with coach should have been I have organised the masters on the main diamond and sent training down the back. Should never have I got to the coach deciding, puts the masters coach in a tough spot. Seems you didnt make the right call and need to justify it. Before you ask no I don't have an vested interest in either mulgrave, upwey or masters in general. If there is a game on it should always be on the best ground available, training can be taken on any ground.
