What a mouth-watering round of Division One games (if we avoid crappy weather on the horizon).
Every game has importance in its own right as middle-of-the road clubs battle to stay in finals contention and the bottom group jockeys for better position going into the break.
With clubs at or approaching full strength, the Blackurn/Waverley, Cheltenham/Upwey and Essendon/Melbourne games may tell us plenty.

Giants knocked of the baycats 4-3 in what will be one of the upsets of the year on current form lines.
A Huge result considering the Giants nearly started the game with 8 due to a late withdrawl.

While it was an upset, the Werribee win did not come as a huge surprise to Giants management, who know the Geelong players pretty well and on this occasion turned their team's hitting around dramatically against some of the league's best arms. Malvern edged even further out of the shaky zone with a 6-4 result over Doncaster, who have dropped five in a row. Some huge games on the sabbath. www.vicsummerleague.baseball.com.au/

Apparently the Wolves and Saints didn't get along too well yesterday and the benches cleared. Anybody care to share some more?

The big boys came out to play today, with Essendon downing Melbourne with a late blitz, Waverley overpowering Blackburn and Cheltenham taming the Tigers. In a pitcher-dominated contest, Fitzroy made it two on the trot with its 3-1 result over Preston. www.vicsummerleague.baseball.com.au/default.asp?Page=81943

Horse,
no big deal, just a heated play at the plate that boiled over a little. been some great games between the wolves and saints over the years so a bit disappointing for both sides i think.
also, stkilda's yank threw an exceptional game, collecting 15odd strikeouts over 8.

Is that score in Div 2 3rds correct? Newport 52 - Port Melb 0.

Let us hope that's a typo - no team deserves to be beaten by such a score.
Sandringham 14 Mulgrave 5 was the final at Tulip Street yesterday.
The Rebels got an early 3-run jump, as Matthew Holmes received little fielding support behind him, however the Royals came back to lead 5-3 after a solid third innings. Alex Da Silva held things in check through the middle innings as Sandringham got to Dan Rogers, who was replaced bottom five, and the Royals kept scratching out runs off Ewan John (I think).
Leading 9-5 in the eighth, the first seven Royals that came to the plate all reached base, with David Housden capping the barrage with a two-RBI double to the left field fence. Terry Jeon got the job done over the final 2 2/3 to close out the game.
Hard to pick out individuals for the winners, but I confess I've not seen someone get five walks in a game as Jake Sinclair apparently did.
For Mulgrave, some of the tall guys had good days and some didn't - I've certainly not seen a taller baseball team.

The xmas break cannot come quick enough for all teams at the moment, and hopefully some better, more competitive results come after xmas. Tough to watch from the other side of the fence at the moment.

Spoke to a couple of the Newport boys last night and yeah that 52-0 game on Sunday got ugly and they tried to not embarrass the Mariner boys I believe, and no one was happy about AC going 8 for 8 except AC Rams beat us Buccaneers 12-11 last night in the Masters in what was a fun game played in good spirit with a backdrop of the U16 State squad who must have wondered what the hell was going on with us bunch of old ba$tards out on the main diamond. One of many 'interesting moments' was after yet another foul ball sailed into the cemetary and was last seen making a 'splash and crash' near a grave it came back wet and 'blackened', hopefully it was just Dirt and not someones Ashes but the game got a 'little weird' thereafter
