A very different weekend of baseball in front of us, with the Aces at home and all senior club games played on Saturday.

Again the rebels in a top of table clash, this time it's a local derby, with a short trip down the hwy to berwick. A comfy win last night gives the 'gravies' at least another week at the top, win or lose. Good base splint this weekend folks, I'm unavailable due to schooling commitments. Go rebels!

You mean we don't get to see you take the mound tomorrow wyatt33?
I might have to loosen up then...

Malvern were considering putting in a 5th men's team, but the Saturday games were a rude awakening to those plans. 6 unavailable in the 3s not to mention the 4ths. Makes a 5th team a tougher proposition.

Makes a 5th team a tougher proposition. Same deal at Preston. Weddings, cricket, work...I think we have 15 unavailable a d should get 10 a side for all 4 teams so no forfeits but in two weeks she everyone gets back we will have the old issue of 4-5 guys on the bench in the 3s and 4s.

I can understand that bv do it to try to get more support for the Aces, but why aren't the aces focusing on Saturday twilight (aces schedule prob not a BV decision).
I can only speak for my club, but we're going to have this issue right through the season

I can only speak for my club, but we're going to have this issue right through the season I think BV have taken a good first step to get more bums on seats at the show, and because lots of people don't look further than next week when it comes to the fixture there are plenty of angry people out there. If next year the ACES have a similar schedule I would think half of all the games from each division should be on Saturday, and the other half on Sunday. By making sure they fixture the same sub-set of teams to play in each round, it is fair for all teams (if you don't do this some teams would get 2 normal Sundays and others would get 2 Saturdays). It is funny but I'm sure I've seen in other threads people calling for Saturday games. Now we get them, and everyone who was happy with Sundays is up and about talking about how baseball is only for Sundays in summer. Never going to have everyone happy!

3's and 4s went down to Malvern. 9-4 in the late game and I think 8-7 in the early one. Heard the 1sts got up 6-1 with Masa leading the way and the "evergreen" Marshall Skinner doing it with the stick.
PS: Barb05 1 vs Chilli Wil 1. We should have a rematch round 18, looking forward to it. Good to see a few of the Malvern boys stick around for a drink and a chat.

Melbourne downed Werribee 7-1 same score in the 2's as well I think. Blackmore went for Melbourne for 6 no runs. Northcott went the distance for Werribee. With Melbourne scoring 4 with 2 outs in the 5th. Big shout out to Umpire Dennis Murphy who did a sterling job plating both the 1st and 2nds and old man Hondo for doing the line in the 1's. Jordan Mitchelhill a double short of the cycle for Melbourne.
Also heard Mulgrave knocked of Berwick in Divvy 2. 6-3 int he 1sts and 9-1 in the 2nds.

That is correct. 6-3 to the good guys! Wasn't there today so I can't comment on the game, but it's nice to see the boys traveling well. Go Rebels!

I heard a lot of negative comments about the all saturday weekend. There is a lot of players who work or have other commitments on saturdays. Why not have the Aces double header on saturday and leave club baseball on sunday?

It would be an interesting project to work out how many players were possibly inconvenienced by wanting to play on Saturday but couldn't as they could not play on a Saturday OR they wanted to play and could have but the other team forfeited.
Then line that up with the actual attendance figures on Sunday at the Aces compared to Saturday, and how the numbers were bolstered by this decision (or not, as the case may be) ?

Going by the box scores on the Aces website, the attendances were:
Friday - 1514 Saturday - 1174 Sunday - 923

With people coming and going, I'm not surprised that they got 923. Several people in our area left after game one and some arrived for game two. I'd give them that one Diesel.

I don't think it matters too much... 900 is a terrible figure to present and especially when you've completely changed the main league to do so... For what its worth, I estimated maybe 300 - 400 max at the early game.

I think they are missing the point, they need to attract people outside of baseball.....Sure moving games can help, but I know if i was at baseball most of Saturday for club ball I couldnt see my wife letting me go to the Aces game on Sunday...

Interesting to see they have odds for the ABL Campionship. Prior to the Heat series the Aces were 11-1 to win the title and after the Perth series they are 9-1???
