Cheltenham 5 down plated 8 in the fourth and went on to win 5-15. Both teams depleted by marital (Essendon) duties and Aces (Cheltenham) duties but Steve Gourlay pitched through a shaky start for a complete game win. Not that Steve wasn't pitching well but Essendon came out swinging and then Chelt's slumbering bats came alive.

At the top? You're a game and a half behind St Kilda in the threes there Wyatt. ;-)
A good win by the ones obviously. Now you become the hunted!!
Sandringham beat Springvale 7-5 after the Royals led 6-0 after three. Jock Allen leading the way for the winners with four or five hits (depends on how the last one was scored). Matthew Holmes 6 2/3 for the win and Jeon closed out, though Hogan's two RBI single in the eight brought a well undermanned Springvale back into the contest. I reckon once they get coach Wearne, Glen Richards, Scott Baillie, Tim Hanson, Lucas Price and whoever else I've missed then they'll be climbing back up the ladder.
Hogan threw the complete game for the Lions, throwing 167 pitches - some for strikes and some were called (sorry Boysey, he wanted me to say that). Hope you enjoy backing up on the bumpfor the Masters tomorrow night big fella.
Twos won by Sandringham while Springvale swept the 3s and 4s.

Good day for the Saints at Pt Melbourne with Mark Larini going the distance for a 4-0 complete game shutout. 2's won 15-2 on the back of a big 12 run 5th inning. 3's belted Port 41-0 with a number of big flies.

Funny thing about Mark Larini throwing a 2 hit shutout, rumour has it he only got 1 vote from the Umpires (who may I add did a sensational job calling a consistent zone all day), with Port's Pitcher Andrew Chesterton getting 2 votes for giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, not sure who got the 3 votes.

With Kevin Reese getting some action with the Aces young rookie Steve Hunter got the start for Malvern and pounded the zone all day, he has been very consistent so far in Malvern’s 2’s and it was a great sign of things to come.

For those not by now aware, both Tuesday night games at Altona have been cancelled (Doncaster vs Geelong, Waverley vs Malvern).
Both games at La Trobe will proceed as scheduled.

Surely they cancelled the games at Altona tonight ahead of people actually driving there?

So let me get this straight - yesterday's games were called off hours in advance due to minimal rain yet with forcasts for tonight calling for something resembling The Day After Tomorrow and it takes right up until both teams are suited up and ready to go before they see fit to call the game off.
Something doesn't add up...

THC, it seems "they" are d**ned if they do and d**ned if they don't.
I seem to recall, last season, that BV copped stick over calling games off when some thought it was premature. On at least a couple of occasions, conditions at some grounds turned out better than anticipated and we had people arguing for a ground-by-ground call rather than abandoning all games across what is a large geographical area.
Games were called off at Altona on Tuesday because the field had taken a lot of rain and the surfaces were not suitable for play. La Trobe went ahead because the surfaces WERE suitable for play.
While the forecast today looked ugly, the storms were localised. Some areas were badly affected, some were hardly affected at all. It looks like BV took the punt on the games at Altona maybe, just maybe being able to be played if at all possible.
That is no-one's fault, and it is certainly not dodgy, as you suggest. It's unfortunate, and it's an inconvenience for some. But that's baseball. For as long as we play the game outside we are subject to the elements.

I apologise KC as I did not for one second mean to imply that anything dodgy was taking place I just thought it strange that yesterday's games were cancelled very early in the day after a few showers and even with the forcast of severe storms today's games were planned to go ahead. Just seemed strange to me but thanks for clearing it up.

Neither does playing this Saturday !!!!!!!! How do you like a comment on this??? I think our team is down to 3 or 4 players, due to cricket and work commitments for the next two weeks. Does BV not realise that most of the lower sides are filled with cricketers? Surely it isn't only our side that will struggle to fill their teams this week?

Ghost, you're not alone that's for sure.
We are about 12 players down this Saturday, mainly due to work committments. Plus we have 3 or 4 of our women's players who usually play men's, but obviously have to play women's on Saturday. We will battle to get 9 in all four men's teams this Saturday.

at this stage our womens's 2nd's will play short due to the 11 start. fortunately for us our 3rds men have a bye and we will have to use all those available to fill our other mens teams.

I've not long got back from OS and am a bit suprised by this whole change of fixture approach. And I am also suprised that I hadnt read much about it herein whilst OS (unless I missed it ?) as it is a very odd move if I understand the reasoning behind it correctly. From what I know this change of days may also be the 'death knell' of a potential new team that might have filled the Bye in Div 6 too, but time will tell on that front I suspect.

THC, the storm that lashed Port Fairy and Geelong earlier, was moving towards and over the bay in a SW direction, albeit, close to Altona. The early game started on time and after 5 or so minutes there was lightning, the wind dropped and the storm changed direction, heading towards the ballpark. Once that happened with the amount of lightning around, there was no chance of any games last night.

I suspect the reasoning behind the men playing on Saturday this week is for maximum crowds at the ACES double-header on Sunday. Same as next week when the ACES host Brisbane.
Yes lots of people have other commitments on Saturday, but unless I'm mistaken the games have not been moved since the fixtures were out. Club administrators have had more than 2 months to come up with solutions for just the senior men's issue. That doesn't mean there are easy solutions to these problems, but with that amount of time I'm sure something could have been done. (unless BV took a very "rigid" stance, in which case there is little clubs could do)
Adding in the women's, well that is another kettle of fish entirely. Plus those of us that coach juniors and now have to explain to our better halves why we have to go out Saturday AND Sunday!

If this is Preston entering a 5ths (more like 2012/2013 pre-season master team 2), then we can still handle that. Just forfeit the first game!

Thats not exactly the best way to start a team off mate - best we try something (if the Club & Comp permits) when the Season goes back to Sundays and players at the club are more available in the higher grades I think.

Does anyone have any idea where the juniors are playing on Sunday yet? Your club should have been sent an email detailing the first 2 rounds.
