What do players/supporters think about playing/watching mid week club games at Latrobe Uni? Not talking Aces or representative games, just club games.
I find it interesting that club games are fixtured at Latrobe (games not involving Preston) where the home club gets invoiced for lights and loses out on canteen/bar sales. Surely these games could be played as mid week games at the home ground once day light savings kicks in to full steam.

It could be worse Larry, your team could be fixtured as the home team against Preston & have the pleasure of playing that home game at Preston like Port Melbourne did last season, absolute joke.

When you look at the draft fixtures, I am sure Preston would be happy with the fact they will not be able to train on their own ground for 4 weeks on either a Tuesday or a Thursday night, then an additional 4 Tuesday nights and an additional 1 Thursday night.
Given that their website has the following: The Preston Baseball Club Inc. currently trains Seniors on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 6:00 and 8:30pm and Juniors train on Wednesday evenings between 5:30 and 7:00pm.
So in a 5 week period they can have 1 Tuesday night training session on there own diamond, however thier 1's would be playing on that night anyway.
That would have to be a downfall by having all of these games scheduled to be played there, so as a club would they really benefit, I would have thought not.

Financially they MAY be better off... With The potential sales revenue from these extra games.
Playing wise - with daylight hours they have a second diamond to train on, and probably will retain access to their batting cage.
I see more Positives than Negatives, from the scheduling.

Speaking for myself and not the club Skier you are spot on, the disadvantages for the club far outweigh the advantages as I see it (partic when the club often either dont train or have only half of the club training on the other field on some of these nights.
And I believe the use of LaTrobe (in part at least) occurs as much because Preston in good faith allow this to occur for the betterment of the game first and the club second, might be one reason why they/we got Club of the Year ?

Terrific club Preston. Well lead on and off the field.
It was discussed with BV last year, and will be done again this year very shortly. Just don't understand why games have to be played out there and not twilight games at the home club ground.

Whatever the other factors, I would hope commonsense is applied with regard to which teams are scheduled there. Something like Geelong v Werribee at 20:50 could take 20-odd people out of our workforce for the next day.

With the current roadworks on the Ring Road La Trobe is hard to get to for the 6.30pm start for the early game.
Why must mid-week games be played there.
I disagree that Preston get the canteen profit while the participating clubs are charged $72 per game they play there.
While at Altona no club gets financial advantage from the canteen.

With the current roadworks on the Ring Road La Trobe is hard to get to for the 6.30pm start for the early game. Conversely, anyone traveling to either of the other venues that have approved lighting, Altona or Geelong at this stage, this is also an issue going the other way. Really a non-issue to why Preston should or should not be used, as the problem would just be reversed if either of the other options were used. Usually questions end with one of these "?". Unless all mid-week games are played at Altona, Preston has to be used. That or you have mid-week games at club grounds, which need to start earlier even with daylight savings, require twice the number of umpires (only one game at a venue so umpires can't split a doubleheader) and presents just as many if not more issues with traffic and work commitments that playing at a lit venue. Your club is welcome not to come and use the facility, hand the league a walk-over fine and save yourselves some petrol. I see. So a venue owned and run by BV scoops up all the canteen revenue, so Preston should not benefit financially from the imposition placed on its fee paying members? I've tried to stay out of this thread, as obviously I'm a little biased. As far as I can see, there are three grounds that midweek games can be played at: Altona, Geelong, Preston. Unless Div 1 & Div 2 move to an 18 game season, these facilities are vital in getting all the games played. I seem to remember not too long ago all mid-week games were played at Altona. Would those from the northern, eastern and south-eastern suburbs prefer to travel to Altona or Preston to play their mid-weekers? Again I'm biased as a 3 minute car trip to my local club makes it easy for me to decide. I'd really love to see Doncaster get their lights upgraded and one club from the SE get lights at the same standard as Preston's. If BV throw their help to these projects I'm sure it could happen sooner rather than later. Then the clubs that get drawn as the home team can pick a venue to play their mid-week games. The inner city clubs (if their players live near their clubs) are always going to be s hit out of luck. I think everyone would prefer a St Kilda, Port Melbourne or Malvern to have quality lighting so a central venue could be used. Maybe if that rumour about the Showgrounds being available is true then that might be a real winner.

Ballarat is a fourth lit option, Chilli. Especially for clubs to the west and south-west of the city. An hour on the freeway each way. Stay overnight and enjoy some regional hospitality.

I love the Red Sox of the winter (GMBC are the Yankees), but I don't think it will help us out in summer.

Chilli you dropped this... Most of the time I let all that stuff slide but sometimes I just can't help myself Puma. The teacher in me says the following about mackem's post: 8/10 for grammar. 3/10 for coherence. 10/10 for trolling; as he did indeed finally elicit a response from me and drag me into this thread. Total score: 21/30 for 70%.

An option is that BV draws some games as mid week games at home grounds. It can be risky with light but i've played in a few where a full game has been played out. And if you don't so be it, you play 1 hr 50 mins or whatever.
An example is that i disagree that Port Melb should play Ormond at Prest. Allow the club to play a true home game, play local and play as long as you can play.
