Can these tools please stop sending me e-mails. I'm getting them every second day, it's getting beyond a joke. Irritating people isn't the way to get them to help you out. Start emailing them back complaining, and cc Brett Hidson. I did, and the more people who do, the more likely they are to take notice. I also may have ranted about the fact that everybody they're asking to come down will be playing, and at the crunch time of the season too...

Do the forum members think the targeting of the 18-35 year old demographic specifically excludes some of the most important people in the game, and a potential plethora of untapped ideas, information and experience. I am thinking coaches, committees, support personnel and parents. Not to mention every ex-ABL player. I'm under 35 thanks Marshy. So are Russ and Cam Forbes.... Just to name a few.

To all concerned., Don't get bluffed by the attempts of BV to have us think they're doing a good job! far from it. As i read somewhere earlier.......................Monkey's To the people running this research project, the people who asked you to be involved in baseball are the ones causing the main problems in the game but hey! you do your reaserch then get paid then tell the sport nothing in paticular! I pose a question to the reaserchers, how about you ask BV staff, Who wants to work here ? or who are already looking for other positions ? Also who believes the GM and Pres are good leaders ? i'm out of the age bracket for your reaserch but the simple answer is NO!! and the staff are poorly directed and the sport is suffering!

Dag,
You must not know the GM of Baseball Victoria very well, he would be trying his guts out to build the sport, but as per usual ( and this has been going on for at least 20 years) the board are too old to and set in their ways to consider changes and the lack of financial support is also a hinderence.
So before you attack the character of a person, at least get to know them first as I have over 30 something years.

My job is not to get to know the GM! Isn't an intern in charge at BV at the minute while GM is selling the sport in the US?? I have enough friends at the minute and his job amongst other people is to run baseball! I'm looking at the product, which is the game in Vic/Aus. We have proved Aus can produce guys good enough to play with the best in the world. With the game comes off field issues which i believe are handled poorly! The politics in this sport is a joke, from individual clubs to the national bodies. There's an old saying about "trying to leave something in better condition than you found it"! State bodies can hang their hats on the ABL, but that is only as long as MLB run it. Do we really beleive kids are going to flock in numbers to clubs and sign up?? then stay in the sport for an extended time ?? Not gonna happen.

You are obviously deep in it to know exactly what issues there are, politics within individual clubs, etc. Exactly what would be the expectation of how many kids will flock to clubs because of the new ABL? Not sure the sport will ever get the level of participation that people at the top would like it to get to. I love the brand but i grew up in baseball with parents who were involved for over 40 years before retiring. Our product will get kids, but other sports are always going to kick us in the a***. In my area at the moment school basketaball is the big thing with over 16 teams from the one school playing in a domestic comp at MSAC. And its growing. From the same school we have less than 10 kids playing baseball at our local club. Not going to happen? I agree we won't see huge numbers but the re birth of the ABL certaintly gives us a stepping stone that allows the promotion of the sport.

I guess we'll wait for the release of the "Baseball Victoria Research Project"! Does anyone know when it will be completed? I understand the "promotion of the sport". What's the plan? The communications bloke lasted 5 minutes and that money for a "communications manager" is being spent where? I bet there's boxes of those finals booklet's from last season proping the doors open in the office! Paying for a second website to give the same information? The jury's still out on the "new" academy that the "development officer" isn't involved in? These are just a couple of recent issues There's been no accountability for years. The clubs deserve and should demand better!

"Isn't an intern in charge at BV at the minute while GM is selling the sport in the US?? " I guess if the GM is there on his own time and money, all the power to him but for someone that didn't show up to much of the final series this year, not too sure about the serious intent of any of it..........

I for one saw the GM too many times through last year...
surprised no mention of the 'winter coordinator' who rarely answers emails even when prodded by other bv staff about said emails. Fails to communicate effectively to associations on age Eligibility rule changes.

Dag and few others seem to be very harsh on the establishment. I don't think there is anything wrong with constructive criticism or pointing out areas that need improvement but too constantly complain and belittle the organization of the game we love can't be of any help.
I for one think that baseball in our state has taken some real positive steps in recent times and have been very pro active in improving the games stature within Victoria.
In regards to comments about the new baseball academy I would encourage anyone who has any reservations of the program to come down and witness it for yourself at either the west gate centre or the Knox center. In the spirit of full disclosure I am involved with the program as a coach, but I also have a son who partakes in the program. As both a parent and coach I have witnessed great improvement in my own child and others who have enjoyed the weekly sessions.
The new baseball academy is a great program the kids get 100 plus swings every night, they make plenty of throws and field lots of balls. All this is done under the watchful eyes of some of Victorias most experienced players karlsen, hendricks, hogan, Dale, allen, dicker, weir and more are some of the coaches on hand. The kids really seem to love the sessions and every parent I have spoken to is more than happy with the program.
Again there is nothing wrong with looking at ways for us (the baseball community) to get better and to improve our game but constant un warranted attacks serve nothing and no one.
The baseball Victoria research project might be one way we can highlight areas of improvement and how we can about addressing.

johne, I'm not sure of the involvment here and I know some of the coaches but my point is Australia has produced players capable of competing against the best in the world and players will continue to get a professional opportunity. How long should BV have the academy at West gate & Knox ? If the sport wants to be taken seriously, how long should the "elite" kids train on a tennis court ? I know it must be a logistical nightmare in running this but the sport doesn't seem to have a "home base" (pun intended). I've hired tennis courts and it's not cheap so I think the dollars involved is some what wasted and making the sport more expensive!! If you don't have a home, your homeless! I'm just wondering is there a plan or is the sport happy with this ? I think these issues are important.

Not part of the Research Project but the BV Summer league Committee have had their first meeting for the new season. All club contacts have been asked for feedback on a number of issues points prior to the start of the season such as masters games/times, dates for start of season, etc.
One interesting note is the proposal of an amendment to number of teams that a club has for D2.
3/ Baseball Victoria By-Law- Appendix D The Summer League Committee has proposed an amendment to the Baseball Victoria By- Law Appendix D, item 4 (b) Senior Club Criteria – Division 2. The proposed amendment Senior Club Criteria in Division 2: All Clubs must have three (3) senior Men’s compulsory teams.
Regardless of what people say about BV, i reckon the communication line is better than it has been in the past by far. They used to just lay it on you, now there is some flexibility and communication. It may not be where people expect it to be, but IMO it is better.
3 teams instead of 4 in D2 is also a step forward for clubs in that level as well. This will have its detractors because of fixturing but a move in the right direction for a number of clubs playing at this level.
