Aussie baseball continues to form invaluable links with overseas interests. Geelong Baycats have tentatively accepted an invitation to attend the Grand Forks Invitational Tournament in British Columbia (Canada) early in September. The Baycats will become the first Australian club to play at the tournament, which has a long and very distinguished history and continues to attract teams from Japan, Taiwan, China, Russia, the USA and Canada. An exciting few months and a serious, extended pre-season ahead for the Baycats club, who will be seeking the baseball community's support to help pull this trip off. www.baseballvictoria.com.au

good luck to the Baycats guys.. .what a great opportunity!
a possible fundraiser might be to play a 100 innings game... a group does this in Boston each year for charity and raise in excess of $100K (just Google '100 inning game') I'm tipping Dave Crotty would be up for maybe throwing 60 - 70 innings?!?! Might get some great press and increase the interest in the club.

Hey Mariner, Found this article on the MSBL website, gives a little more info and background on your 100 innings game, looks like they are going around again if its the same mob. If each player got sponsorship instead of tipping in themselves, it could work over here. Geelong certainly have the facility.. My name is Bobby DeAngelis and I’m running a pretty unique event this summer; The Guinness Book of World Records Longest Baseball Game. The event will be held July 29-31st in Barre, VT and proceeds from the event will support The G.I.D.E. Corporation which stands for Guidance, Involvement, Development, and Education, specializing in mentoring kids from middle school through college. The G.I.D.E. Corporation is a public benefit tax exempt 501 (c) (3) non profit organization. Proceeds will also be going to the Barre Recreation Department. We currently are looking to fill our roster of 40 players. If there is a way you could send this invitation to the team managers or players in your league that would be very much appreciated. All participants will be required to pay an entry fee of $150 to participate which is due by the start of the event. This fee will pay for your field rental, electricity for lights, insurance, food and drinks. This is on a first come first serve basis and if you send at least $50 by June 1st you will reserve your spot in the game. While we are playing for a World Record, our ultimate goal is to raise money for our organization. Some of the links below will give you more information about the event and how you can sign up. I would only ask that you notify me before you sign up, this event is first come first serve. Fundraising/signup site: sna.etapestry.com/fundraiser/BlueBullsCorporation/marathonbaseball/Foundation site: www.gidecorp.comFacebook page: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Longest-Marathon-Baseball-Game-2011/176141832400762 Background: In 2009, 40 players split into teams and played for 48 hours consecutively without stopping. The goal is to keep playing, regardless of the score for as long as possible. Teams will consist of 20 players each which will be cycled in at different positions throughout the event. Our strategy is to break the teams into units of 10 so that while your 10 teammates are playing you can get some sleep, food, drinks, etc. The 2009 event rose over $100,000 for a Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and their game bat is signed by all participants and is hung in the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. Bob Costa’s from ESPN and several other national media outlets were both present at the event and helped promote it. Some of the Rules: Players are not allowed to leave the playing area, which does not mean the field but the facility. We will provide tents, sleeping bags, food and beverages but players are not allowed to drive off the property and then come back. The rules are the same as real baseball with official baseball equipment required. Another rule is that only players present at the start of the event can participate, meaning that you cannot show up on July 30th and then just jump on a team, you must be there from the very beginning. If you are interested in participating in this event or wish to have more information please let me know. Thank you in advance, Bobby DeAngelis 1684 Mckinley Ave. Rutland, VT 05701 Phone: 802-345-9493 Email: healsreview@comcast.net Topic

Baycats lost the 1st game of the Grand Forks Invitational to Langley Sr. Blaze today, 9-4. www.grandforksbaseball.com/game2.htmIt was live streamed on the net at www.playfullscreen.com/ for those who wanna watch any of their next games. I watched it, wasnt bad quality at all, ground looked great, baseball was good, sun was shining. For the Baycats, Forbes, Egan, Gibbons & Knuth threw. Stewart 3 hits (incl. double and a bomb), Knuth & Snarey a couple hits each. The starter for Langley was pretty good though, looked like he threw pretty hard and had a pretty filthy slider. I tried to figure out their next game time, and from my guesstimate it should be about 10am Saturday (Melbourne time). Should be televised again on that site.

10.00 AM Saturday sounds right Lando, though it will be worth checking. Grand Forks links are all posted here. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/?ID=78594For a day-by-day update on the tour, check the excellent reports being posted by Nathan Holmes on the Geelong Baycats Facebook page.
