A absolute disgrace on the Council and Developers behalf. It's hard enough to run a sporting club without this sort of goings on. Good Luck to Dingley, do try for some compensation though unlikely.

To the guys at Dingley Baseball Club, give the good folks at SEN a ring over this one. They are great a drumming up community support for stuff like this. I think everyone saw this coming years ago when the plans for the estate first came to light...

80k I disagree, we had a quote to build a double batting cage and enclose the whole main diamond for 22k.
Good idea about SEN, if this was a soccer club it would never happen.

If you live near a golf course you expect to get a few errant balls in your property.
Why not the same thought when you build near a baseball diamond?
Restriction of trade comes to mind if the club was a business.

As a member of Dingley I have recieved a little info about this matter....
1. It mostly comes back to the developers who have backed out on there agreement to put up the back net to what was agreed before the matter went to VCAT 2. The price originally qouted was 40k to rebuild the fence and put in place the flyover net to the agreed specifications however this was three years ago 3. When the developer proposed his new net design to the club and council we had no option but to knock it back due to the inferior and unsafe design (it smells of cost saving and nothing more) 4. There was an agreement that no residents were to move in before the new net was put up, this agreement was broken well over a year ago 5. it is probable that the club is now going to be forced to pay for the diamond lightening to be reinstated, making training close to impossible when the net is taken down
whilst the club is being stuffed around the developer is only happy when he is getting what he wants

This is where the baseball forum can really flex. I have already drafted a letter to send to the council regarding this matter. It will be sent first thing Monday and I encourage everyone to do the same. Qld., NSW, W.A., anyone who reads this forum I emplore to do the same. I will be contacting the club president of the club (that I'm associated with) summer and winter, to get some support for Dingley. Rampant development at the cost of community must be made accountable, developers were warned, council was warned and it is the contempt and utter lack of knowledge of what the baseball community brings to the community at large that must be addressed. DBA,GBA, LVBA,(and every other BA in the country) Baseball Victoria, ABF and the one with the $ clout, Victorian Aces write letters now, send now. Do you know someone in the bigs? AAA? College? Contact them and get them the info so they can help right a wrong. The folks who bought the unit directly behind the main diamond would be definitely pissed from the amount of baseballs they have been "gifted" by the Dingley Baseball Cub but to my somewhat addled brain I can see that they have been sold a dummy. The Dingley club have provided an avenue for kids and adults to be involved in a non profit, community endeavor and should not be made to pay for their contribution. A rally and demonstration of support would not go unnoticed. Believe it or not, it could be your baseball diamond next!

Dingley should talk to the Footscray Baseball Club, because they had the same problem and the council helped them fix their problem. I know that Blackburn are sourcing some help from the council representative that helped Footscray fix their problem.

rounding3rd. Do we have a contact person/address/email to get letters off to? With the support that Dingley and Springvale baseball clubs have provided to the local community with so many troubled kids over the years... I'm going to stop now... This just makes me mad...

I know that Blackburn are sourcing some help from the council representative that helped Footscray fix their problem. The council is the problem, and the developers providing different groups with different comments Springvale has the same problem. They got shut down because someone rang the council and got a hold of the right person. One day later, No games on the main diamond But if we were a soccer club, yeah no problems. New ground and new pavilion and everything supplied in 2 months. We have been arguing with the developers for the LAST 7 YEARS and someone from the council signed off on the Occupancy permit WITHOUT completing all of the requirements of the permit Writing a letter to the council at this late stage wont do jack. ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR 7 YEARS Buddha DINGLEY BASEBALL CLUB SECRETARY and i'm off my ** THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION AND DOESNT REFLECT THE GENERAL CONCENSES and THOUGHTS OF THE CLUB **

signs, we do have the exact same problems at springy.........we don't play there during winter. They shut us down after our summer season had finished, so we didn't have to move any of our games.
We too are working with Dingley and the council to ensure this problem is fixed sooner rather than later.

Buddha, I'd recommend drafting a letter that other clubs can use in support of ding/spring and distribute it to all bv clubs... Word the letter so it can be generic for each club. Simply ask clubs for their support and all they need to do is append their name on the bottom and print it on club letterhead, send it to the correct address for council and the ding/spring representative member of parliament. If the letter is already written then it's very easy for all clubs to act and act quickly.
Have a second letter for all club members to do the same with and get everyone from current seniors, junior families, life members, past members etc.
If it's the same message and easy to support, then I have no doubt that other summer an winter clubs will get behind one of our own.
Make it a numbers game mate, one club yelling very loud makes a lot less noise than 30 clubs and 100 families all saying the same thing.

Also, get in touch with sports and Rec at the city of Stonnington and ask who did Malvern bbc's risk assessment for our overhead netting.
Make sure that ding/spring also do your own risk assessment of the new development and clearly highlight that it is unsafe to have built a house there... Malvern got their net because council built a kids playground directly behind home plate and we proved (common sense really) that it was unsafe.

Buddha, can you confirm that the Mayor has now become involved in seeking a resolution to this matter and that the club may get back on the ground sometime around August or September (if things work out)?

It was just a question based on a comment that I heard made today, pakkyp.
After seven years of certain parties tooling around, yeah, a couple more years would not be unexpected......

Unfortunatley I think this is a serious problem that has already gone to far! If this was an issue 7 years ago, we should have been doing something about it much ealier if authorities have just started talking with the Mayor.......well the "horse has bolted"! Is Dingley going to play any games on their home ground this year? If no games are there then they will not be let back on until something is built and funny enough just 5K's down the road a club got the perfect back-net built while not haveing paid a bill since the 1980's.

Is BV still helping with this or did you come to your senses? What kind of Stupid @rse comment is this ? Are u involved in any of this ? my guess is no All of this has come about because of the work from Dingley / Springvale and the council trying to get a solution in place before the end of the winter season Compromises had to be made on both sides and an equitable solution has been provided, so by the end of july / Aug, both diamonds at Dingley / Springvale will be in use

After asking for input and a letter writing campaign from the forum. Is it to much to ask what was agreed to? I live locally and want to support this sport no matter what colours are worn on the day.
Could you inform the public on this forum please?

what should I do tonight - hmm jump on the forum and see who I can crank up!! congrats mate!! may i suggest you were the only one who made the link to @rse dag their and it shows how much self importance you put in who you are and you ridiculous opinion!
I for one am looking forward to playing the Dingo's this weekend and we will play them anywhere and in an condition!! They are always play hard and well and in great spirit!! I certainly hope that this crap situation gets resolved ASAP as I would hate this sort of thing happening to my club! Dingley have a huge number of players and ppl involved this yr and it must effect all of them in some way or another to not be able to call diamond 1 their home this season.
The amount of support shown by members on this forum clearly shows support for you guys and best of luck their! Cheers Richo see ya sat
Also Buddha - bad rumour mate, I heard a different one!! go jays!!
