another update from us up in the North East! Not sure of the results last week as I got too carried away with watch Fev at Yarrawonga footy on Saturday with the cricket boys. Anyhow enough about that. This week
Bears B vs Rangers B @ Springdale Warriors vs Porepunkah @ Wodonga Rangers A vs Reds @ Wodonga Bears A vs Benalla @ Springdale
Good luck to all playing in the North East this weekend. I am playing my first game for the year for my beloved Rangers! Cheers

A wet weekend looms as the sky looks set to unleash this weekend, good luck with the ground and the cold.
A Grade After 4 rounds we have 1 undefeated team, Research, an a whole host of teams within striking distance of the top four. Another week of big games early in the season as there are a couple of teams that desperately need to get wins to stay in touch.
Croydon vs NB - Croydon at home, they are missing some of the boys from last season and this will likely hurt them as the season goes on, but they have to start favourites here. The hard thing about NB is that they should be winning games, they have a good group of youngsters and are led by one of the best baseball minds going around. I would not want to be playing NB over the next couple of weeks as they are surely close to a win.
Heathmont vs Research - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Heathmont were back on the winners list last week with a good win against Greens. As said last week, if this side gets it together, they will go on a tear and end up in the top 2 - 3 teams in the league. Research are getting the job done, what an embarrassment of riches to have 2 Kyle Bedfords in the side ( ;D). If Research can win this one away from home, they will become the outright fav for the premiership, if I may raise the lid slightly.
Knox vs Greensborough - Expect a ball or two to go out, even in the poor weather. Knox have given up a run a game (yes I know there is a 9 -0 loss there, but that was not the score on the day). I do not expect them to give up too many if Hussy starts, but when will they start to use the other boys more? Greens are in trouble if they lose this one, I would not have thought they would be down the bottom of the ladder after 4 rounds, but that is where they are. Was last season a lucky one? (Rhetorical question).
Melb uni vs Ringwood - Ringwood showed in the first round that they can score lots of runs, but have not scored much since. If they find their swing, I pick them comfortably. They have a couple back this week which should help. Melb need to once again hold a team to a few runs or less. Watch for one of these teams to break out tomorrow.
Watsonia vs GMBC - Funny that I pick the third bottom side against the 2nd side. If Watsonia can win this one, I will start picking them against most other sides. Monty would expect to be where Watsonia is on the ladder, so big game for them. Watch for a much improved performance from the bigger boys from Monty.
B Grade The ladder here is relatively close as well, but after this week we may see gaps start to form.
Bundoora vs Wetgarth - Last year in this game, Bundoora caused an upset, I think that this season Garth will not fall for the same mistakes. Bundoora have won 2 games out of four so far this season which is a massive improvement after winning a total of 6 during the past two seasons. They still have a little way to go, but will finish better this season.
Forest Hill vs Essendon - FH to win comfortably. A few comments over the last few weeks question both Essendon and St Kilda, I might make no comment this week.
Monash vs St Kilda - This one could be a lot closer as St Kilda have more experienced guys. Monash must win this game if they are a top four chance.
Rebels vs La Trobe Uni - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Has to be MOTR, we will see how good Rebels are this week. I think they are another team where the lid may be coming off. What a change, they have given up 5 runs in four games (1 game was a draw with FH). They are legit!! La Trobe are going alright, but their side does not look as good as it has in the past, they are sitting third though.
Ringwood vs Waverley - Ring with a couple of handy players back this week, this could have been MOTR with how close these two have been the last two years. Ring would like to knock off a top side form last season and this is a big chance for them. Waverley need to do the same, if they lose this they are down the bottom end of the ladder. The losing team will need to pull something out over the next few rounds to get back on track.
Good luck

Heard some interesting news today. Both Grant Karlson and Rob Sadler have moved on from their roles with BV.

I believe that Grant Karlsen finishes up as an employee on Monday 21 May.
Don't know about Rob Sadler, who is a tenured BV Board member. His term may expire this year, although that would need to be confirmed by someone who knows for sure.
I'd assume that Rob Sadler could still present himself for re-appointment as BV President if he wished.

Hope we see grant around baseball too good a player not to be involved and will be missed at BV head office. Made some great inroads in his role there pity we could not have seen both him and Justin working together on promoting our sport.

We lost to Waverley 17 - 10. Terrible day by us in the field, 14 unearned runs. The early game we won and I believe that our ones beat Melbourne Uni

Ballarat Brewers inflicted Deakin's first loss in the GBA - a 9-2 result in which Rory Meddick tossed the complete game for 15 strikeouts (and picked up three hits). Lara beat Saints 7-4 after being down by three. Bellarine held a five zip lead over Guild, who responded to a Darc rev-up to get the chocolates 7-5. A huge day for baseball in the harbour city, with Peter Bear Alldis playing game 700 for Saints, and a couple of reasonable ex-players from the region being honoured in a bullpen-naming ceremony at the stadium. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

D2 Rebels 14 Footscray 6. Big star of the day was Daniel Benson going 4 from 5 with a grand slam early to set the tone.
B Res Rebels 1 LaTrobe 10. LaTrobe played well, hitting the ball hard all day and we just couldn't make the plays. At least three times maybe more they turned outs into hits by running down to first hard. Josh Flannery-Kile threw hard all day and the umpires high zone suited him well.
B Grade Rebels 6 LaTrobe 0. Rebels started well with good team batting leading to a run in the first with a hit, stolen base, ground out and sac fly. Masa was in control all day, barely a runner on and few got further than first base.

Thoughts of the Berwick B3 boys are with Jess Thompson, Boneo's shortstop who was carried off with a knee injury today. Fingers crossed it is nothing bad and she is back on the field soon. Berwick won the B3 game and we caught the end of the B1 game where Boneo tied the game in the tenth with a bomb and the next hitter was caught right on the cones. Dandy won by scoring a run in the 11th. Looked a quality game and included a great dummy spit as well.

Heathmont defeated Research 6-5. Good game with some funny umpiring decisions at times.
