What do we have in the way of fact (preferably), rumour and innuendo for this week? While it is not of direct relevance to Victorian club ball, it is great to see Mount Gambier entered for the Senior Winter Championship. This has to be a healthy sign for a series whose demise was being predicted not so long ago. www.baseballvictoria.com.au/?Page=85257

One of the 'Hangar' boys had his brother come down last week to watch the Dodgers play given we were in his backyard down at Pakenham.
Interested in having a game and seeing his local lads slightly short of numbers, said brother has allegedly signed with the Pumas and will be on the diamond this weekend.
Will make for a little bit of a friendly rivalry when the Dodgers and Pumas play each other next time, but regardless, it's good to see another person has taken up the sport.

Indeed they are authentic. "Big, Bad, Bustling" Tim Brown and "Not so silent "Jay Stevens" are both members of the Rebels.
I have heard that a few of the lads have been messaging back and forth in regards setting up a grudge match between the two teams.
Not sure there's a weekend it could happen - curtain raiser to an Aces game, maybe?

Swung the bat ok too for someone who's only played tennis, you should see his cross court forehand.

A few good games this week will show us where some clubs are at. A Grade After 3 rounds we have 5 teams on equal points (3). Research have snuck away to a handy early lead, but results can be deceptive, especially if you lose a game and then get it handed to you in the way of a forfeit. GMBC vs Knox - MATCH OF THE ROUND - straight off the bat with the MOTR this week and what a game it could be. Monty have only given up 6 runs and Knox 2 (in the games they have played). This is a game worthy of a final, two teams with guys throwing well, guys hitting well and both being former power houses of the comp. Knox have the advantage for me with Hussy on the hill and the likes of Tierney (x2), Ayres, Boon, Rice all capable of turning games. Monty's Kent's (X2), Stokes, Booth, Ellis are also more than capable. So where is this game won? Monty are giving up little and Knox give up less, so edge to Knox. Greensborough vs Heathmont - Greens will be desperate to pick this game up at their own park to get back to .500 on the ladder. A loss will start to hurt if they a re 1 - 3. Greens have some depth, Lethborg on the Hill allowing Blewjas to 'rest' at first and just hit bombs, Reeman, Moore, Sullivan can get it done. Heathmont have also got some guys in their line up that can flat out play, but they just don't seem to have put it all together yet. When they do, look out. Melb Uni vs Research - Research are up and going early in the season and will continue with their form this week. Even though Melb. Uni scored 'lots' of runs last week, I think they will fall 5 or 6 short this week North Balwyn vs Watsonia - Hard one to pick here after Watsonia did a good job last week. NB must win this game, I know they are still young, but some of their guys need to step up and this is the perfect week to do it. This game for me is a test of who has the best young talent, NB or Watsonia, both teams with a big point to prove. Ringwood vs Croydon - Ringwood were unconvincing last week, but I am not sure about Croydon. A couple missing from Ringwood by looks this week, Croydon don't update website. I find it hard to go with Croydon, they beat Watsonia, but got done by both Knox and Melb Uni (who outscored them 9 - 1). Big game for both clubs here, prob bigger for Ring though. B Grade A few very good matches this week and on paper 3 of them could go either way. Going to make a big prediction here, so watch for it. Essendon vs Rebels - Sorry, I dropped the North Coburg bit, but there is nothing short in this team. A few pick ups has made them very close to #theteamtobeat Essendon have lots of work to do, kind of like GWS while Rebels are coming!!Do not be surprised to see Rebels maintain a healthy winning streak after this week. Forest Hill vs Waverley - Head says FH, but watch the young Waverley side. A loss for FH would be a tough pill to swallow, coming down, probably expecting to fixture in the finals, 1 - 2 - 1 would not be the start they would want or need. I am predicting 7 teams to fight hard for finals and every win will count. St Kilda vs Bundoora - Tough one to pick here for a couple of reasons. St Kilda are still relatively unknown, they are not scoring many but have played Garth, Waverley and Ringwood who have all been there abouts. Bundoora are improving and going on that, I pick them. Bundoora will be off to their best start since I have been doing these predictions should they win here, which they should. Westgarth vs Ringwood - Couple missing from Ring while Garth are still going well. The game that interests me is when they beat FH comfortably. That shows that they are still hitting very well. Any team that can score 10 runs will likely win their game. Ringwood have not beaten anyone of note yet and may have to wait another week as they look to be missing a few. La Trobe vs Monash Uni - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Battle of the Uni's, Uni Games, call it what you want, but this is a big game. La Trobe are undefeated and Monash have only 1 win. La Trobe win here they start to put a lot of pressure on the rest of the league. Monash won a B Grade title before moving to MWBL and need to start making a push towards the top four. A win here would go a long way to helping the situation. If Monash can 'Hunt' runs in packs they may be able to do what no other team has this season so far and take out the Prize for best B Grade Uni!! A great weekend of ball this week, I await reports to see how games pan out. Well done to Ricey, the ladders and results are put up very quickly, he does a great job. Good luck to the umpires this week, will mention a comment made by one at a later date.

It's week three for NEBA and sees four games this weekend. Bears B vs Warriors @ Porepunkah Rangers A vs Rangers B @ Wangaratta Porepunkah vs Bears A @ Porepunkah Reds vs Benalla @springdale
Good luck to all who continue to play in the North East. I must say if you get a chance to play at Porepunkah (or go there) make sure you go for a beer afterwards at the pub. Nice to see the honor boards up in there too.

Deakin remains undefeated in the GBA with a thumping 9-1 over Saints. Lara cashed in on last innings errors to stitch up Bellarine 12-2 and Guild was less than convincing in its 2-1 result over winless Bacchus Marsh. Lara is looking strong in A and A Reserve, especially with old stagers in Cameron Forbes and Dean Marnell having a run in the twos today. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

I dont like saying this but the Essendon StKilda experiment in B Grade isnt working out so well. Might have been better off leaving it at 8 teams to be honest.

Ringwood beat Croydon yesterday in a low scoring game 2 - 1. Both starters did a great job, Paps for us and Berka for them. I think Berka made two mistakes for the game, 1 Harmo put over the house foul in left and the other went out in a hurry to straight away centre. Meldrum finished off well.

Sadly I have to agree authentic. Whilst Essendon has a "development" team, it might restrict their development if the are to be flogged most weeks. Stkilda are stretched but are giving it a real good shot. Their 3-4 loss to Bundoora after being 0-7 after 7 showed they can be competitive against the lower half, mainly due to their starter pitcher.. Spare a thought for them with no canteen access (hockey club didn't bother to open it) cars getting crunched with foul balls ( not many safe places to park) no female toilets for visitors, an outfield that has a large section requisitioned by the soccer field (synthetic surface for them!) no outfield fence, and don't put one high or in the dirt to your first base man ..a miss is a guaranteed extra base with no side fencing. And if all that isn't enough..try batting looking directly into the sun for most of the game from a uniquely (odd!) directional location of the plate..sunglasses you say..not much use when the clouds move and it goes dark with a pitch on the way. What's the point of this, you might ask..the facilities have either gone backwards or not improved in 20 years or more while surrounding latter arriving sports have been given the red carpet (or synthetic green carpet and fences) Question. Who is responsible? Albert Park Trust,..Baseball Victoria.Local Council,,whoever. P.S. The Stkilda guys are a great bunch on and off the field, so a visit down there has some compensation.

In the Bendigo League today Falcons A Grade made a return to the winners list with a 9-0 win over Scots. Troy Waterman was outstanding over 7 innings with 17 strike outs. Falcons bats came to life this week. Not sure of other results.

Last night Monash beat La Trobe in a close one under lights 5-4. Jack Freeth chalking up 11 strike outs in 6 innings before getting tired. Fantastic game to watch.
Earlier, La Trobe beat Monash in B reserve 9-2 I think the final score was.
A big thank you to all the Monash guys who hung around for the spit roast after the game

Falcons bats came to life this week. Not sure of other results. Falcons indeed returning to the winners list behing a fantastic starting effort by Troy Waterman, however not taking anything away from the efforts of Sean Muldrum, striking out 10 over 6 innings for Scots. In the other A grade game, Dodgers beat Bendigo East 9-4. From what I've been told the Dodgers were led by young Josh Cruze on the mound, with their fielders sucking up every opportunity. Dodgers have now won 3 on the trot and are looking strong. Overall it seems the comp is very even in Bendigo this year, and with some luck we will have a strong squad for the Winter Championships in Geelong next month...

And hit the ball well tonight down at Valhalla, though he noticed that the speed of the Iron Mike's was a bit faster than what he faced on the weekend.
